How do you connect one section to the next without topsoil and mulch collapsing the ends. The spikes are 3 logs in on .

How bad is the rot if I push these into the ground to cover the black backing?

Does this edging have to be sealed before instaling

No. Its cedar. As long as you don't bury them into the dirt they last quite a long time. When placing in the ground just make sure it meets it, not buried. My first set I had for 3 years (would have last longer but I made the mistake of putting too far down into the ground). The bottoms rotted. My new set bottoms sit right on top of the ground and do not shift. But if you wanted to seal it sure wouldn't hurt.
