what are these gauge blocks used for?
Asked by: james
I use mine to measure exact one-inch intervals from 1 through 6 inches between a fixed object (e.g. a saw blade) and a movable object (e.g. the saw's rip fence or the stop block on a saw sled).

Asked by: mac
Five holes each tapped on the 2x3 sides. The holes in the four 1x sides are not tapped. I don't know why or why not.

These have 3/8-16 theaded holes in them, they are 1, 2 and 3 inches in size and yet the description say they are metric. I am confused. I need them to ne inch.
Asked by: gruntersdad
They are inch sizes with 3/8-16 UNC threads. Maybe you could call them 25.4mm X 50.8mm X 76.2mm and say they are metric.

I know these aren't to be used in actual construction, but at the price they are much cheaper than other alternatives. I assume this can withstand decent stresses? Oddly they work perfectly as a riser block to mount a truck bed camper. Together, will the weight of the people, 4 would be used to anchor 150lbs dynamic weight, and 500 lbs static. Would these work? Seems stout.
Asked by: Aton
Seems to me that these would make excellent shims or spacers. It is really hard steel and the three dimensions are within a thousandth of an inch because they are made to provide precise measurement. For the loads you mention there is no likelihood these would shear, bulge, compress or break.
