Vermont Organics Raised Bed Recharge is a complete organic fertilization package. We mix OMRI-certified, Organic Coconut byproducts and other OMRI-certified Organic materials to produce this soil. Our lightweight recharge adds the needed organic matter to your raised bed without the need for heavy compost. It contains a six-month, time-released fertilizer that will charge your bed with nutrients from your earliest spring planting through the entire growing season.
  • Organic
  • As one of our earth’s friendliest soils, raised bed recharge helps curb climate change by sequestering more stable carbon in your raised bed than compost- and peat-based products
  • Peat free: The UK has banned the use of peat, which naturally scrapes carbon from the air and moves it into the ground, in a stable form; our peat-free products reduce the mining of peat and leave carbon in the ground, where it belongs
  • Protects watersheds by retaining your nutrients and reducing their presence in runoff
  • 6 month time released organic fertilizer
  • 4-5 times the organic content of traditional compost (most of which is stable for decades)
  • Less than half the weight of traditional compost, due to low moisture, which cuts your shipping cost
  • All natural and made from renewable resources
  • Made in Vermont
  • Works with all garden types
  • A 2.0 cu. ft. bag yields enough material to recharge a 3 ft. x 6 ft. raised garden for one growing season
  • Reinvigorates soil microbes
  • Aerates your soil (roots need oxygen!)
  • More carbon, less water: All our products sequester carbon to curb climate change and help reduce your use of water

can I use this Vermont organics in my basic dirt garden

can I use this Vermont organics in my basic dirt garden
Asked by: BABO
It's a little expensive to use as an amendment to in ground garden soil. If cost is not a concern, it will increase tilth and friability and add some organic nutrients that will foster the health of roots in fruits and vegetables.

When they are older and stronger, try using a small hand cultivator to stir up the soil around them and adding some into the soil.

Is this 2 cu. ft. bag of Vermont Organics Reclamation soil "Raised Bed Recharge" the exact same product as the 50 qt. "Organic Growers Potting Medium? Thank you

No. This is a compost mixture of dairy manure. I emailed the company to make sure the product was "organic" in the sense of no pesticides, etc., and this is what they replied: Our products are 100% OMRI certified organic. Every ingredient is OMRI. We have also changed the base of our mixes from processed composted cow manure to OMRI certified coir. These next generation mixes have a much lower carbon footprint. I guarantee no herbicides or pesticides, heavy metals, etc. ... I was following the Square Foot Gardening recipe for a soil mixture for my raised vegetable beds, and the recipe calls for 1/3 peat, 1/3 vermiculite, and 1/3 mixture of 5 types of compost. In keeping with my desire to grow organically, I used organic worm castings, organic mushroom compost, organic chicken compost, and this product. ( I think I had read that seaweed was included in this compost, so I counted it as two types. However, I am not totally sure about that.) The bottom line is that this is a compost and not a complete growing medium.

I used this as the soil for my tomatoe plants ... is that ok ??? Was I supposed to add something else ??? HELP !!!

This is fine for growing Solanaceae such as Tomato and Peppers. The un-composted manure is too low in P and K to burn young seedlings.
