mounting hardware?

how should it be attached?
Asked by: michael
Fan should be mounted so ductwork from fan to outside vent is sloped so condensation can drain out. Ductwork should also be insulated.

Location Install

Could I install this in a kitchen/ wash room area without harming the unit?
Asked by: keepinitreal
You can use it to vent in kitchen, it's not to be used for an area where there will be grease fumes. Ductwork should be sloped so any moisture can drain, this is especially important in cold climates.

WHen I ordered this, my original thought was to use it to just help keep dust etc out of the garage. When it arrived, I was in the process of putting a vent hood over my welding table. With a couple of adapters and some PVC piping, I incorporated this fan and my wife couldn't be happier. Previously, when I would weld, the fumes would inevitably drift upstairs even when keeping the door open for venting. Now they all get sucked up and pushed outside where she and the grandkids can't smell them, so once again Papa is a hero in his own house. Now I can spend more time welding like I want to. THANKS. Great product. Very strong. Love the plug in cord. Saved from having to do extra wiring. Seems well built and expect it to last for years.

Using this fan to exhaust cigarette/cigar smoke through a vent outside, which is where the 303 CFM comes in. I plugged it into a variable speed switch that allows me to reduce the CFMs when the full force is not needed. For the amount of air it moves, it is quiet; I thought it was going to be much louder than it turned out to be. Installing it was easy. The plastic housing is sturdy and based on its design, appears it will be simple to clean when it comes time. Everyone is happy with the end result: fresh air, minimal noise. Note: mine did not have an on/off/low/high switch.

The included attached cord makes easy installation to simply plug in, or in my case I wired in to a timer switch. I have a large double garage with a furnace, and an adjacent garage I use as storage and work area without heat. I installed this exhaust fan in the wall between the two garages near the ceiling, and it pulls the heat from the heated garage into the shop on a moments notice. I also adapted it for an option to vent air outside when working with saws, to keep dust out of the air. They have designed it to make it easy to clean, which I really appreciate. For the power of this fan, it is very quiet, and also draws just 65 watts. This is a wonderful vent fan when you need to move a great amount of air in a hurry.

I had rebuilt my garage after a fire, and when I did I put in the biggest ceiling mounted exhaust fan I could find, It works great only problem was the amount of noise it generated. I came across this fan.. I took the old one out from between the beams and was able to mount this one in the same spot between the 2 x 12 floor joists above ,. All I needed was a 6 inch to 4 inch adapter to connect it to the exhaust duct and I was also able to connect it hardwired to the existing switch. It moves just as much air, and removes all the smoke, airborne sawdust and fumes from painting and refinishing and any other odd smells,,,, and it does it so quietly you have to remember to turn it off or it will suck all the heat out. I think I'm going to put it on a timer switch so I know it shuts off by itself . Its solid and well made, I have the same version of this in a four inch and its been running for three years without a problem.and the cost was less than half of what the old one cost. A worthwhile investment especially if you want to remove the stink and do it quietly,....

I have a wood stove, and the room it is in can easily get over 100 degrees. So, I installed a Thru-Wall fan to disperse the heat to the next room. It helped, but to get heat to farther rooms, I got this, and with some 6" Duct, it works real well. It is twice as loud, but moves nearly twice the amount of air. It is like standing in front of a giant hair dryer. When I plug it in, I can feel the heat in the room drop, and the farther room heats up quickly. The reason for only 3 Stars ... the fan I got, is not the one pictured. The one pictured, has a 3 way power switch (On/Off, High & Low). Mine has none (see pic). Not like I needed the High & Low, but I did want On/Off. With out it, I am having to unplug it, until I install a Smart Outlet. Also, the Description of, "Ceiling or Wall Inline Bathroom Exhaust Fan", is crazy. 303CFM for a bathroom, is one huge bathroom, or one seriously stinky occupant (LOL). This is cleary not designed for bathrooms. Also, the directions are 2 pages of warnings. Twelve bullet points on Installation, but not one on how to mount it?!?! They supply mounting screws, but no access to the holes. Having no directions, I took the entire thing apart to get to the holes. Keyhole mounts, with a template, would be much simpler. The 2 pages refer to an "enclosed connection diagram", but none was included. It states, "make sure the specifications found on the specifications plate ... meet your needs". The plate shows it having 2 speeds (see pic). It states, "If you have any questions ... contact Viagrow", but there is no contact information? If you do not need variable speeds, an On/Off switch, useful directions or contact information, and white noise is a benefit (for me it drowns out street noise) ... get it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from + more powerful than expected + promises to be durable chassis + overkill-gauge power cord +/- in... + more powerful than expected + promises to be durable chassis + overkill-gauge power cord +/- in chronological order, may not/may have a power switch As of this writing, Viagrow says they still have older-stock switchless fans, but already have new fans with two-speed switches. As of this writing, the picture of the switched fan should come down until the old stock is gone. I see zero point in waiting for the switched fan -- if you buy this, you're buying it for the 303 cfm. I'm new to these, but had researched them in anticipation of buying a hooded grow lamp reflector -- it seemed the 4" would be a likely bad gamble, I wasn't sure about necking down a 6" to cheaper 4" hooding and a possible air filter cylinder; ultimately since I have roof air in my grow-travel-trailer I figured running 600w lamps bare under reflectors probably would wind up getting cool from various high power air movement sources. I received this 6" along with viagrow's 4" and a casablanca fan for review, so now I have a palpable feel for what they can and can't do. This would be overkill for a bathroom fan; I'm a huge fan of overkill, and the 4" promises to mimic a contractor grade traditional unit, which don't move cigarette smoke. I have no doubt I could cool a 1000 high intensity lamp, possibly -- possibly -- two 600w in connected ducted hoods. Right now I'm running my 6" vertically among plants to pull co2 up off the floor (turns out a human produces the same amount over 24 hours as a tank rig, and if you work out by your plants you give them 24 hours' worth -- but they have to be fed and all lights have to be on, but, who doesn't love working out hot and humid and blind?) I need my pm body temps in the 40s, and I'm very tempted to not bother mis-installing the ceiling fan and using the 6" instead. Surprisingly, at 105 cfm, viagrow's 4" is relatively useless for any of my ambient and horticultural needs, so if like me you're reading up on the relative differences: I'd get a 6" over a 4" without question, regardless of down-the-line expense increases. That said, every "manufacturer's" version of these plastic inlines have reviewers write they suddenly died, which seems like a matter of luck, how durable the specific unit off the line you wind up with, so I'd also get the extended warranty. I got one each for two refrigerators I've bought from Home Depot, never had to use them, and otherwise in hundreds of purchases a year rarely see the point -- from every set of reviews I've read on every retailer's site, I'd strongly-er recommend getting one for this fan, it's expensive enough that it's not disposable. One step up from this -- without having played with an 8" nor 10" inline -- would be a mini-carpet blower, but you have to be careful with those -- lasky's run the gamut in cfm in the same and nearly -identical chassis, and manufacture some for exclusive sale at various stores, so you need to know the cfm, sometimes hard to find. I wish I'd gotten 20 or 30 of these for review, because this is the type of thing if I bought one, I'd buy 19 or 29 more, they're extremely versatile, I'm using the 4" to (barely, if at all) cool my quasi-open motherboard (the 6" would freeze it) and if they cost $1 I'd get four to cool my digital and magnetic ballasts. But, I'm currently cooling those with ~$20-$30 vornado 4" fans which we all know will die in about 3 years, and at those prices you don't tend to buy an extended warranty, which weren't available to me. If you're growing medicinal herbs, you've got the money to buy 100 of these without blinking, as you should, right now. I will at some point drill a 6" hole in my wall and buy a 6" inline to pull hot air out of my trailer, and then the floodgates open and I'll wind up with more fans than "fruiting" plants and trees, which give me $zero return on investment. I've not seen a 6" cylindrical air filter up close, but I'd not consider a 4" package, and I'd expect a 6" to just adequately perform. If you plan to put one together, just an inline on top of a cylinder, I'd go 8" to be safe. And the 6" does create some noise, to which I'm fairly immune from all my fans, but I'd put it in a likely complaint category if using residentially in an otherwise silent environment. But then again, I suspect all these inlines are identical regardless of "manufacturer" label. And bathroom fans are meant to be loud, that's a selling point. ***FAN SPEED CONTROLLERS ***MIGHT*** KILL THESE OVER TIME*** My understanding is they reduce the AC frequency in a square wave, which means slamming the motor on and off however many times a second. I have variacs (expensive) on my carpet blowers, one for four years on a 8 year old blower I use at least 12hr/day; I can't say the variac increased its longevity over a $15 speed controller, and with enough online shopping I probably could have replaced the carpet blower for the cost of a variac, but I suspect at least some of these inline and centrifugal fan failures have to do with the use of speed controllers.
