Hi Richard, Below the ground, where the wood post, the concrete, and the vinyl post are all secured together, there would be no floppiness; you are right, though, that above the ground, the size difference would make the vinyl post floppy. We suggest that you do not deviate from the aluminum insert.

The recommended hole depth for posts is approximately 24 inches.

I had to cut the slots for the fence (3)and gate brackets (2)on mine.

My thought is that you could purchase a 6 X 6 pressure treated post, measure the inside dimension of this vinyl post and then cut it to fit on a table saw. Just a thought... Looking to use this to put a post on the house that I bolt into a triple stud in the garage so that gate swings off this post. Can't put it in the ground as the drain line to collect water from the gutter is 2" off the foundation wall.

You would have to use a superior plastic compatible paint, like Rustoleum, but I would not recommend it.

They actually make a "high wind area" 5x5 vinyl post. Much better than interior wood sleeve usage.

The panels this post works with have always been 8' long. Please install per the instructions, however in general terms you fill your hole with gravel to get to frost depth and then fill with concrete, 1 bag per hole.

So you are saying that this is a totally solid PVC post? The picture shows it is not. If the wall thickness was five inches then the post would be over Ten inches wide????

If installing gate hardware with an aluminum insert, we recommend pre-drilling holes for easier installation. The post insert should not affect the installation process.
