Answer This Question

Hi Linda, thank you for your question. The weight of a 2 cu. ft. Premium Black Wood Shredded Bagged Mulch bag can vary depending on moisture content, but it typically weighs approximately 20–30 lbs. per bag. Bags that have been exposed to rain or higher humidity may weigh more. We hope this helps with planning your project and transportation needs!

Will this bark work with potted house plants

    Answer This Question

Hi Connie, thank you for your question. **Premium Red Wood Shredded Mulch is not recommended as a potting medium for houseplants.** It is designed primarily for outdoor landscape use. However, it can be used as a thin decorative mulch layer on top of the soil in larger indoor containers to help retain moisture and improve appearance. For planting or repotting houseplants, we recommend using a quality potting mix specifically formulated for container-grown plants. We hope this helps!

how do you calculate cubic yards
          ByJul 9, 2026
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

Ronaldo, to calculate cubic yards, multiply the length × width × depth (in feet) to get the volume in cubic feet, then divide by 27 (since 1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet). Formula: Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Depth (ft) ÷ 27 = Cubic Yards For mulch, if you're using 2 cu. ft. bags, divide the total cubic feet needed by 2 to determine the number of bags required. Example: A bed that is 10 ft. × 10 ft. with a 3-inch (0.25 ft.) mulch depth: 10 × 10 × 0.25 = 25 cu. ft. 25 ÷ 27 = 0.93 cu. yd. 25 ÷ 2 = about 13 bags of 2 cu. ft. mulch.

Can your Vigaro mulch produce artillery mold?
              ByJul 1, 2026
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Arthur, like any wood-based mulch, this product can support naturally occurring fungi, including artillery fungus, under certain environmental conditions. Artillery fungus is typically associated with prolonged moisture, shade, and decomposing wood materials. Proper mulch maintenance, avoiding excessive moisture, and periodic refreshing of the mulch layer can help reduce the likelihood of fungal growth.

Worst product. It lost all color after the first rain. Home Depot did give us our money back the pictures show the difference between the Scott’s brand on the left and the vigaro product on the right after a rain

Response from Oldcastle Product SupportAug 5, 2026
Thank you for your comment. We apologize you have experienced color fading when you recently laid your mulch. The main cause of this is due to the colorant not getting enough sun/heat to set . Our mulches are dyed with a food grade, clay based dye so it is as environmentally safe as possible. After dying, it is bagged and may not have not fully cured. We advise to watch the weather to avoid laying it before rain as well as the packing recommendation of not watering for a minimum of 24 hours. In cases of color fade, usually a topcoat of 5-10% of the mulch used is what we use to bring the vibrancy back into your mulched area. -AM Oldcastle-Hipp

I picked up 4 bags of red mulch from Home Depot to top off our raised garden beds, and the results speak for themselves! Coverage: The 4 bags were just the right amount to provide a nice, thick layer across our metal raised planters, giving them a clean, professional finish. Color: The deep red color contrast looks fantastic against the green foliage and flowers—it instantly made the whole garden setup pop. Functionality: It's doing a great job keeping soil moisture locked in and suppressing weeds around our vegetables, herbs, and flowering plants. Overall, great quality mulch at a reasonable price. Would definitely buy again!

I read that this mulch lasts twice as long as pinestraw, so have it a try in our natural areas where pinestraw had broken down. Very pleased with ease of spreading and with looks! Photo shows old pinestraw on left and new mulch on right.

I've been using Vigoro mulch for years. It is hands down the best. It holds it color better than others and the bag contains mulch without a lot of the junk that other mulches contain.

I have purchased 20 bags of Vigorous 2 cu. ft red mulch. I don’t see any difference between this and other brands that are a little more expensive. I believe there’s some kind of difference between mulches, but I am very pleased with my purchase. For the money, I will get more.
