  • Step 1: Release the Arm Bar - Remove the staple and move it so the arm hangs over the back of the trap
  • Step 2: Bait the Trap - Apply a high-protein bait, such as peanut butter or hazelnut spread, to the metal bait pedal. Use a Q-tip, toothpick or other tool to avoid transferring your scent
  • Step 3: Hold Securely - Pull the kill bar back and hold it in place with your thumb.
  • Step 4: Set the Trap - Swing the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the bent end of the arm bar into the pedal's notch. Slowly release pressure from the kill bar until the arm bar holds the kill bar securely

Q:What is the EPA registration number?

A:  Yes the EPA number is only to track hazardous waste and there is no hazardous waste with this product until you, the consumer, catch a rat or mouse in this wooden trap as you also provide the bait. No EPA number needed. I just Googled it. Lol you're welcome.

    A:  I believe the EPA number is for plastic materials but I'm not sure. Either way there is no plastic and no bait so I don't think an EPA number applies to this product. This is a wooden old fashioned mouse trap, not a bait station.

              A:  I doubt it. I think the squirrels are too big for this trap. I use it for chipmunks, which dig up my patio.

                A:  I’ve caught rats and smaller mice with this trap. Hot glue a Cheerios to the bait pedal and smear with peanut butter. Also glue the trap onto a piece of cardboard. The rat won’t get far if the trap malfunctions or the rat isn’t caught completely.

                      A:  It's easy. The smaller one for mice is about the size of a half used bar of soap and the bigger one for rats is about the size of a large cell phone.

                          Didn't work but their plastic one did work.
                          Ate peanut butter without triggering. Their plastic one did work though (pic attached).

                            Keeps on working
                            It took two months to trap this rat. And even after the trap was triggered, it kept on moving for a couple of hour before giving up. Got rid of the rat and set it up with the same bait.

                              Works every time!!
                              9 out of 8 times it worked!! Caught two with one trap!! Keep it simple. Put a minut amount of peanut butter and oil closer to the trigger.

                                Sort of Works
                                The rat feasted on grass seed and peanut butter then proceeded to take a dump on top of the trigger mechanism and it never went off. See photo.

                                Thank you for sharing this experience. When baiting these traps, we recommend a small, pea sized amount of peanut butter.                                     Kills then instantly
                                    Purchased 12 traps and was using peanut butter without much success, traps were licked clean or full of ants. I may also have chipmunks that are too small to set traps off. After a couple of weeks of trial and error I found the best thing for me was Steak. I sliced a piece of steak I used ribeye( I know what a waste of a good Steak but I hate Rats) 1/4" thick and in 3/4' pieces. Use a screwdriver to bent the prong up at a 45 degree angle and push it onto the barb then push prong down with your thunb to lock it in place so they have to tug on it to get the steak, Wear rubber gloves when doing it, I found the best time to put them out is just before sundown I think they are more nocturnal. I have rats burrowing under my shed and I put traps about 8" from holes. I put out 5 traps yesterday and caught 3. The other two traps wer sprung but no kill, they may have tried to eat the bait from the wrong side and got launched. Dont get discouraged just keep trying and experiment to see what works best for you, I just ordered 10 more of these. Best thing is price I ge tthem for $1.97 each, dont even try to re-use it, just throw it away rat and all. Good luck hunting!!!!!!!

                                      Great, great, great product Victor Metal Pedal Rat Trap
                                      One morning we discovered pieces of veggies, taken from small garbage can, on the mat near the sink. Next morning we discovered small chicken bones, taken from garbage can, in the family room. We put glue traps with cheese and peanut better, left lights on and computer on, making video. Creature didn't stick to the glue traps unfortunately, though ate some food. Probably creature is stronger than glue traps designed for. Pictures from the video attached. We bought set of 2 Victor Metal Pedal Rat Traps from Home Depot. At first we put traps unset as recommended, but with with food. We left lights and computer on to make video, but creature did not come this night. Next night we set Victor Metal Pedal Rat Traps and left them with no lights nor computer. Result was great. We will put trap again to be sure creature was alone. Thank you to the Victor Metal Pedal Rat Traps and Home Depot.
