Didn't ask for mulch
This is more like mulch than soil. I guess it would be ok for mixing it into the hard clay that we have here. I haven't had any problems with weeds yet, as some of the other posters said. Other than that, just buy a bag of mulch, it's cheaper.

Great soil - easy to lay - provides all necessary nutrients for growth
Bag was very easy to handle and soil covers about 30 square feet. Rich in nutrients and a definite help for garden growth

Vigoro potting soil
Repotted three small houseplants with Vigoro potting soil and my entire downstairs was INFESTED WITH HUNDREDS OF GNATS from it!!! What a disgusting mess. Took the plants outside and sprayed them. Hope they survive as one was an heirloom Christmas cactus and two nice “mother in law tongues “ that will be expensive or irreplaceable.

I am so upset i brought 5 bags big bags of soil for my garden when I stated empting then I started to find all kinds of plastic sticks and other GARBAGE in the bag. I think they go to the dump to get soil. Very dissappointing

      is it from landfill ?
This soil contains polyethylene and other plastic debris.

We hate to hear that you found plastic debris in your Vigoro Organic Garden Soil. The soil does not come from a landfill. It is made of processed forest products, peat, rice hulls and/or compost, sphagnum peat moss, coir and organic fertilizer that is derived from poultry litter. Every effort is made to screen out debris during processing.
We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers and we would like to gather information about your purchase. At your earliest convenience, please call 877-220-3089 for assistance. When calling, please refer to this review.

Not as expected, but not bad for the price.
As others have mentioned, I found that the consistency was more like extra shredded mulch rather than what I would normally consider as garden soil. It also did have a slight smell to it. I purchased 10 bags and all of them were consistent. That being said, I did not find this product that bad at all for the price. I bought it in-store and it was noticeably lighter in weight compared to other soils. As a "garden soil", it is meant to be mixed in with the native soil or top-soil. Since I was working with heavy clay, it seemed to work out pretty well. I'll have to see how it turns out, but the shredded woody material should breakdown in a season or two, adding organic material and attracting worms. At my local store, it was almost half the price per cubic feet of other garden soils. I also used this in my raised beds mixed in with a heavy/cheap topsoil, and I'm liking the overall end result so far. I would not recommend using this by itself though. I also did not find any pebbles or sticks that I often find in other bagged soils. Also I'm seeing now online there is a warranty? Seriously not too bad.

      Terrible - Worst Product, Ever
Purchased this for my vegetable garden of tomatoes and basil, and basil pots. The basil has virtually died and tomatoes look awful. What has sprouted are mushrooms or mushroom like stuff. Not sure what is in this mixture, but it has been a total waste of time, effort and money, not only for purchasing the products, but now that it has essentially killed the vegetable plants that I purchased.

Probably organic, if you remove all nails and plastic debris
The worst organic soil I ever used. 2 bags of soil (out of 5) which I opened contain pieces of hard plastic, packing material, pieces of shingles and even 2 nails . I can not use such soil for growing vegetables that I give to my children.

Good soil. Worked well for indoor potted plants. Less expensive than brand names.
Good soil. Worked well for indoor potted plants. Less expensive than brand names. Seems to be the lowest cost option at HD and meets basic requirements for being organic dirt.

          Questionable quality
I question the quality of this soil. Upon opening the bag we found a plastic cigarette holder inside. I have never seen this before in purchased soil.

            Too much branches/woodchips in it
The soil had too much branches/woodchips. I would still prefer MiracleGro.

            Good and Bad
The other reviews are absolutely correct, the bag was at least half sticks/mulch (if not more than half). The good part is that my raised veggie garden is actually thriving, so it cant be all that bad. Not sure that I would buy it again. Really on the fence on this one. I was shocked at the amount of non-dirt in the bag, even after reading the reviews before hand, but my garden seems to be liking it just fine.

            BIG NO NO
This "organic soil" is just horrible. lots of debris which are not from vegetal world and I had so many little flies from this soil , it was ridiculous. I grow tomatoes in pot every year in Chicago. First time that used the "organic" thinking of a good deal and oh my! Never Again. Not only I did not grow tomatoes but the flies were so abundant I actually got another soil to replace.

                garbage
My plants are seriously stunted. Did not know it was not to be used in pots but if its just organic soil why couldnt you? That sounds a bit silly to me. But either way I would not recommend this soil to anyone.

This is supposed to be ORGANIC soil!
Do you think organic potting soil should have giant pieces of plastic? I pulled out a 3 inch piece of plastic and tons of other smaller pieces of plastic bag. This also barely qualifies as potting soil as it contains rocks and inorganic materials. Look elsewhere. I will never buy this again.

                  Great Garden Soil
The texture and quality of this Organic soil is amazing. The soil is clean and does not contain what I call trash or fillers of sorts.

                      Like a bag of mulch
I was buying organic garden "soil" for a raised bed, but was surprised to find a product that was like mulch. Reading the "fine print" on the back it does say there is bark mulch in this product. and it is an amendment for your garden soil. The name of the product is misleading. I thought it was too good of a deal, and it was! Disappointing, after emptying 9 bags! Might work great a mulch.

                      Plastic scraps
I bought one bag which I'm using in containers anyways even though it states not to. I used a cup to separate the "organic" soil into the containers so I was up close and personal to the soil. I found at least 10 pieces of plastic inside. Some pieces were soft and looked like they were from recycled bags (clear and colored). Some pieces were hard and even had other product logos still visibly printed onto them. Having plastic in the soil does not seem to organic. I also bought a bag of Miracle Grow "organic" soil from Home Depot and I had the same issue with finding at least 10 pieces of hard and soft plastic within the soil.

                        Will not buy again
This soil is more like mulch, it contains large pieces of wood and bark. My plants growing in this are seriously stunted compared to those same plants growing in containers in a different soil mix. I bought 10 bags and I am very disappointed. I wish I could find the Customer Service information for this company.

                        Won't buy this again
I will not be buying this soil again. My garden was weed free until I added some of this soil in. I spent more time weeding the garden than I ever should have. I helped my neighbor start gardening as well with the square foot gardening set up that I had used previously and she bought the same soil and had weeds as well. One should not get free weeds with soil that is being added to their garden!

This stuff is terrible! I have had to spend hours plucking the grass in my garden. This soil is full of grass, pieces of glass, miscellaneous plastic items. I found a toy plastic gun today. I also found some corn kernels buried. I will never buy this brand again.
