Step 1: Release the Arm Bar - Remove the staple and move it so the arm hangs over the back of the trap
Step 2: Bait the Trap - Apply a high-protein bait, such as peanut butter or hazelnut spread, to the metal bait pedal. Use a Q-tip, toothpick or other tool to avoid transferring your scent
Step 3: Hold Securely - Pull the kill bar back and hold it in place with your thumb.
Step 4: Set the Trap - Swing the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the bent end of the arm bar into the pedal's notch. Slowly release pressure from the kill bar until the arm bar holds the kill bar securely

Does not work

I have set the trap three times and each time the rat gets the food, sets off the trap but does not get caught. Waste of money.

false advertising

bait and switch .sad am disabled. shows 1 item 4 items or 12 items all rat traps. the 4 pk are mouse traps.. Just want 6 4pks for the price paid for the mouse traps.

Effective if use with ingenuity!!

I needed to watch a YouTube video to learn how to set it up. For the first 3 nights, I didn’t catch any but the peanut butter are eaten!!! Then I saw my son with a dental floss and an idea came up. I tied a tiny piece of meat that I barbecued that day to the dental floss and attached to the metal bait pedal. 2 hours later, 2 rats were caught and another at dawn. Very effective!!! I used the same bait. I don’t think rats really mind the scent of your fingers/hands!!! Picture attached for reference.

Great product however

Great product but on the second try, the mouse only got the peanut butter and didnt trigger. However, I caught one but still recommended the plastic one.

The Victor mousetraps do not work. I placed peanut...

The Victor mousetraps do not work. I placed peanut butter on the metal pedal. The mouse ate the peanut butter twice, but the bar failed to trigger. Then I bought a Tomcat trap that has a plastic pedal, and it worked like a charm. HomeDepot should no longer sell the Victor mousetraps.

We are sorry to hear about this experience! If you test the trap (carefully!) with a pencil or something similar, does it trip properly? If it does, try baiting the trap using only a small amount of peanut butter (just what fits on the end of a toothpick). By using a smaller amount, the mice are less likely to be able to quickly grab the bait and run without setting off the trap. We also recommend placing the trap with the baited end flush against a wall for best results.

Old reliable works every time!

I've been catching mice for 60 years and these have always been the best for that brand of snap action traps. Made in Pennsylvania! Well done Victor!

Great at catching fingers

These are great if your only goal is to get your fingers mashed. I hate using glue traps as I think they are cruel but these traps are so awful I have no choice. The catch bar is too short. It barely reaches the paddle and if you put so much as a smear of peanut butter on it the bar won't hold the paddle. I have been using traps for 30 years and these are the worst I've ever seen. I was able to get 1 or of 4 traps to hold. I threw the other 3 away. Don't waste your money unless you enjoy being frustrated.

The device doesn’t work that well. The mice eat the peanut butter and don’t get trapped. I stuff it into the little tubular area where the bait goes, not on top. And they still eat it without getting trapped.
