Questions & Answers

Is this a "pinless" scroll saw?

Asked by: Margie
Don't buy this saw to use pinless blades. It takes 3 hands and an act of God to change blades. I wish I never bought it.

Can I rotate the blade sideways?

I am trying to use this saw to cut floor laminate to a smaller width. With the blade parallel to the axis of the saw, my laminates will hit back of the saw. If I can rotate the blade perpendicular I can cut with no problem.
Asked by: JohnJohn
Sure can. Read the product description. I think it's like the 2nd or 3rd sentence.

I have never used a scroll saw. If I want to cut the center out of a circle, is it easy to remove the blade, position the circle with a hole cut in it, and then reinstall the blade?
Asked by: Jerry
Yep, takes about 1 min. Just drill your starting hole (smaller hole in circle) then loosen and remove the saw blade so it goes through the hole you just drilled. Reattach the blade and cut your larger circle. Then just detach your your blade again to remove the wood. Fast process. This is a decent saw for the money. I use it all the time. The trick is to order “great” saw blades. Cheap saw plus good blades equal happy craftsman. I use Olson blades, they are great.

This can use any blade from any manufacturer models.

I just had the chance to use the WEN Scroll Saw and I'll say I was pleased. I'm new to scroll saws, so my rating might be of little value, but I found this saw easy to set up, easy to understand the basic usage and very functional. It does vibrate a bit more than I expected, which makes detail cutting difficult but when clamped to a bench it smooths out and cuts easily. I'm using the provided blade cutting through 3/4" pine and didn't experience any issues. Using PVC tubing, and a heat gun, I was able to rig up a dust collection system which kept the work area clear and the project visible. The only negative I experienced was with the air blower tube. It won't stay on the fitting. It never popped off while I was cutting but when I'd take a break and come back to the saw the tubing was off. I can't attest to the long term durability yet but for a DIY guy that has an occasional need for a scroll saw this fills that need.

We bought this as we wanted an inexpensive scroll saw for cutting the occasional shape for our carved wood sign hobby. We already had a WEN spindle sander and were very pleased with that. The scroll saw is easy to figure out in terns of changing blades, adjusting blade tension and leveling the table. I cut out a small wooden coyote and it turned out well considering I've never used a scroll saw before in my life. The blade didn't break which was a relief. We had a extra vacuum hose that fit on the sawdust port and attached to our Rigid shop vacuum and other than the noise the 2 machines running at once made it worked very good. I gave it 4 stars because the hose to blow off the sawdust from your work is worthless and the light doesn't want to stay put. Not a huge deal for me but I think if you put an accessory item on a machine it should work. Time will tell as far as the durability. It looks nice and works great so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a bad saw for the price! This saw is almost exactly the same as several other brands out there, Ryobi, Skill, Craftsman to name a few. This one however comes with a light, and a few $$ cheaper. The light is a great detail. I only wish it had a separate on/off switch. Its very hard to change the blade in the dark! It does lack the tool less blade change that the Ryobi has. I suspect that one could order the blade change bolt from Ryobi and swap it in if one was so inclined. The instructions say it will accept pinned and pinless blades, and even comes with a pinless blade, however for the life of me I cannot get one to stay in. I tried to the point of frustration and switched it over to a pinned blade so I could finish my project. All in all it seems to be a great little saw at a great price.

Have an old Craftsman and hasnt been used in 10 years or more nd i got the bug to make some WhirlyGigs and this lil saw works great for cutting the wooden parts . first attempt at using pin less thru a work piece was a comedy but I soon got the hang of it. I drilled a screw hole in the back end casting for a temperary hold down at chair level in a workshop . so far I love it and the price was right.

Upon getting the saw, it was quite easy to set up, and pretty self explanatory to use. With both a medium and small thickness blade that ships with it and a set of allen keys for the pin-less blade, I was pretty happy. The speed adjuster gives a wide range of speeds to choose from, replacing a blade is super easy, and it comes with a side compartment to hold all the spare parts which is really convenient. The adjustable guide holds things down pretty good, the LED light work really well with just a little shaking as expected, and after moving the air stem over just a little bit (many reviews say it's useless) I've never had sawdust build up on any piece and it works amazingly. I'm using this saw to cut pine 1x2's and it goes through them like butter. All in all I am very happy with this saw and it definitely gets 5 stars. Most scroll saws are the exact same with a different name on the sticker so if you're considering getting one then certainly get the WEN.
