Put this down before mulching over it on brand new landscaping and a week after laying it down there's weeds growing through it all over like it's helping them. So disappointed.

Maybe use 2 layers?
About two weeks after laying this and mulching over it, the grass type weed I was having so much trouble with started growing through the barrier with ease. Maybe two layers would work, but this stuff is do expensive.

See picture of all the weeds
I have to fully weed the area every three months that has the landscaping fabric. Weeds grow right through it!

Sometimes referred to as "weed cloth" - in this case, the name is quite appropriate!
Vigoro (an HD brand, it appears) makes a lot of great stuff. In fact, I have a couple of other varieties of landscape fabric from them that so far works great. This stuff, on the other hand, is terrible. I'm actually a little surprised at how well its rating trends, but I can also only speak from experience - and the pictures speak for themselves.
A couple of months after laying this stuff out, grass started growing through it. I eventually went back to HD and, with some reticence (recognizing I had already used some of it), asked if I could return it, or if anything could be done. The guy at returns directed me to gardening, as gardening had to "make the call." I played along, but the gardening guy too was like, "Why did he send you back here?" He then said to contact the company (which appears to be HD), that he could offer $10 off another roll, and that when you lay this stuff out, you're supposed to remove all the old organic material from the dirt over which you lay it. Externally, I was smiling; internally, I was thinking, "The very reason I bought this stuff was so I wouldn't have to pick out every grass seed that might potentially sprout through it!"
Hopefully, this is helpful. Again, based on the reviews, it appears my experience is an anomaly. I hope so, but nearly $50 is a lot to spend (not to mention the time and energy landscaping) to find out it all has to be redone. I rarely review anything, but I'd like to save you the trouble if at all possible.

Double Layer for 24" width works well; single layer is not very good. A year ago, I put this under some 3/4" crushed rock around my house. The rock is in a 2-foot wide strip all the way around my house. For the first 60 feet or so I folded it in half (with a helper) and put it down. Near the end I realized I needed more than 200 feet so I started cutting it in half. It worked pretty well where I folded it in half and used a double layer. The dobuled part has some grassy weeds here and there, but they are growing in dust, etc. on top of the fabric so they are easy to pull. However, the area with a single layer has about 4X as many weeds and the roots go down right through the fabric into the dirt underneath! It is kind of hard to see in my photos. I should have photographed a weed on the double layer part so you can see the difference. All of these weeds probably started on top of the fabric, but the roots go right through a single layer so they are hard to pull, and I'm sure I am leaving a lot of root in the ground under the fabric which might resprout and find its way up through the small hole. This is a good value for this length of fabric, but plan on using a double thickness!

Since our vegetable garden last year was run over by weeds and grass very quickly, we decided to put weed block down over the whole garden, and dig individual holes for the seeds and plants. We'll see how this works as we've just put it down... I've only used in flower beds before, but never a large vegetable garden.

Weeds grow right through it.
I’ve used landscape fabric for years, and picked this up last season. I liked how affordable and soft it was. Unfortunately, weeds are growing right through it!! I installed in the fall and spring is FULL of weeds. The kind you want to buy is the kind that looks like hairs are criss crossed all over it and is sort of stiff in nature, NOT this one!! I have the good kind still going strong in my front yard. Weeds grow ON TOP of that kind because evidently, dirt will land in your mulch and the weeds will grow - however it’s EASY to pluck those as they aren’t ROOTED in the ground. This one allows them to ROOT in the ground!!Complete waste of money. I have to start all over with this one.

Was very easy to work with. Trimmed easily and will certainly stop the undergrowth. I had decided to clean out the 15 year old rocks, clean them, change the weed block and it was fine. Tomorrow the rocks and replace them.
