Answer This Question

A:  Yes there is a large and a small one. The compact is for the Smokey Joe travel grill.

A:  Hello! Thank you for your interest in our Compact RapidFire Chimney starter. We have a smaller version that would be part number 7447. Then we have a larger version that would be part number 7416. If you have further questions please contact our support team. Thanks!

A:  There is a full-size and a compact size. We found the full-size to be way too big for our family of 4 so took it back and ordered the compact which was just right for our typical grilling. The larger one would be recommended if you are grilling for a crowd.

Q:WILL IT FIT INSIDE A SMOKEY JOE FOR STORAGE?

              Answer This Question

A:  Not sure - if so, it would be very tight. We do not have our Smokey joe anymore.

A:  It is too large to lay on the cooking grate and have the lid it. If you remove the cooking grate it can sit on the charcoal grate and the lid will then close.

A:  I do not believe it will fit inside. I do not have mine with me, but it is around twelve inches high and about eight inches across the base and sides without the handle. It may work if the handles were removed. I don't think the Smokey Joe is high enough for it to fit.

                  by|May 9, 2019

A:  It should. I have a VERY LARGE Smoker and a standard size charcoal grill. It lays down just fine in both.

A:  Hello Tom, no, this chimney starter will not fit inside of a Smokey Joe for storage. Thanks.

A:  You could, but there is a little roll of starter material which works well, tumbleweed bundle. Never have a problem lighting it.

A:  Yes, but its designed so you don’t need lighter fluid/pre-soaked briquettes. A single Weber paraffin cube placed under the chimney filled with briquettes or lump hardwood works best.

A:  Yes, but why would you need to? Its literally just as fast and easy without.

A:  I don't know whether you could use the Match Light charcoal, but I do know that defeats the purpose of having the chimney starter. Match Light will start on it's own, just using a match. The chimney starter was designed so you don't need any starter fluid whether separate from the charcoal or contained within it like with Match Light. All you need is a piece of newspaper at the bottom of the chimney to start the charcoal. This saves the expense of lighter fluid or the additional expense of the Match Light charcoal. All you will need are just plain charcoal briquettes saving money over the very expensive Match Light charcoal.

A:  The whole point in using a charcoal chimney starter is that you can get away from the nasty flavor that lighter fluid imparts to the food. Regular charcoal and newspaper will do a great job. As far as whether you can use it I guess you can but why would you want to?

A:  Sure, but you really don't need to. A little paper (I usually just rip off a portion of the charcoal bag) will get regular charcoal lit without a problem.

A:  Hi BBQDiva! We do not recommend using Match Light charcoal, or any other charcoal impregnated with lighter fluid, in our chimney starters. Thanks!

A:  Yes, but it is not necessary and defeats the purpose of the chimney cleanly lighting charcoal with no petroleum products. Match Light charcoal contains petroleum products so it will light without any starter. You don't need a chimney if you are using Match Light charcoal.

I have two grills and have a Weber chimney starter that I really like for my larger grill. I bought the Weber Compact chimney starter for my smaller kettle grill because it uses less charcoal. This is exactly what I needed. I wish I had bought it sooner. This starter is excelent quality I would highly recommend it for lighting smaller amounts of charcoal.

too small, the area underneath is too small to ignite regular briquettes, the area above doesn't hold enough briquettes, construction is okay (they used screws to hold the handle and unit together instead of pop rivets which rusted), design is poor!

A simply awesome tool, just got better!
The ease of use, simplicity and convenience of the Original charcoal Chimney Starter, is well known, and has been around for years. With the latest creation of the COMPACT Charcoal Chimney, cooking life is even better. It is an ideal size for traveling, or using around the house, when you don't really need 100 pieces of charcoal burning. It is the perfect size for my Weber, Little Smokey grill, which we use camping. It is an ideal tool, when cooking on your Camp Dutch Ovens. Or if you are grilling on the bigger grills, but really don't need allot of coals to do the job. Compact is the way to go. When pack space is a concern, and you don't need a ton of charcoal to cook your meals, this is perfect tool for the job. I highly recommend it. The compact model is about 1/3 the size of the original chimney starter, and half the price.

I already have the Big Daddy Chimney starter, but I wanted a smaller version so as to carry in a toolbag. This small version is ideal, just as easy to start the charcoal, it doesn't require too much newspaper to fuel the fire. I did't have to buy a minimum to get free shipping like at Amazon. I picked it up at my local Homedepot. Would definitely recommend the tool and HomeDepot as a source for this Chimney..
