Questions & Answers

How do u know how much water and salt should be in the tank

Water boss 900
Asked by: Tbucket
You add 2 gallons at installation and always keep your salt above the water level, you shouldn't need to add any water after the initial install. Simply start up instructions on the manual or online.

does the water boss 900 have a bypass valve so I can water flower and vegetable plants

Asked by: porg
Yes there is a bypass valve actuated by a knob on the top of the valve body (take the lid off) But, I plumbed in a bypass valve when it was installed (easy to do). This is useful when you need to fill or top-up a pool (soft water eats your plaster or concrete) or removing the unit to work on it or replace it. It will not run forever. Also, l why would you want to bypass when watering plants? I built a tiny 3x3x5 shed outside for the Waterboss and irrigation valve complex where the water enters the house so all taps are softened. Wash the car-no water spots and let it air dry. The emitters on the drip irrigation system don't crud up with scale. Plants get 99.99999% of their minerals from the soil. They are not fertilized by rain water. If you are concerned with chlorine, use a carbon pre-filter or upgrade to Waterboss 950. If you also soften outdoor water your salt use increases from 2 bags/yr to 2 1/2 bags per year, big deal.

What is the width of the unit?

Check stats with Home Depot on inline. Should have the width, height and all the other data or go to local Home Depot store and check stats there.

I had a water boss unit that worked perfectly for 18 years, so when it quit I bought this unit. I have had nothing but trouble with it and I just found out today that the 3 year warranty means they will ship you parts for 3 years but if the parts don't fix the problem, you have to hire a plumber to come work on it and pay his bill yourself. I have spent hours replacing parts already and they are now shipping me more parts. I have had untreated water more than I have had soft water. I am going to try to get Home Depot to take this one back so I can buy a different brand. I would stay away unless you like working on someone else's stuff.

This is after a 50% credit on my usage from my local utility company ....The Manufacturer does not stand behind their machine...you are wasting your money...buy something else or rent from a real company...DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!If they had a zero rati8ng I would rate it a zero instead of one star

What happens is the piston slide gets stuck and sends salt water through your house plumbing fouling my reverse osmosis system and refrigerator filter requiring replacement. I rebuilt the unit and it worked for 1.5 years. Now the same parts have failed again now the new piston won't slide freely in the body because it's out of round inside. Don't buy this unit!

I've owned the WaterBoss softener for about 17 months. Within the first 8 months I had an "E1" Code. I had to search the internet to find a video on how to fix it. Then, just this past week, another "E1" code. This time however, the valve stayed open and water spewed out of the drain hose for up to 6 hours before I finally noticed my basement completely flooded. I had to quickly switch it to "bypass" to shut it off. The E1 code wouldn't fix itself so I notified the company, again. They simply sent back and email that they were sending me a part. I emailed them back about the part, when would I get it, how do I install it, etc, etc and they didn't respond back. 3 days now and still no part. I will probably take this softener out and see if I can return it to the store. But I'm currently in the market for a new/different softener.

This system was installed in my home, by a licensed plumber, less than two years ago. System's control panel stopped allowing water resetting, not long after installation. Recently I noticed that the system would not stop recirculating water and had to be placed in the bypass mode. After contacting the manufacturer, they sent me a replacement recirculating valve. The new one was installed and leaks heavily. The manufacturer has offered no correction, for this issue, besides to pay for another plumber to come to my home. This unit is not worth the nearly $500 price tag. I will never buy a Waterboss product again and certainly would not recommend it.

Upon installation, the resin (or some small black material) filled the water lines throughout my house (after first manual regeneration) and clogged ever toilet, faucet, shower, washer, and water heater. It was a nightmare. Here is a video that best depicts the troubles it caused. https://photos.app.goo.gl/vpt90cI9ldRXQEvl1

The old unit was about 15 years old and parts were no longer available. The installation was pretty simple to complete although it was not an exact match up. I had to return to the the hardware store and purchase a couple of reducers and PVC pipe to complete the hookup. The DVD was helpful. We have had it now for a few weeks and it's been running fine. I'm not a plumber and thought it was going to be more of a challenge to install. I was quite happy to see that it really wasn't that difficult to put in.

I replaced a 14 year old Water Boss that required a proprietary part that was about 1/4 the cost of a new unit after having replaced another part that had not fixed the problem, decided to buy new. The new unit works as well as the old using a fraction of the salt and the old one didn't use an excessive amount. it took a couple of calls to customer service before I was convinced it was working as it should. reading reviews from other units as well as this one it appeared that no one makes a perfect one. I went for price which was half or less that most others. it doesn't take up much space and I installed to existing lines. This is a short term review, about 2 months with no problems.
