Wagner’s Gourmet 5 lb. Waste Free Wild Bird Food is a big hit with the big birds! We’ve been filling our feeder with Wagner’s regular wild bird food, and were curious how they would like the “Gourmet Waste Free” variety, Model # 82056. This blend has significantly larger pieces than the tiny seeds in the regular blend, and this seems to have attracted larger birds. Where we previously had chickadees, finches, and other small birds, we now have crows and other large birds, which seem to intimidate the smaller ones. So it probably depends on the types of birds you want to attract. But either way, Wagner’s is a hit with the birds. True to its name there were no empty shells or hulls on the ground after the birds were done, so it’s a lot less messy. It costs a bit more, but then you’re getting more “real food” and throwing away less waste. Note: We received this item free from Home Depot’s “Seeds” program. Home Depot only asked that we provide an honest review.

This gourmet seed so far seems to be accepted by the birds that routinely visit my feeder, (cardinals, sparrows, finches, doves), but not yet as well as black sunflower. It remains to be seen if it is truly "waste free" as it seems to get picked over and the prime choices taken. After a full week in the feeder there is still a lot remaining. I have purposely not added additional food as yet, to see if it all will be eaten. I expect a fair test as I have no squirrels to contend with.

Gourmet mixture of nuts and cracked corn, along with other ingredients, but without seeds for the birds to make a mess. In just one day, attracted our neighborhood cardinal and many sparrows. Unfortunately, it was also very popular with squirrels. At one point, there were two on the feeder at once. While it will do the job of attracting listed birds, you'll need to keep it out of the reach of squirrels.

This bird food is a really nice mix of high quality ingredients, whereas most other products contain garbage seed as fillers. The birds apparently don't like it, as they scoop it off the feeder onto the ground. This food however, the birds just simply. Any food scraped onto the ground is quickly scooped up. The contents of this bag contain nothing but high quality seed. Well worth the price, and highly recommended.

Sadly the birds in our region along with the squirrels will not eat the corn and there is a good deal of corn in these bags. They love everything else. The feeder is attached to my office window so I get to watch them feed from the smallest Chickadee to the Mourning Doves.
