Can I run the sump pump on a generator? If yes what size generator is needed for the 1/2 HP

The sump pump uses a marine battery for the backup sump pump. The backup sump pump motor is a direct current device. The main pump is driven by an alternating current motor. As a general rule, 1 hp is approximately equivalent to 1 kW (0.75 kW plus mechanical and electrical losses and efficiency).

No. You need to have a deep cycle battery for good performance and long life. The Wayne battery is extremely heavy duty.

After testing, power failure indicator light stays on, and no alarm sounds when I unplug AC power. It worked during testing, but afterwards this. Any ideas? No issues with AC power at outlet and both pumps are working, and battery is charged.

I've never had that issue with mine. The audible always comes on during unplugging or power failures. I would contact wayne customer service regarding your issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressed Installed this sump pump system last night during the wettest December we've had on record. Bought a 1.5" rubber coupler, a 2' piece of 1.5" pvc pipe, and a 12 volt battery so we could complete the installation right away. Measured things up ahead of time, drained the pump pit down with the old pump, pulled it out and quickly installed the new system. Only took minutes to pull the old and place this one in the pit. Was pumping water out within minutes, which was good because the sump was filling fast. Overall the installation took about 1 hour, start to finish, running and securing all the cables, and testing the battery back up pump. The instructions are very poor, but the system is so simple it really doesn't take much. This system is extremely quiet, both pumps! I couldn't believe it, can hardly here either of them run. Pumps seem very powerful as well. Time will tell how it holds up, but overall it really impressed me so far, definitely the easiest backup systems to install, and lots of power.

Claim in 7 yrs., 1st with a power fail overnight with hurricane Irene & 2nd with a jammed impeller and several power outages with summer durecho & hurricane Sandy, I decided to go with a battery backup sumpump system. Even though I have a generator, this system will give you piece of mind while away or on vacation. 2nd backup pump will work even if you don't lose power with the float being higher than the main pump float. Hookup was easy although directions are generic. Get a deep cycle marine battery 12v. I bought mine at Interstate battery for $110. Bring battery case with you when you buy it. This is a superior product to HD Watdog and pumps work well. I recommend testing both pumps monthly putting water in sump hole and test battery as well. Installed last month so 5 star rating for now with regards only to install & initial quality not longevity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great purchase Very robust product - cast iron pump should provide long service life. Primary and backup pumps are both high volume and nearly silent - can barely hear the pump run even when standing right next to the pit. Battery pump has a much stronger flow than I was expecting, nearly what I would expect from a 1/4 to 1/3 HP AC pump. Installation was very simple - trim the length of the PVC discharge pipe, drop the pump into the pit, and glue the PVC together. The instructions are good, but not really necessary. All electrical connections are error-proofed so it is impossible to get the wiring wrong. A couple installation notes - first, remember that you will need two 120V outlets for this - one to power the main pump and one for the battery charger. If your power outlet only has a single outlet like mine did you will need to install a duplex outlet or get a multi-outlet adapter or extension cord. Second, this pump turns on at a lower water level than my previous pump that had a tethered float switch, so the pump runs more often. I'll have to raise the pump on a cinder block to keep the pump from cycling so frequently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy installation I wanted the ability to install a battery backup sump pump. With my current pump being over ten years old, I did not want to risk a failure on the main pump so I purchased the Wayne combo. I was very pleased that it came with a free upgrade to a stainless steel jacket on the main 1/2 HP pump. I removed the old unit at a hose clamp joint where the check valve was located. I removed the existing tube, measured and shortened it. I glued the PVC tube in place and connected my marine deep-cycle battery(previously purchased)Plugged in 3 plugs, connected the charger to the AC outlet and was in business in less than 1/2 hour. Tested the system both AC power and battery. Flawless, did it on the 4th of July and had plenty of time for cooking burgers and fireworks.

Picked up a deep cell battery ($100.00) with a 180 minute reserve and hooked it up. I decided to test the battery so I ran the system on battery power only for 8 hours. The pump cycled every 8 minutes for 8 hours and it only took the battery down to 90% from 100%. I'm calculating that the system with run for at least 3 days without electrical power. That is just what I was hoping for. Couldn't be happier. One last thing, the system comes with 2 built in check valves. Remove your existing valve if you have one on in your line. The box shows the check valves location. Very, very silent operation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I had a failure of my previous battery backup sump system. The float switch failed. I was looking... I had a failure of my previous battery backup sump system. The float switch failed. I was looking for a better designed system. The Wayne system seemed to fit the bill. The electric pump intake sits at the same level as the battery powered pump. The float switch seems to be more robust that my previous system. It also allows for easy checking of battery backup operation. The unit came pre-assembled and was an easy drop-in fit to my sump pit. Installation took less than 30 min. The unit has been in place for about a month now and the electric pump is very quiet and does a good job of evacuation of the sump pit. I also like the fact that the pump was assembled in the U.S. The unit also came with a 5-year warranty which was better than several of the competitors. One thing that I now realize is that sump pumps should be cleaned and checked annually for efficient operation. This was probably the reason my previous pump failed.

I did extensive research and found this primary and back up sump pump system (WSS30V pump and WSB1275 battery) I'm over a year and half into using my system and it works flawlessly. I also occasionally unplug the primary just to make sure the backup works as it should and put use to the battery to keep it in good shape. The customer service (Bob) was also very helpful when I had questions. This is an expensive system after adding the battery, but if you have a nice basement like I do, its well worth the piece of mind. 5 year warranty is also the longest I found. I highly recommend this system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Purchased I had zero experience with sump pumps before buying my new home last Spring. This product was recommended by a friend. Extremely easy setup. I was about to hire a plumber to install until I saw how easy it was when I received it. It is self explanatory (instructions were not well written) and took me under an hour to install. I poured water into the sump pit and it activated without any issues (due to lack of rain so far I haven't seen it work under normal conditions). My builder previously installed a Ion pump which would kick on after about 4-6 inches of water was in the pit. The Wayne pump takes about 2-4 inches more water before kicking on. The battery backup float switch sits up higher and requires more water in the pit before activating. When it does activate an alarm sounds letting you know that your primary pump is not working (because of power outage or pump failure.
