  • Works for all plant types
Need to transplant Our Growers' Mix Potting Soil is perfect for potting plants. We mix manure solids, coconut byproducts and other organic materials to produce this soil. Great for all varieties of indoor and outdoor potted gardens.
  • Organic
  • As one of our earth’s friendliest soils, organic growers potting media helps curb climate change by sequestering more stable carbon in your garden than compost- and peat-based products
  • Peat free: The UK has banned the use of peat, which naturally scrapes carbon from the air and moves it into the ground, in a stable form; our peat-free products reduce the mining of peat and leave carbon in the ground, where it belongs
  • Protects watersheds by retaining your nutrients and reducing their presence in runoff
  • Made in Vermont
  • Contains 2-4 times the organic content of compost
  • All natural and made from renewable resources
  • Works for all plant types
  • More carbon, less water: All our products sequester carbon to curb climate change and help reduce your use of water

My question is: How does this reduce carbon when coconut products need to be shipped to Vermont? The shipment certainly is not climate or carbon friendly.
Asked by: Salty
The carbon footprint of a container of a coir coming from the Dominican Republic is less than a truckload of peat moss coming down to Vermont from Canada. Furthermore, coconut is an above-grade, renewable carbon, and when it goes down into the soil, we're putting carbon back in the ground. There is only one mechanism that scrubs carbon from our air, and that is our plants. Peat moss does this all by itself and covers 3 to 4 percent of the surface area of the Earth. Peat moss is solving climate change all by itself. We should never disturb it. So by taking the coconut -- which is also harvesting carbon from the air -- we are also solving climate change. Let's leave peat moss alone and use above-grade, renewable carbon.

Does it have any nutrients added as l prefer to add my own ?

Looking for nutrient free growing medium
Asked by: Rob
Looks like coco coir and steer manure. I am also looking for Organic potting soil to add my own amendments to. I will purchase sphagnum peat moss, perlite and worm castings, mix equal parts of each and make my own and add my own amendments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for starting vegetables indoors AND helping my worm farm I added a coffee-can of this material to my fishing worm farm and they really responded. Worms seemed to reproduce rapidly and they are more active than the worm farm I did not add it to. Now both worm farms have it! Also used it by adding 1/4 portion by volume to potting mix for better root growth and rapid growth of vegetable starts for spring. This is great material for slow release of nitrogen and assists in water retention of potting mix.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great soil for starting vegetable plants This is a light soil that allows for germination to occur quickly and seems to be highly nutritious. The one downside is a great deal of mushrooms come out of it and you have to watch for that as they begin to choke off the plants you are intending to grow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality product, fast seed germination I purchased the Vermont Organics potting media because I wanted an organic media for germinating & planting organic seeds in containers. This media looks as though it will not compact like lesser substitutes. Organic tomato seeds germinated in the Vermont Organics in 4 days, outdoors, in peat pots. This item is expensive, but there is comfort in the quality. If you are going to grow organic vegetables, it makes sense to grow them where they will not be contaminated by adulterated unknown and synthetic ingredients in cheaper forms of media.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smells like Smells like being on a farm, which I actually like. Sometimes has too much shredded coconut shell binding up into balls which you have to loosen by hand.
