Q:Is this product really OMRI-listed? I do not see it or "Vermont Organics" on the OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) website's search page.

Answer This Question
A:Â I wouldn't use it as a mulch. Once it's dried out, it can become "dusty" and blow off. There is no weight to this once you've broken it down with water. I would say it's the consistency of sawdust.

A:Â I use coir as a mulch in raised perennial beds and outdoor pots. It works very well.

Beautiful product
Love that there’s no unnecessary packaging, just coco in a box. Instructions say to add so much water to each block and wait an hour before using. Lots of folks say it didn’t break down as expected, but I put my two blocks in a wheel barrow, sprayed with water until I felt like the outside was saturated, then left them sitting in an inch or so of water and went out to run errands for a couple of hours. When I returned both blocks had swollen up and easily broke down in my hands. No trash in it.

So far, so awesome ...
Like other reviewers. I can't say enough about the advantages of receiving this in the mail in a cardboard box rather than having to haul (or have hauled) plastic bags of heavy wet soil full of sticks

No packaging equals no landfill waste!
It is good coco. It worked great unamended for germinating and growing tomatoes peppers lettuce basil and spinach. Just add water. Chose your favorite plant food and start feeding your plants as the product recommends.

Annoyed
The bricks were as I expected they would be. 100% what I expected. The packaging, however, leaves a bit to be desired. I knew it wouldn't come wrapped in plastic which is great! One of the reasons I bought it. I am, however, unimpressed (and so is the UPS driver) with the fact that they used one flimsy piece of tape to hold the bottom of the box shut.

Was 5 star now 1 star
Hard to use as mostly broken up coir and lot of dust which went everywhere. No longer recommend.

great stuff
We placed the block in about an inch of water in a wheelbarrow, Waited a day, and were able to break it down with our hands into this fine powder. The final result feels like a luxurious additive that will do great for our potting soil mixes

Not thrilled with the shipping. It should have been in plastic. The product is fantastic, though. It broke down quickly and beautifully once water was poured on it.

Did I actually get Vermont Organics coir? I don't know because it was an unwrapped block of mystery coir, packed with newspaper. It seems to be working well, but for twenty-five cents more you can get an 11lb block of Viagrow coir that comes with a package. My recommendation - spend that extra quarter!
