Is the fabric actually 2mm thick as specified, and is the thickness consistent?

Asked by: GardenGal
I would say it's 2mm, but hard to measure really - it is consistent in its thickness.

4 ft. x 200 ft. Weed Barrier Landscape Fabric with PowerGrid, Heavy Duty is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 112.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I’m not accustomed to working with weed barrier landscape fabric.... I’m not accustomed to working with weed barrier landscape fabric. However, while my initial impression was that it was quite thin, I found it to be surprising strong and tear-resistant. A utility knife was needed to cut the material and, so far, I’m impressed.

I have been using landscape weed barrier fabric for years, and it has only gotten better. Some say it does not work, just use mulch. Yes, mulch does help prevent weeds and retain moisture, however with a little more planning and you use a good quality product, say the Virgo polyethylene fabric , and you "properly" install it, it will allow the free flow of water, air and nutrients to the soil below. Hint: There is a top and bottom, turn the shiny side up for the best water flow. Also use good quality stacks or landscape staples. Depending on your type of soil 4" staples may suffice but I found using longer spikes on the perimeter gives a better hold. I have only started re-doing beds that have mulch only, now that the rainy season is over here in Florida. This product is very easy to work with. When you look at the benefits it is not really expensive either, a 100 square foot area cost's about $7.00 for the fabric. Do it right the first time so you don't waste time and money doing over.

Easy to cut. Instructions stated to use the shiny side up. Could not tell which side was shiny. Inside part of roll looked a bit more shiny so put it up. Water would not penetrate the fabric and pooled for a few hours before I gave up watching. I tried the other side with a glass of water and had same results. Maybe I bought a bad batch of fabric. I have no use for it now and bought it back in January. Too long ago to get my money back on a return.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is too soon to tell how well it works,... It is too soon to tell how well it works, but I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to use. I rolled it out in 4' x 12' area--no problem, used spikes I bought to go with it to tack it down, and then spread cheap mulch on top since I am not planting anything there right now. The only hole I had to cut was for a sprinkler head I am not currently using and that was easy.
