Questions & Answers

can u glue this on tile that is already there

Asked by: john
Everything you read says No, but I roughed up my wall tile with sandpaper and glued right over it 2 years ago...it's perfect. Saved so much work and for 200 bucks if I get 5 years instead of whatever...oh well. In fact I am getting second one for basement bathroom since I'm so happy with it. Don't let thin stories scare you or corner concerns...nonsense. If your tub is not square you may have to trim corners a tad...so be patient and don't glue until fit is right. Be sure to use small grove trowel to spread glue so you don't see heavy blobs....I put glue right on tile then placed section. Thin bead of caulk all around after...and transformation is an understatement. I do agree it would be nice if went all the way up wall but finish off with tile edge if it bothers you. Last point, If I had to gut and place over green board I would have tiled...defeats the purpose. Go for it...it comes out great or my mad OCD would have had me rip it out!

I have been told"NO plywood of any kind" Cement board would be best. After that, green board, but cement board is preferred by the pros.

my tub is in a dormer sized bathroom. Can I trim it to fit both widths and heights. I have a screwy shaped bathroom.

Asked by: KStew
Thank you for your question, Kstew! The panels can be trimmed to fit. We do not recommend cutting into the ledges on the back panel. https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/de/dee05490-5094-4276-bff8-ed27c509e2d6.pdf Best regards, Jon Phone: 1-800-355-2721 | Email: consumercare@deltafaucet.com | Facebook/Twitter: @deltafaucet

DELTA FAUCET CO. Vesuvia 32 in. x 60 in. x 58 in. 5-Piece Easy Up Adhesive Tub Wall in White is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tub surround! I wanted a quick solution to improving the look of the very dingy bathroom in the home I just bought and this did the trick! It was more than I wanted to spend after seeing the $50 surrounds, but this fit, was easy to install (as I was told by my handyman who did the tough parts), and looks great! It was also easy to cut for those like myself who have an inconveniently placed window in the shower. It also has ample space for personal care and shower products as there are six shelves on the side and two long ones on the middle section... this extremely important to me as I HATE those ugly shower caddies and metal shelves that hang over the shower head. This alleviates the need for that but doesn't take up space or crowd the shower overall. In short, it has great shelf space, looks expensive, and was easy to cut to size and install!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Bad I've had this up about 8 months now. Wasn't to difficult to put up for female DIYer. Thin but pretty easy to trim. Once up the corner shelves are alot sturdier than you would think. Looks nice. Cleans pretty easily. It does show water spots. And one corner seam doesn't lay completely flat. For the adhesive I used the liquid nails for shower surrounds. It took quite a lot. I think 9 or 10. It adhered well but was diffucult to work with. Very thick and gummy. It was also the regular liquid nail color.... kinda dark khaki. But color hasn't bled through. Overall, not bad.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This product is extremely thin to the extent of being difficult to work with due pieces flopping ... This product is extremely thin to the extent of being difficult to work with due pieces flopping all over the place. Also note that the design of the shelves leaves very little surface are for glue to adhere to in the corners. The edges all the way around the product are unfinished and unless fit very precisely will need some dressing to look finished (I'm using pvc molding to blend mine to the wall). Due to the thinness of the material many of the seams do not lay perfectly flat when assembled (something you can't really see until the item is glued to the wall), looking back I should have used heavy two sided tape to hold things flush inside the corner seams before caulking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Went up easily and looks great! We replaced an old yellowing surround. The old one was glued up to old wallpaper and was starting to come apart. We replaced the wallboard because of mold and glued this up in a couple of hours. Because of the chest high molding in the bathroom, a little bit of trimming was necessary with a utility knife and a good pair of scissors/shears. Also had to cut out for the tub spout.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheap and Flimsy This item is flimsy, we should have gotten something more substantial instead but you can't tell online. It has 4 seams instead of 2 which is not very easy to install or clean later (white caulk looks better than clear by the way). When water hits the shelf you get a cheap hollow plastic sound. It doesn't have any kind of ridge around the edges, it just ends. We had to install pvc molding around it to keep it from looking strange. After taking a long hot shower one of the walls started to ripple a bit (it did go back after cooling off). Spend the money and get something more substantial and check it out at the store before buying.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Let's be real about what this product is and is not. It IS a quick solution to improve an outdate... Let's be real about what this product is and is not. It IS a quick solution to improve an outdated shower or an inexpensive facelift for an apartment. It is NOT a luxurious, custom solution that will stand the test of time. For our project, this did the trick. We had a 1970's tiled shower with broken, lose tiles and missing grout that NEVER felt clean. I could try gluing down the tiles and replacing the grout, or we could hire someone to install brand new tiles for us. However, we also have bigger plans for bathroom in the future, so we didn't want to invest too much money at this time. Enter this product! Not too expensive, not too complicated, and if you have ever installed beadboard/wainscoting you're already qualified for DIYing this. The instructions are clear, but you will need more adhesive than they suggest. Make sure you get all the way to the edge with the adhesive, because we had to pull our panels back a few times for corners that wouldn't stick. Tape the heck out of them to keep them from sliding down too much. You also need to use a special "sealant" which is not just plain ol' caulk. The side panels are thin, but easy to keep steady with two people. I was able to cut holes for the plumbing with ease. The shelves and back panel are thicker. We decided to fill all our shelves with "great stuff" expanding foam, based on another reviewer saying that water hitting the back wall shelf sounded like a drum. That must have done the trick, because there is no real distinct sound for us. Yes, some of the seams do not lay 100% flat -- nothing a little caulk can't fix. When we took the tile down, the walls were in good shape, dry, and mold free, but they did have some bits of old tile adhesive and torn drywall. We put these panels right up over that, with no warping. In our case, our old tile went up about 3 inches higher than this product, so we glued up polystyrene trim to hide the damaged drywall. Also saved us from worrying about a level line with the panels. Then we caulked (sealant-ed) the living heck out of this thing. My only word of caution -- if you don't like caulking you might want to reconsider. Because you will want to caulk the top 3 edges, the bottom 3 edges, and 6 or so vertical seams, so there is a lot of caulking to do. I did even more due to the trim pieces. In the end, for about $200 (including all the extra supplies you need) and 2 days we have a bright white shower that is CLEAN. Honestly, anything is better than what we had, and with that in mind, I welcome the upgrade and the break on my wallet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great for the price This was bought for a rent house my sister was moving into and didn't wanna pay lots of money to fix the bathtub and shower surround. I gotta say it was a home run! Took my bro in law a couple hours and a little work but it looks like a brand new tub/shower! And looks way more expensive than it was!
