Q:I want to use this for face masks. Does the metal contain lead?

Answer This Question
A: When we ran the required Prop 65 testing for the State of California, this item did not test to their standards for lead content. It did test positive for DEHP.
by|Sep 24, 2020
A: There is no California prop 65 warning on the packaging so I would believe there is no lead content. I have been using this wire for face masks for the last eight months and it works well. The only way to know for sure if there is any lead content is to contact Vigoro directly.

Q:Can I use this wire to make Ivy topiary? Want to make sure it’s sturdy enough. And did it passed CA proposition?

Answer This Question
A: This wire is great for wiring clamshell style frames closed or bridging gaps in larger topiary frames. But it's not strong enough on its own to support the weight of a plant unless it is a small, very simple shape topiary. I don't know if it meets CA environmental restrictions.

A: The wire requires this Prop 65 warning: [Yellow or White Triangle with] Symbol WARNING: Cancer and Reproductive Harm - www.P65Warnings.ca.gov
Proposition 65 requires warning labels on products that may contain any of 800-plus chemicals or ingredients that the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) lists as a carcinogen or a reproductive toxicant. Proposition 65 is a “right to know” law. It does not prohibit the use of any chemicals in products. In fact, many of the chemicals listed under Proposition 65 are common everyday additives in manufacturing processes ( e.g., Ethylene Glycol-which is used in compressor shrouds as a flame retardant, lead-which is used to machine brass parts, etc.) and can be found in common consumer products such as jewelry, lamps, ceramic tableware, lead crystal glasses, electric cords, automobiles, and beauty products.
California revised the labeling requirements required for products manufactured after August 30 2018. Midwest Air Technologies complies with these rules. As a result, you may see different warnings on our products, based on the manufacturing date.
For example, on a product manufactured before August 30, 2018, you may see this warning
“This product contains chemicals known in the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or reproductive harm”
Whereas on the same product, manufactured after August 30, 2018, you might see this warning
“WARNING: CONTAINS LEAD. May be harmful if eaten or chewed. May generate dust containing lead. Wash hands after use. Keep out of reach of children.”
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including lead, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
Likely, the product has not changed in its composition, and the new warning was updated to comply with the new California rules.
MAT Industries sells products to all 50 states, and has taken the position to place these warnings within our owner’s manual, or on the actual product or packaging, whether or not it ends up in California.

Q:will this work for small trees

Answer This Question
A: Yes. this would work for staking out small trees. Since it is not as soft as some other solutions, be careful that the wire does not cut into the tree and damage it.

Almost 10 ft shorter than 50ft!!!!!
I bought this to run between support posts for my raspberry plants to lean on. The wire is great for this and works well but I was very frustrated when I bought 4 packs expecting to be able to run 8 lengths of wire for my 20ft garden beds and for all but 1 package did I have enough to do 2 20ft lengths. To be fair I needed maybe a foot extra for each length but that still left me with almost 8 to 10 ft short in each package! I had to buy 2 more to finish my project.

I ended up purchasing 5 packages of this wire to complete my project when I should have only needed 4 packages. I was using it to create a "fence" around my raised garden beds to keep the dog from jumping in the beds. I cut it in 16'6" sections so that each piece would run along a long and a short side of my 4' x 12' beds. Of the first 4 packages I purchased, 3 packages were less than 50' and I couldn't get 3 sections of 16'6" from those packages which required me to purchase an additional package. So while the product is fine, if you need a full 50' amount buy an extra package!

This pack provides plenty of coated wire handy for supporting fruits, vegetables, or ornamentals. For example, I used it to encircle tomato plants, add support to peach tree branches, tie up arbor vitae to grow straight and tight. I also used it to connect two trellis together into one piece for a grape vine. This wire lasts multiple seasons, the coating stays on well year to year.

This is a very versatile coated wire for gardening. The product is solid enough to support some lively branches and, once bent, can keep its shape, which opens up lots of creative possibilities. Although it is sturdy, I had no issues cutting it with a regular pruner. Overall, this is a good product, much more solid wire than the "plastic twist with cutter" from Vigoro as well (which works well for light duties.) Anyhow, this is solid product for the discerned gardener.

When you need sturdy, attractive wire around the garden…
This wire is stiff enough that it will maintain any shape you form it into. The green plastic sheathing makes the wire less conspicuous and reduces the possibility of damaging your plants.
I’ve used this wire with bamboo poles to make cages to contain my cactus vines. It also easily bends into hooks that I use to hang cork slabs for mounting tillandsias and orchids.
Even though this is sturdy wire, it’s still thin enough to easily be cut with standard garden shears.
