Instead of submersing this, is it possible to have a hose that sucks into the pump then spits out the top? I'd like to set it beside an old cistern and pump out the water to see what is in there, and later use it to pump water into and out of my small pond.
Asked by: Skoller
I dont believe that would be possible. Remember, it is a "submersible". Also, I don't believe there is a way to fasten a hose to the intake. You need a sweltering type of pump. I believe you would burn the pump out trying to use it in this manner. Hope this helps. Been about 2 years since I installed this pump so I can't recall absolute particulars about this pump.

Can this be used on a septic system.

Asked by: Lsm77mm
Yes, this is a sewage pump. It is typically used in a bathroom that is below ground level and needs to pump up to waste line. it will handle 2" waste. DO NOT flush anything besides single ply toilet paper. No wipes or towels, etc.

1/2 HP Cast Iron Sewage Pump with Tether Float Switch is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 92.

This impeller is made out of thermoplastic and no replacement part is available from Wayne pumps. Even under warranty this is a return to store warranty. Purchased on 06-17-16; failed on 6-4-17. No interference caused this failure because the fins are not marked. I stated my concerns with their lack of support for this product.

Plumber was going to charge over $800 to install a new pump..... Install was fairly easy and it worked like a charm up until the week of 13 March, exactly 3 months after purchase. Well looks like I wasted my money as the pump no longer works. With what I paid for it ($111) not willing to go through the hassle of trying to get it repaired. Seems to have good reviews and I researched a lot on this one but I will not purchase from "Wayne" again. Very disappointed especially since the older pump I replaced had been working for over 10 years. Amazing how "technology" gets more efficient but doesn't even last 1/10th of what the older equipment did.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not too happy This pump was fairly easy to install, however, it lasted only a few months after the 1 yr warranty. It was a replacement for the original 26 yr old pump.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pump I needed to replace a 9 year old pump that died. The pump is in a 42 gal lift station for a full bath in the lower part of my home. The main tank is approx 50 ft away. from this station After pricing several different pumps, I decided to give this pump a try. The pump this one is replacing cost over 400 dollars with the same warranty. HD did not have this pump is store. I ordered it online with an expected delevery date of 5-7 days. To my surprise ,UPS showed up in 3 days with the pump. Installitation was simple and straight forward. Anyone with even basic plumbing skills should be able to swap this pump. Make sure you activate the float switch several times, either with a water hose or tub / sink, just to make sure the float (tether) switch is set to the level you need and that it is free to rise and fall with the water level, without obstruction. Check this before you close everything up and cover everything back up. This pump is extremely quiet. My tether is set to about the top of the pump, and it takes about 15 secs to empty the 20 or so gallons of water. So far, it has been about 3 months and this pump has not let me down. Unless I am outside and within 20 feet of this lift station, I never hear the pump running. I am expecting many years of service. IF there are any problems within the first 5 years, I will update this post

It took water level down to practically dry just by digging a 4 inch deep pit a pond bottom to set the pump in and holding the float up to trick it into running. Pump will run hot if not fully submerged. Probably not good for its life but ok for short cycles.

After opening, I could tell that it was completely covered in oil (from the motor I assume?). It was a total mess and was immediately returned. Seems to be poorly constructed if all the oil leaked out.
