How do the dampers work?

How do the dampers work?
Asked by: wayne
I want to revise my scathing question/statement. I stayed home today and had not had a fire in the Ponderosa all weekend so it was good and out. I cleaned out the ash and then started checking the primary damper and discovered it is working fine. Its a little sloppy in its fit, but it slides open and closed like its suppose to. I found my problem, and have to admit it was no fault of this stove. I had installed a damper in the pipe above the stove (even though the manual says you dont need to) and had it in so that its flapper was not lined up with the handle in any way. So it was closed when we thought it was open etc. I removed it from the stove pipe and today the stove seems to be functioning quite well, I even over fired it a bit and now smoke exits up the chimney even when you open door to load it. So I think the problem was all mine and its functioning well. I owe them an apology as of now, it seems to be working well.

How tall is the opening where you put the wood in?

Some wood stoves I have seen have a very short opening, around 9 inches which in my opinion is way too short even if the length is long enough. Just bought a new house and I want to replace the pellet stove. Our last wood stove worked great and I had no problem loading big pieces of wood.

does this stove need a demper in stove pipe

does this stove need a demper in stove pipe
Asked by: hillbillie
No, a pipe damper isn't needed with this stove. The controls in the front just under the door work great.
