This is the battery that was recommended, and the one i bought, it's a NON acid maintenance free battery. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Basement-Watchdog-Maintenance-Free-AGM-Standby-Battery-BW-27AGM/205907924?MERCH=REC-_-pipsem-_-302330511-_-205907924-_-N

Do you need to replace the entire unit if one or the other pumps stops working?

I do not know for sure as it looks like either could be replaced. The biggest problem will be getting the exact same replacement pump that will fit with the pluming which is attached to the pump with a rubber sleeve and hose clamps.

I contacted Wayne directly to get the diameter of the pumps, they were able to tell me. I am sorry i don't remember what that dimension was.

Can I run the sump pump on a generator? If yes what size generator is needed for the 1/2 HP

The sump pump uses a marine battery for the backup sump pump. The backup sump pump motor is a direct current device. The main pump is driven by an alternating current motor. As a general rule, 1 hp is approximately equivalent to 1 kW (0.75 kW plus mechanical and electrical losses and efficiency).

I've never had that issue with mine. The audible always comes on during unplugging or power failures. I would contact wayne customer service regarding your issue.

I installed the regular washer first and then the terminal connector followed by the lock washer and the terminal nut. works fine. The lights are on top of the box for the battery and not on the batter itself.

Since you're gluing PVC, you'll need to apply a primer before applying the adhesive. Home depot sells the primer and PVC adhesive together in a double pack. PVC Primer is purple and adhesive is clear.

I suspect you will have to splice extensions into the wires supplied by Wayne (longer ready-made wires may not easily be available for this pump). I would not worry too much about proximity to the furnace and water heater - they should be thermally insulated and thus the exterior surfaces should not be hot to the touch (though they may be slightly warm). It should not harm the battery.

I have had this for a few weeks now and so far so good. I love that it comes completely assembled. I just had to drop it into the Sump and connect the outlet pipe. The battery hookup was easy, just 3 wiring harnesses to hook together and plug both the pump and battery charger into the wall and your done. It's quiet and removes water a lot faster than my old 1/4 HP pump.

I apologize if this is a little lengthy but I wanted to give you a review from a complete layman who just swapped out his first Sump Pump. I figured it would just be easier to break out the pros and cons. Tips for Prep - Handsaw or something to cut down the existing PVC pipe if you plan on reusing it. - Be prepared to get down and dirty when you go in and remove the old unit. Debris will need to be cleared from your Basin as well. I was amazed at the amount of stuff just sitting in my basin. I would suggest having something to scoop it out with. I got away with using a garden hand shovel. - Make sure you have two free electrical outlets near by, I ran into an issue with my internet provider using one of the outlets for their equipment. - Wire-ties and cable management will be your friend on this. - Consider buying a cinder block or something to prop up your battery case onto for added height. - Last but not least - DON'T FORGET TO BUY THE BATTERY. :) Pros - The product arrived exactly as described and was packaged very well packaged. I had no worries about it being damaged in shipping. -It truly is ready to roll out of the box. All I had to do on my end was just unwind the cables and drop it into the Basin. - Incredibly quite, I literally had to run back and fill my basin twice to make sure the main pump ran. I was very impressed by that. Cons - You need to be really mindful of grabbing both units at the same time when you attempt to remove it from the box. The only thing holding these two things together is a PVC pipe. - Minor gripe about the battery box, I wish they did a better job with cable management. I just feel like they could have added a little something in that area. - Instructions included aren't specific to this unit, as this was my 1st attempt at installing a sump pump I found myself second guessing if I had to do anything to the unit in preparation. I don't foresee that as an issue for someone with experience with these units. To wrap it up, I would highly recommend this unit to anyone. It can get a little pricey when you add in the battery but if you consider the cost of repairing a finished basement....this become a great investment.

Installed this sump pump system last night during the wettest December we've had on record. Bought a 1.5" rubber coupler, a 2' piece of 1.5" pvc pipe, and a 12 volt battery so we could complete the installation right away. Measured things up ahead of time, drained the pump pit down with the old pump, pulled it out and quickly installed the new system. Only took minutes to pull the old and place this one in the pit. Was pumping water out within minutes, which was good because the sump was filling fast. Overall the installation took about 1 hour, start to finish, running and securing all the cables, and testing the battery back up pump. The instructions are very poor, but the system is so simple it really doesn't take much. This system is extremely quiet, both pumps! I couldn't believe it, can hardly here either of them run. Pumps seem very powerful as well. Time will tell how it holds up, but overall it really impressed me so far, definitely the easiest backup systems to install, and lots of power.

I bought this pump in the spring of 2017. Very easy to install and worked great for just over a year. Then the main pump wouldn't produce enough pressure to remove the drain water from the sump pit. I called the Wayne customer service hotline and was told I have to send in the entire unit for them to troubleshoot. I asked the gentleman what I should use for a sump pump during this time frame? I was told essentially that it was my problem to figure out. So I had to go out an buy another sump pump for use in my home while the other was out at Wayne being diagnosed. A week or so later, Wayne sent me a brand new pump assembly. I installed it and it worked great. Fast forward to earlier this week (September 11th, 2019), I woke up at 2am to the sound of a thunderstorm and my sump pump overflow alarm going off. I found my main sump pump again not working. I unplugged it, tapped the motor, and plugged it back in. It started working but didn't produce enough pump pressure to empty the sump pit so I manually turned on the back up, It made a loud noise and between the 2 pumps limping along, I was able to get the sump pump crock emptied. I removed the Wayne unit and installed the back up pump from last year that I still had in my garage. I called Wayne about shipping back this unit and was (and still am) in utter shock of how I was treated. The customer service rep was trying to tell me that the on/off switch is bad and that its my responsibility to repair. I told her this replacement pump is only just over 1 year old. She continued to not care and not once empathize with me that I was up at 2am worried about if my fully renovated basement would be runined with water from another mal-funtioning Wayne pump. She continued to tell me essential its on me and that she would need documented receipts of these replacement parts (on/off switch) that I put on the Wayne pump prior to allowing me to send the unit back for possible warranty replacement. I was shocked at how this situation was unfolding before my eyes so I asked to speak with a manager. I was transferred and left a detailed message for the manager to call me. 4 days later and I'm still waiting for a phone call back. I have tens of thousands of dollars invested in my home and need a reliable sump pump with back up from a company I can trust. I understand things happen and that's why there is a warranty period but when I'm in that warranty period and receive this kind of disservice from Wayne's customer service and manager, I unfortuantly have to cut ties with Wayne and take my business to another brand like Zoeller. I have a few properties with sump pumps and Wayne pumps will no longer be used. I'll also ensure that anyone thinking about a Wayne pump knows all the facts before moving forward with a purchase.

The pump was easy to assemble. The best part was that the pump barely makes any noise. I had to literally hold the pipe to check if the water was flowing through the pipe. It was that quiet. My previous pipe made a loud noise. I was especially annoying during the night.

Pump came as described. Was VERY easy to install, took longer to take the old sump out then to put this system in. Is very quiet system, barely hear when it is running and we have had some strong storms recently. Have not had back up system kick in yet (thankfully) as we have not had power outage recently, but did test on installation and all was working well. Only negative I would give is that the system has been in the crock for only 1.5 weeks and is already rusting at the bottom and connections at both units. We have city water and run off only. Time will tell if these will last. I also purchased the maintenance free battery from Wayne as well.
