Pine straw good for my blue berries & strawberries

    Answer This Question

It's excellent for them. Strawberries thrive in slightly acidic soil. Pine needles slowly break down over the season and naturally the soil pH right around the roots, keeping your berries incredibly happy. It's even better for your blueberries.

Pine straw is not acidic when it decomposes into the ground. No need to add lime.

Although there were some pine sticks and cones in the pine straw, they were easy to pull out and use the rest. The pine straw went a long way and made a nice blanket for my zinnias. I used the rest of the bag in another flower bed. I will purchase again.

I would have rated a 5- the long needle quality was great but 3 of the 6 packages had a lot of pine wood stems. Not really a negative- I just put them under the pine straw. It gives a nice casual look around my bungalow style home.

This pine straw from Vigoro is far superior to any other straw I have purchased. It’s quite clean compared to other straw, which is huge. There are pine cones and bark mixed in but it’s usually a small amount and near the bottom. I tried another brand and stopped after one roll and went back to buy this.

            Careful when buying this pinestraw
I purchased three bags/bales of this the other day. I noticed 2 bales/bags were heavier than the 3rd. I brought them home...the lighter bag had great pinestraw in it, covered and spread well, great color. The 2 heavier bags were awful. I guess moisture got in it, the bags are kept outside in the heat and the straw was crumbling and dark (I could not tell this from looking at the outside of the bag). By the time I realized it my helpers had already spread it. So, money lost. If you are going to buy this, go for the light weight bags...stay away from the heavier bags

              Not worth the money.
I bought this because they were out of regular and slash bales. I DO NOT recommend this product. They claim clean and “X” amount of sq ft. This was not my experience with it. Yes it was “easy to transport” but that’s where it ends. The claim of clean is far from true. There were lots of debris, dirt clumps, and lots log unusable shaky debris at the bottom of each bag. Additionally the coverage was no where near what they claimed. For $12+ this is a total ripoff. I used 3 bags and returned the rest. Not remotely worth the cost.

This used to be good but this year it’s full of trash

                  Great Product
I spread 15 bags and it looks outstanding. I only had 2 pine cones and a couple sticks in all the bags. The complaints about pine cones seem a bit silly, this product is collected from pine tree forest floors, not manufactured in a plant. The price is great also, I used to pay $14 a bale and I had to travel an hour to buy it. These bags are much more than a bale, although it may not be exactly equal to 2 bales. It is still a great value. I’m thrilled that I can now buy pine straw at Home Depot!

This product is very unique. It's very clean to transport from my car to my house. They pack a ton of pine straw in the bag, equivalent to 2 regular bales you buy unbagged. It also has a rich reddish color that lasts throughout the summer. I highly recommend it.

Started using this brand for the first time this year. I used similar products in the past. Vigoro is super easy to transport and I like the compressed bales. Easy to spread and looks good for extended prriods of time.
