Can it be used indoors?

Obsoletely no! If you have a question like this it might be advisable to get some help with any generator purchases.

Will it support my 12000 btu window a/c and refrigerator and a tv or lamp?

Asked by Barb August 24, 2020

Answer

Oh, my goodness, no. And don't by anything by WEN. Mine had the carb float get stuck open, and the thing leaked gas all over the place. Fire hazard in a big way. For that much stuff, A/C, Fridge, and tv... you're going to need in the 6-8k watt range. I've got a 2500 watt right now, and it barely handles my 10K BTU AC. The problem is how much extra wattage the unit needs when it's first starting up. A/C units USUALLY have 2 wattage ratings, start-up, and constant. (effectively). Pay attention to those, and it's the start-up wattage you have to worry about.

Will this run my camper A.C. Unit and refrigerator

Asked by SteveO July 24, 2020

Answer

Ohmigawsh... no. Barely handled a 5000BTU A/C, that is... before it started leaking gas all over the place. There's a pressure relief valve that gets caught open (not an uncommon occurrence, based on the response of the WEN customer service guy) and opens a valve that lets all the gas in the tank start dripping out of the generator. And in simple terms of "wattage", you're gonna need one of the 4000w or more. A/Cs pull a managable amount when they're actually "running", but they pull 2-3 times the amount when they're starting up. THAT is the number you need to worry about. My little 5k A/C would run at about 600 watts, but was pulling a measured 1350 for the moment when it was starting up, and that would shut down the generator.

Great generator to have on hand for hurricane season! Living in a rural area is great until hurricane season hits, because we're often the last to have electricity restored. Every year we've thought about a generator, and this year we picked up this small one. Being a mature person, having a generator that was light enough for me to move was priority. I can handle the Wen 56155 by myself and place it at a safe distance from the house. Start up is relatively easy and for a generator it's really pretty quiet. We plan to use the generator if needed to keep power to our refrigerator, run a portable AC unit, and keep our small electronics charged. While we hope not to need it for emergency use, we're glad to have it on hand. It's also small enough that we can bring it to picnics or camping to power electrical items on the go. Why did we wait so long?!

Was perfect for my travel trailer, fit inside the doorway for transporting, no gasoline smell and worked great. Even used it around the house to do tree trimming to run my electric trimmers and saw.

The WEN 4-Stroke 98 cc 1550-Watt Portable Gas-Powered Generator, CARB Compliant arrived via Fed Ex in a few days. It was boxed with 2 straps making it easy to carry in the house. One reason I picked this Generator because I live in an area where the weather causes prolonged power outages and needed a smaller reasonably light Generator to run my Refrigerator and Furnace. My son is an Electrician and can make me up a plug in from the Generator to the Electric panel on the house. Another reason for picking this Generator is I also do some camping and this Generator is the perfect size for me to get around with, it’s about 60 pounds. A small dolly will suffice for me. I unpacked the Generator and noticed that it needed oil which I didn’t have. I got out the instructions and found it takes 13 ounces of 30W oil and 1.1 gallons of gas. After a run to get the oil and gas, I put both in per the instructions and started it right up. The gas gauge located on the top of the Fuel tank makes it very convenient to keep track of gas usage and the instructions say it has 7.5 hours of half-load run time. It has 2 AC 120-Volt 3 prong outlets and a Cigarette lighter plug in, 12 volt. The Generator came with a spark plug wrench and a Phillips screwdriver so you can empty the carburetor for temporary storage for a few months. It also has an automatic low oil shutdown to keep it from running out of oil. Which is very handy. I’m not always efficient on checking things like that. The 4-stroke 98 cc engine provides 1550 surge watts and 1350 running watts the perfect for running my Furnace and Refrigerator in a power outage. As for camping I can run an air compressor to fill up an air mattress or a small heater if needed for a chilly night. It has a 2 year warranty from WEN and a very helpful Customer Service department. WEN has been around since 1951. I highly recommend the WEN 4-Stroke 98 cc 1550-Watt Portable Gas-Powered Generator, CARB Compliant. www.wenproducts.com

Great little generator, no bells and whistles, no electric start, no 240 volt outlet, no oil ( it takes 13 ounces of oil ) but it comes with a spark plug wrench and a small phillips screwdriver to empty the carburetor bowl screw if you have gas in it and want to store for any extended time ( a few months at the most ) This generator has 2 - 120 volt outlets and a cigarette-lighter-style 12-Volt 8.3A DC outlet. It has a running wattage of 1350 watts and surges at 1550 watts. I got this because my main concern is when we lose power, I just needed a small generator like this to power up my furnace and refrigerator when the power goes out, It's not that heavy, weighs about 60 pounds w/o the 1 gallon of gas that the tank holds. Nice feature is it has a fuel gauge right on the top of the fuel tank that is easy to read and lets you know when you get low on gasoline. Just some information that 1350 watt ( running wattage ) will only give you 11.5 amps at 120 volts. The reason there is no 240 volt outlets is because it doesn't put out enough wattage to run anything you have in your home that is 240 volt. It's a nice small generator to use while camping and hunting also. Think of it this way, it wont run you toaster and coffee maker at the same time, but I didn't get it for that. The reason I wanted this was mainly to run my furnace and fridge since we lose power a few times a year in the winter and a few in the summer, I got tired of throwing out food when the power was out for 12 -16 hours. Since it's light enough to move around I like it. I would highly recommend this compact generator to run the basic things in your home that are needed for when the power goes out. Well made and the only problem I have is the loud muffler. Never use indoors. Most of the basic information is on this page under "description or details".

Junk
Should come with warning - will be next to impossible to start in cold weather. After 6 hours of effort finally got started - the best I could do is power 60 watt heating pad to keep baby birds warm. The next day power was out would not power the pads - in fact would not light a led lite (!4 watt)
