          A:  This item appears to me to be made of some type of clear (no knots) pine. The grain is finer than yellow pine so it could possibly be white pine. Poplar is another probability.

          I did not use this item for the intended purpose. I needed a piece of wood in a cylindrical shape...
          I did not use this item for the intended purpose. I needed a piece of wood in a cylindrical shape to repair a vintage artificial Christmas tree. I removed the metal bolt, cut the block roughly in half lengthwise, and drilled 6 holes at an angle around the circumference. I also drilled out the center to a diameter of 3/4". After painting the block a dark brown, it worked perfectly! Very pleased with this item.

            Had to unscrew the threaded part to have enough thread to connect to chair securely. Not a real issue. Very soft wood. Took a star off because severe glue joint prevented stain from absorbing. Cheap but functional.
