Questions & Answers

To those of you that have used the sear burner... how is it working for you?

I've had a Ducane that has served me wonderfully for 16 years. My only complaint is that I can't get it hot enough to sear a good steak. I don't need a side burner. Can't see spending the extra money getting it.... but the sear burner. I'd consider for it. For those of you that wanted that in a grill, is it working for you. Thanks for any input!
Asked by: markshan
I have the S-330 so it has stainless steel grates rather than the ceramic coated grates. It was $50 extra and had to hunt for this last model available. If you cannot find it you'll have to shell out DOUBLE for a Genesis II LX model!!!! Those do not have the SEAR STATION, but from I hear, has more BTU power so should get real hot to sear even WITHOUT the extra "SEAR STATION". The LX model dumbs it all down also by removing the "SEAR STATION" as at first will take some "thinking" to use it properly if new to it. Having the tank on the right externally on the LX is actually a good idea, leaves more room inside for things. At first didn't know what to think of it. All that aside...YES! The SEAR STATION works GREAT! It makes great marks and very fast, so be careful! Grill gets way up in temp for this. Depending on thickness of steak etc, I SEAR 1 minute first side at 10 oclock, then rotate to 2 oclock another minute with lid closed. Then flip and repeat. After that, SLIDE it over to the RIGHT for INDIRECT HEAT cooking to finish up depending on how well you want it and internal meat temp. Don't put filet on grill right out of refrigerator cold. Rub extra virgin oil on the all sides of the filet and rub in seasoning and/or COARSE salt and pepper. You do NOT need to OIL the grates. It will just burn off quick and cause for major flare up fire hazards! The side burner is great also for heating up sides etc. If your considering a INFRARED burner (like a catalytic convertor of your car!) to sear, keep in mind those are great for searing, but you can only use for that purpose. So you'll loose grilling space if its part of main grilling space. Some grills (i.e. KitchenAid (which is made by NexGrill) have this separate, i.e. where a side burner may usually be on right or left. But you can't just slide the seared meat on the grill, have to pick it up and move to main grilling area. Webers are the BEST. Hard to come off the cash at first BUT WELL WORTH IT! Night and Day difference of the rest!!!! fyi, the SPIRIT line of WEBERS are made in in CHINA. The NON-LX Genesis II are also. The LX apparently are not, but parts sourced outside US like the original GENESIS and the SUMMITs. It was pretty easy putting together. YouTube vidfeos show how easy it is. Use the box it came in as a table to put it together initially. Only complaint, was at the very end hooking up the gas line to the side burner. It was not lining up very good at all and really had to work it in finally. You worry if any gas lines formed cracks or anything after that. Unacceptable. So have to use soapy water solution to check for leaks before starting either way.

Is there a stainless flavorizer bar and cooking grate option?

I love the look of the copper grill, but I want stainless bars and grates. Is my only option to buy the stainless replacement parts and throw away perfectly fine brand new enamel parts? When I bought my older black enamel Weber Spirit grill about 12 years ago, I was able to pay a small price upgrade to get the stainless steel insides.
Asked by: ReadyToBuyANewWeber
Yes I bought the stainless steel grates and flavor bars on eBay after purchasing tha e-330 Weber grill. I got the grill on sale in August when grills normally go on sale.

Does the Weber Genesis E-330 gas grill come in any colors other than copper?

Asked by: Doods
I have seen black, green and copper in Home Depot online but have also read in a review that red is available. Copper seems to be what is left in stock at the two Home Depots near me, and that is what I bought - in my opinion the copper grill is more attractive than black but others must not think so.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong and Sound. Its a little pricey for what you get, but its cause its made in America so its worth it. The Box it came in was super big. Kind of made me mad, the shipping company never contacted me, and when I came home it was sitting on my poarch (Anyone could have taking it). Grill was super easy to do, directions called for two people, I was able to do it by myself. Only had one defective part (Called Customer service they sent me a new one in two days no charge), Only problem was hooking up the side burner. Customer service said to use saliva to hook it up, Kind of gross but worked like a champ, takes a little bit of time to get the gas connection to lock. Make sure you pay attention to the wheels when installing, I made the mistake and it was a pain to fix. Would strongly recomend this grill to anyone, love the copper coller, looks great in the back yard, if had to do it all over again would.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best grill I have owned in 45 years of grilling! I had a Charbroil Red which was the worst grill i have ever owned. This one tops my previous Weber grills by a wide margin. I have used it twice, once for veggies and once for chicken. I love the searing burner. Plus the quality of construction and ease of assembly was far better than others I have tried. I would recommend this grill in a heartbeat. Sorry I didn't buy it when I bought the Charbroil Red two years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from built to last, performs flawlessly quality construction with durable components. I replaced a more expensive grill from a well known wholesaler which lasted not 2 yrs. before the internals rusted out. I researched opinions/reviews on quality grills that not only would perform well at all aspects of grilling/heat levels but had quality components. The Weber Genesis is all I want in a grill. Assembled by myself in 2 hours - all parts lined up with no hassles. the grill heats up quickly to 550, but you can hold a low temp if needed. the sear burner (located between two burner tubes) really increases the temp resulting in sear results in a short time. I realize I should have bought a Weber to begin with.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality The grill looks great. The side burner never worked. We've had the grill for a year and one of the crossover channels that are welded into place broke off! It is not easy to clean and maintain the ports as you would have to disassemble to be able to reach the set screws on the air shutter. The bolts on the back that release the burners from the crossover channels cannot be removed, as directions say, after a year of use. The temperature gauge never goes above 200, even though it is heating above that. It is not accurate. We also purchased the grill cover which has completely faded after one year. Very disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from w.o.w. Bottom line: It's definitely a step up in price from the standard fair but the construction and grilling capacity are well worth it (thus far). I received our Weber yesterday but have used it twice already. I did a ton of research prior to purchase (HD, independent sites, Consumer Reports) and all pointed to Weber. PROS: Firstly, the assembly does take a couple of hours but the quality of all of the parts and assembly design is simply superior to grills I've had previously (this is my first Weber). Nothing feels flimsy or loose. All parts fit exactly as they should. Directions are color coded and easy to follow. Two things I really like but didn't know about until after the purchase: 1) the weighted propane indicator - nice, nothing fancy but gives a decent read of how much propane remains in the tank AND keeps the tank off of the base (avoids metal on metal contact, re: future corrosion), and 2) drip pan access and catch basin - Weber designed the drip pan at an angle, directing dripping and grease to a hole that opens to a drip pan that can be cleaned and removed easily. Simple but effective. My previous grill (Charbroil - $450) suffered as a result of this design flaw. Two grill sessions in and the drip pan is already doing it's job. Cooking: two sessions include chicen breasts and T-bones. The searing station is worth it's weight in cost already as I've used it both times. I threw the chicken breasts on the searing station as recommended, waited until they could be flipped without issue, did so for another few minutes and then finished them off on the side. My first go around and they were perfect. Grill marks and tender inside. The same happened with the T-bones. I'm not naive enough to believe that this will be the standard since I still need to get a good understanding of the grill but I was pleasantly surprised nonetheless. Dials are decent and marked well for better control. A much larger grilling space than I originally envisioned. I've not used the side burner nor have I tried the rotisserie attachement I purchased. The hood is large and contains heat very well. The manual suggests that a 15 minute timeline to reach 550 but it gets there closer to half that, very impressive. CONS: It is but it isn't - or - it's strength is it's weakness. You can't see the flames after it's been lit. This is because the flames stay contained under the Flavorizer Bars. Some may be bothered by it but I've adapted (not fully) after two sessions. Time will tell whether it diminishes flairs or not but it's already superior to my last attempt. Cost. Weber isn't cheap BUT if other dedicated owners are any indication, the grill should outlast the other I've had. I'll update as necessary but so far so good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best Weber grill I have ever owned.! This grill is easy to use. It ignites quickly and heats evenly. The searing burner is a definite benefit of this grill. It sears the meat evenly and fast so meats that require indirect heat come off the grill nicely charred but never burnt. The flavor of the food is incredible.Just had burgers tonight and the way the grill is designed it hardly flared up. Don't let the price scare you. If you are an experienced outdoor cooker you will love this grill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great grill Performs like a charm. Very little to no flare ups. Heats evenly and gets up to temperature very fast. I initially bought the a similar one from Sears and returned after a week. I bought the real deal just in to enjoy the summer and couldn't be happier with the grill. The customer service was excellent. If only it was a little cheaper or go on sale every now and then. Also, additional color pallets would be nice
