Questions & Answers

How do u know how much water and salt should be in the tank

Water boss 900
Asked by: Tbucket
You add 2 gallons at installation and always keep your salt above the water level, you shouldn't need to add any water after the initial install. Simply start up instructions on the manual or online.

Can this unit be installed outside where cold weather is not a problem ( South Florida )
Asked by: Bob
As long as it doesn't freeze and is protected from sun and rain, I don't see any reason why not. I certainly wouldn't install it outside in a totally unprotected area, but if it's in a garage, shed, or similar location, it should be OK... Be advised that there is a door on top where you add the salt, and children or vandals could dump foreign materials in there and contaminate the system, so that's something to consider too...

does the water boss 900 have a bypass valve so I can water flower and vegetable plants

Asked by: porg
Yes. There is a knob on top of the valve. There is an arrow on top of this knob. If the arrow on the knob is turned so that it is pointing at the word 'service' this means that water is flowing through the water softener. If the arrow is pointing at the word 'bypass', water simply does a U-turn inside of the valve and does NOT pass through the Waterboss. A few people suggested flushing the water through the water lines as it will already be softened. This is true. However, the volume of water stored inside of your internal plumbing is very small and would only take a few minutes to flush. In other words, this is not a problem.

This system was installed in my home, by a licensed plumber, less than two years ago. System's control panel stopped allowing water resetting, not long after installation. Recently I noticed that the system would not stop recirculating water and had to be placed in the bypass mode. After contacting the manufacturer, they sent me a replacement recirculating valve. The new one was installed and leaks heavily. The manufacturer has offered no correction, for this issue, besides to pay for another plumber to come to my home. This unit is not worth the nearly $500 price tag. I will never buy a Waterboss product again and certainly would not recommend it.

Do not heed the reviews of owners who have not owned the unit long term--I loved it for a couple of months also. As an owner for the last three years, I have had constant issues with this unit. Every 3 to 6 months the softener gets "stuck" and sits there emitting a beeping sound until the owner or tech performs a partial disassembly to reset the unit. Beyond that, I have needed replacement parts at least three times for more complicated issues that have recurred. I will complement the company on its willingness to send replacement parts promptly, but once the warranty is expired--the same old problems will recur and the part costs for those issues are exorbitant.

Upon installation, the resin (or some small black material) filled the water lines throughout my house (after first manual regeneration) and clogged ever toilet, faucet, shower, washer, and water heater. It was a nightmare. Here is a video that best depicts the troubles it caused. https://photos.app.goo.gl/vpt90cI9ldRXQEvl1

I had a water boss unit that worked perfectly for 18 years, so when it quit I bought this unit. I have had nothing but trouble with it and I just found out today that the 3 year warranty means they will ship you parts for 3 years but if the parts don't fix the problem, you have to hire a plumber to come work on it and pay his bill yourself. I have spent hours replacing parts already and they are now shipping me more parts. I have had untreated water more than I have had soft water. I am going to try to get Home Depot to take this one back so I can buy a different brand. I would stay away unless you like working on someone else's stuff.

Not even 3 years old and it has stopped working. Called their Customer Service to have the person on the end of the line be rude and telling me that water changes so my water must have changed their product wasn't bad. I explained to her that I had a water test done and the iron or ph had not changed since when the system was installed. She then told me I had to regenerate for 2 weeks I told her I had already gone through the entire troubleshooting in the guide and still was not working properly. I was then told well we won't replace the entire unit and it sounds like it's still working. What part of everything is turning orange on a daily basis does this person not understand. My last softener lasted 15 years before going bad. Now less than 3 years I am going to have to spend money to have this system removed and a new one put in because they won't honor their 3 year 100% replacement as stated in the warranty and the owners manual. If there was a zero star rating this is exactly what this product and company would receive.
