i'm looking into purchasing this product, my question is how will this work with my tankless water heater? my water line goes to my tankless
Asked by: Connie
I put it right on the main line on my side of the water meter so that all of the water that comes into the house and goes to the appliances is filtered. I expect it should make the water heater and other appliances last longer due to the reduction in scale.

I have 1/2" pipes. Planning to use all Sharkbites connectors with PEX. The issue I am encountering is how to bring that 1" FPT into a 1/2". I could not find anything in my local HomeDepot that handles 1" female thread into 1/2". There was one that is 1" female threaded into 3/4" straight to PEX. I saw a post that used a galvanized threaded from 1" into 1/2". Does someone know if that piece exists in PVC? I try to stay away from Galvanized due to rust in the long run. Any suggestion?

Thanks for your response. The incoming main is 3/4" but right after my meter is 1/2" for the entire house. I am planning to install this right beside the water heater because that is the only room I have to install the unit. I will be missing a bathroom in the basement and the outside faucet for gardening which is not that much of concern. From the point where I will be connecting the filter unit will cover the main areas I want - kitchen.

Customer Reviews

OneFlow + Scale Prevention and Water Filtration System is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product will help out a lot of homeowners I’m mostly happy with this product. I have two reasons this item caught my interest. First, the size is perfect. It’s small and can be mounted to the wall very easily with pretty much little to no footprint. If you are short on space, this is huge. Second, no salt. Salt can be expensive, messy, and heavy. This item has two replaceable filters that reduce scale from hard water and also filter the water to help with taste. At the time of this review, one filter (OFPSP Scale Prevention Cartridge sells at $272.71 ) will last for 3 years and the other filter (OFPRFC Radial Flow Carbon Block Cartridge sells at $119.98) will last for 1 year. OK, changing a filter is easier than dealing with salt, but those filter prices are a bit high for the average consumer. I’m hoping to see these prices drop over time, which I’m sure will help with the popularity of the product. A plus is that replacing the filters is easy. It take just a few minutes even if you are going slowly. In regards to the water. My family noticed the taste difference right away. We have pretty hard water where we live and you can pick up on chemical tastes in the water, so the filter did its’ job around reducing bad tastes. As for scaling from the hard water, I’m used to our appliances and faucets taking the brunt of the hard water impact. I looking forward to seeing the difference on my faucets and appliances over the next few months. I saw no difference in my water pressure, which was excellent and the device takes no electricity which again makes installation much easier. I recommend the product, but it’s important to understand what you are getting. You are getting a device the will reduce scale (build up) in your pipes and appliances and you are getting a product that will reduce chemical taste in water. Keep in mind the cost of the filters with is cheaper than salt, but still fairly expensive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mixed Feelings I have mixed feelings on this system. Let me list the positives then my concerns and the reader can decide. Positive: -Fair price for a whole house water filter system -Small and compact -Easy access to change the filter when needed -Took the chlorine smell out of my water -Water flow is good, no changes going through the filter Concerns: -Cost of replacement filter -Not all chemicals are removed I like not having to smell the chlorine when turning the water on to shower or to wash dishes. I am still using the refrigerator filter for our drinking water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An effective way to filter and descale hard water Having hard well water has always been a struggle in my home. My previous method was using a 20" 20 micron sediment filter prior to a water softener set at "20 hardness". There was the expense initially of the softener plus the salt every month and the filter system plus the monthly filter changes. My water analysis for the straight well water was: Hardness 130 PPM and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) 360 The filtered result of my previous method (without softener) gave me: Hardness 21 PPM and TDS 190. The installation process was straightforward and painless. Just create 1" female threaded connections and hook filter in. Make sure you use the provided mounting bracket because there will be a lot of weight. The last thing anyone needs is to have a water line break. The analysis from the OneFlow+ without using a softener yielded Hardness 5 and TDS 85. Typical criteria indicates this water would be "soft" and just a few points off from "Ideal drinking water" (0-50) and better than "average tap water" (175-410) by a long shot. EPA allows up to 500 TDS so the results yielded were substantially better. From a well water user, this is going to be a painless 3 years. The manufacturer recommends changing the filters every 3 years. The bottom line: There is an upfront expense of the system. However, the cost is not far off from most water softeners. From a maintenance standpoint, I will not be changing and buying filters anymore. Also I will not be buying or adding salt anymore. The results I received have sold me on this system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even in Chicago I need this I thought that by living in Chicago the water would be clean and one night I left a bottle of water that I got from the faucet and left it on my island in the kitchen and in the morning to my surprise the water looked yellowish. So we got a filter for the faucet but what about the water all over the house? So the solution is One Flow. The water does not have a chlorine odor or ugly taste any more. It did not take long for my plumber to install the filtration system, easy installation and once installed the water looked clear as it should be. Now I can take showers, water the plants, ice cubes, water from the fridge, faucets will come out clean. Just awesome product to have anywhere. Overall it works as described.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Proven method for preventing scale My husband is a water quality specialist and did exhaustive research before getting this. He got it for two reasons. First, it's a whole-house system, unlike our previous scale preventer that only processed cold water going to our boiler. Second, the technology this system uses is proven and scientifically solid. There are several other types of scale preventers/filters on the market that use other methods that are not proven to work (e.g., electrical, magentic, etc.), but this one works by actually changing the molecular composition of the things that cause scale (magnesium and calcium) so that they cannot bind with your pipes and fixtures. Plus it was easy to install in under an hour. We did not want a water softener due to the cost, maintenance, and slimy "feel" of softened water, so this was the perfect solution for us. The only downside is the cost of the replacement filters that supposedly need to be replaced every 3 years. Note to the water geeks (like us) out there - simply testing your water for hardness does not verify the effectiveness of this filter because of the way it works. It doesn't remove the magnesium and calcium - they are still there, but after passing through this filter they become inert. My husband found an independent research lab that tested this system and proved its effectiveness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Rural Water Whole House Filtration Unit! I have a few sediment filters for our Rural Water situation & then I came across this unit. This Unit is Fair sized & actually does more in the actual filtration area. I kept the sediment filters in place & allowed this to be the 3rd in Line to the whole house Cold & the water being directed into the water heater. I have had it about a month now & I did a drain & refill on the water heater & the water was noticeably cleaner. My water seems softer in the showers & has cleaned up the white spots when water dries on the counter or in the sink. I am glad I got this & will follow up after a year to give a better assessment of the Unit.
