Water comes in my garage when it rains heavy and I have about 1/16 to up to 1/4 of an inch that I need to remove. Would this Wayne utility pump be of help ?
Asked by: granpa1942
Not really. To prime or start this pump, you need about a half to three-quarters of an inch of water. This pump is designed to pump a lot of water and pump it quickly. It will drain a rain barrel or 55-gallon drum in about five or six minutes.

1/2 HP Non-Clogging Vortex, Reinforced Thermoplastic Submersible Utility Pump is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 297.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Great Used the pump to empty about 5,000 gallons of water from my pool when the main drain was clogged. I didn't use the fitting supplied with the pump, I used a 1-1/4 npt to 1-1/2 solvent weld adaptor screwed into the pump and then attached a 1-1/2 x 90 elbow and a 4" long piece of 1-1/2" pipe. This allowed me to attach my 2" id layflat hose and the pump emptied the pool in about 2-1/2 hours. I would recommend when you attach the elbow to the pump that you do not point the elbow upwards bacause the pump falls over when the water level is low, point the elbow about 15 degrees above horizontal abd the pump remains stable. Worked great right out of the box. Only complaint is that the cord could be at least 8 feet longer, I used a heavy duty extension cord and had to tie the cord to the pool ladder to prevent the plug from falling into the water. I also used the pump later on with the regular adaptor and a garden hose and it is painfully slow when used this way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Emergency pump! Saved our bacon for sure! This is a must have for those "it hardly ever floods here" kinds of floods. We had a whole day of heavy rain and near the end of the day water started pouring into our basement. At the time we discovered it we had about 2-3 inches of standing water. This is actually not a sump pump like the permanently mounted home variety. It's a portable auxillary pump (Submersible) . Weighs like 3 or 4 pounds. We dropped this into the low spot on the floor, ran a hose out, plugged it in and let her go. It kept up nicely with the water pouring in then finally beat it. It's a great tool for advanced preparedness because I had it out of the box, hooked up and running in just 2 minutes. One thing to keep in mind is that if you're prone to power issues, you might want to pair this with a portable generator. You'll also want three pronged extension cords, and hooks to run the cord out of the water. This little pump is a rock star. I'm actually investing in a second one now.

I have purchased two...the first one I threw in the trash after 6 months, it stopped functioning. The second one, I purchased two months ago, I have used it one time for half an hour to pump from my rain catchment system. It functioned for half an hour and then died. I will take it back to Home Depot tomorrow and I will NEVER purchase another Wayne pump. I am an anthropologist and I teach sustainability, including water catchment. I plan to tell everyone I know about my experience. Two pumps, one year, neither functioned. The last one functioned less than an hour. RIdiculous! The task was not burdensome or difficult, drop the pump into a barrel and pump the water out. What is so difficult about that? Some people don't have time to wait for the item, try to use it, think they have something they can use, because they are not sold in the store, and then when the time comes to use it, it doesn't function, so you drive back to Home Depot to return it.

The pump hooked up to my 100 ft. garden hose and transferred snow melt water from the backyard to the driveway. It kept the water level from reaching the side of my house. I’ve never experienced such rapid snow melt before so now I am ready for next time.
