Product Overview

Remember when you had 13,000 lbs. of log-cracking pressure all in the palm of your hands. Quickly transform logs into firewood with the WEN 6.5-Ton Electric Log-Splitter with Stand. This unit features a powerful 15 Amp 2.5 HP motor to make easy work of logs up to 10 in. in diameter and 20.5 in. in length. Install the included stand to elevate the cradle 34 in. off of the floor or assemble the wheels directly to the body of the log splitter for a low-profile design that sits directly on the ground. Forget the hassles and expenses that come with gasoline-powered alternatives. An electric log splitter means you will never have to worry about cold starts or clogged carburetors again. With a 20-second cycle time, a 14.75 in. cylinder stroke, a 16 sq. in. push plate and a 5 in. wedge, you'll be able to take on even the hardest of woods. Two-handed operation maximizes user safety while the fume-free design eliminates carbon monoxide and other toxic emissions. Easily transport your splitter from the shed to the forest with the onboard pull handle and the 2 never-flat 5.5 in. wheels. And, because it's a WEN product, your log splitter comes backed by a 2-year warranty, a nationwide network of skilled service technicians and a friendly customer help line. Slick machine. Very sturdy also.
Great product. I set mine up high so I did not have to be bending over. That also has disadvantages if your logs are larger. This also easily split larger pieces than it stated. Very quiet and easy to use.

Great splitter for the price!
Great splitter for the price. It was pretty easy to set up and operate. And it made quick work out of some pretty big oak logs. The tool is kind of heavy though, so you may need a second person to set up and/or move it very far.

EXCELLENT splitter. I should have purchased this 2 years ago when I first started using the fire pit. Splits the wood like knife through butter. I split almost all of my fire wood in 45 mins. It would have taken me 6-8 hours to split the same amount by the old ax & sledge hammer which is what I had been using previously. It splits much larger pieces than what the indicated size limit. I highly recommend the splitter.

Works great. I have used it to split 18 to 20 inch long oak up to 23" diameter with it. The tree was cut down about 4 months ago and sat though the summer waiting to be split up. I have only used the splitter for one day so far but it works really well and it makes splitting logs very easy compared with the axe and wedge method that I have always used previously. After only one day I can't imagine going back to that - this thing splits an unbelievable amount of wood with the only effort being loading the logs onto it. The large diameter pieces I am splitting I can't even lift so have to roll them up onto the splitter - not too difficult since, without the included extension legs, the top sits only about a foot off the ground. So now instead of putting off the chore of splitting the wood I am looking forward to going out and using the splitter some more. Everyone I know who has a log splitter has a gas powered one so I wasn't sure if I should try an electric splitter or gas but since it was so much less expensive for this unit compared with a gas one I decided to give it a try. I am not disappointed in any way, in fact, I am very glad I went the electric route with this piece of equipment. Just plug it in and it works, with no gas, no oil, no starting issues, no noise and no exhaust to worry about. With no exhaust or gas fumes to worry about you can even use it inside a building like a shed or garage. It came ready to use right out of the box - I only had to put the 2 wheels on and a lift handle at the other end so I can pull it around. I plugged it into a 15 amp circuit of my storage shed and it was sufficient for operation. It takes up surprisingly little room and I am happy about that also because I don't have a lot of extra storage space in my shed or garage. I think for smaller pieces of wood the higher position when the extension legs are installed might be more convenient so I may put them on after I split all the pieces too heavy for me to lift. It comes with hydraulic oil already in it so you don't have to buy any to start using it. The power cord is about six feet long. It says in the manual you can use up to a 50 foot extension cord if its 12 gauge but no longer than that. The unit weighs a lot so I can not lift it off the ground myself but so far have not had to. I even put the wheels on without lifting it while it was still sitting on its foam packing. I just tilted the cardboard box sideways a bit and cut the tape along the bottom seam, opened the bottom box flaps while it was tilted and then lifted the box off the unit. Some other reviews I read mentioned they did not like the two handed operation of the power button and engagement lever in unison and even wanting to defeat that function but I am happy they chose to set up the operation this way. It saves me from a potential serious accident by ensuring I can not haphazardly put a hand on the log trying to hold it or something and wind up getting it mangled in some way. Let's face it - human bone and flesh do not stand up to hydraulics and steel or even splintered hardwood. Even the large diameter pieces of wood sit stable on the splitter without any hand holding from me. If you split a piece of wood with large knots in it the pieces will sometimes pop apart pretty violently so that is also reason to keep you hands away from the wood while its being split. I ordered mine online and had it shipped to my house and it came via Fedex so that was very convenient for me. It didn't have to be signed for. The Wen 6.5 ton splitter seems like a very capable and good quality unit so far so I am very happy with my purchase of this piece of equipment from Home Depot.

I was surprised as to how well it really splits wood. I split up some White Mulberry, which is a very wet stringy wood. It did it with no problems. And it will definitely handle a log much bigger the 10 inch diameter.

I'd buy it again! I don't normally write reviews unless something is really terrible or really stands out. This litte log splitter is really amazing. It took about 30 minutes to put together on the stand and check the hydraulic fluid level. After that, I was off and splitting my wood pile. I split about a cord of oak (a mixture of live oak, post oak, and pear) with virtually no issues. This splitter is rated for up to 10" diameter logs and it had no issues. The only logs it would not split were ones where the ends were not square cut (as expected). I hope it holds up but I experienced absolutely no issues with it and wish I had invested on one years ago.

I bought this splitter a few weeks ago in preparation for felling an extremely large red oak tree on my property. Here's what you need to know. First, it works well and does everything it's supposed to do, and sometimes a little more. Some cuts on wet wood result in stringy splits which have to be separated by hand. It doesn't like knots so some pieces needed to be turned over or turned around to find a spot it liked. Some pieces would get wedged on tight so I suggest picking up a small 4 lb sledgehammer to knock them loose. Lastly, there's a bleeder valve that must be opened for operation and closed for storage. The plastic screw for that valve is shaped like an "S" and is located between the orange handle and the wedge, where the split logs exit. I made the mistake of leaving the screw in a vertical position and an exiting log broke off one half of that "S". Lesson 1: Position the loosened screw in a horizontal position when in use. I also learned that the customer service folks at WEN were very nice (they only laughed at me a little bit) and they mailed me a new screw. I'm very pleased with this splitter and very happy with my purchase.
