Questions & Answers

can you take out the burner and put the charcoal grill in it and use charcoal to cook with

can you take out the burner and put the charcoal grill in it and use charcoal to cook with
Asked by: mema
I recently bought a converible grill and came up with a great idea for any gas bbq. To turn this into a charcoal grill, find a roasting pan at a thriftstore that fits on top of grill. Poke or drill some hole in the pan for ventilation, possibly put a couple of bolts through to keep it from sliding on top. Load with charcoal, use gas burner to start instead of lighter fluid, place grill on top. Your own convertible grill.

Is this safe for indoor use?

Asked by: James
Outdoor use only. I would like to know who your homeowners insurance policy is with? I I would recommend you cook microwave meals to try and keep yourself safe.

Is this grill safe to use on a wooden deck?

Is it dangerous to use this grill on a wooden deck? Also, can it placed on a outdoor glass table while cooking? I am trying to figure out if this grill is practical for me. I need to know how hot the outside of the grill gets and whether it would cause damage to table tops. I also need to know if there is a risk using this grill on a wooden deck. My options would be to place it directly on my wooden deck or to place it on my patio table (which is also on the wooden deck).
Asked by: Need2know
Definitely. I keep a piece of cardboard under mine in case of grease drippings. I also keep tinfoil in the bottom of the BBQ because it makes it easier to keep clean.

Customer Reviews

Weber Go-Anywhere 1-Burner Portable Propane Gas Grill in Black is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 211.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Needs a name change I've used this grill on and off for a year now. It has cooked well for me, but I would recommend some redesign to manage the grease collection. This is a messy, messy grill. The lip of the lid rides outside the bottom section of the grill, and it collects grease and drips it down the outside of the grill. It regularly drips grease from the bottom of the grill and from the holes where the legs are inserted. At least have the lid sit inside the bottom pan. If there was a narrow channel around the inside of the bottom section to collect grease and divert to a tin foil pan, I think it would function better. Maybe redesign the cooking grate to drain to the side walls and then into the above described collector. I have had a full size natural gas Weber, several charcoal kettle Webers and a Q-grill. This Go-Anywhere is a disappointment. I use a metal baking sheet under the entire grill just to catch grease. So, yes. "Go-Anywhere" could changed Go-Anywhere Except at Home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go Anywhere grill does go anywhere This is a simple light-weight grill that is incredibly easy to use at a tailgate. I use the grill to cook brats before a college soccer games. It handles this job well. I was worried that the metal bottom of the grill would radiate heat downward and cause problems on the plastic table, but this has not been the case at all. The table stays cool. As well, I turn off the grill 10 minutes before we pack up and it is then cool enough to put in the car without any worries. The one concern I have is that the grill has open holes in the bottom for air to flow through and for drippings. I worry that if I just set the grill in the back of the car without putting it in a bag or box, then I could stain the carpet in the back of the SUV. I wish there were some closure for those holes so I wouldn't have to worry about dripping during transport and storage. Besides that, great grill for the price. It does what it needs to do and doesn't break the bank.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great portable grill but needs lots of cleanup We have used this a few times and it cooks burgers and hot dogs almost as well as our Genesis II E-310! The main downside is that you will spend 20 minutes or more thoroughly cleaning it out from all the grease, even on 93/7 ground beef or turkey. The grate has to be washed off as does the top and bottom of the grill, otherwise you are carrying around a smelly, greasy grill that will stink up your car or home and leave grease stains on your interior. The things I would suggest they improve upon in the next version of this: make a clamp that secures the propane bottle to the grate for storage & carrying (maybe something that attaches to the tank that you can twist/clip to the grate after it's cool and clean) and make some kind of way to use aluminum foil to coat the bottom of the grill so it takes less effort to cleanup. Honestly I should be able to use a few wipes to clean the top & bottom after use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dissapointed Pretty disappointed in the product. Got it because my county has enacted a ban on campfires and charcoal grills. So got this as I'm in an RV. It's an ok camp grill but theres low medium high and really only low then shoots to high. The plastic handles get pretty hot. If theres no wind your not touching them. Also, I have lots of issues cooking on that grill? Seems more like a boiler plate. Causes burnt edges or raw middle on foods needing a more even cook because of it. Also its sticky as heck and doesnt clean well. Had one decent cook when it was brand new but now everything gets ruined cause it sticks. And from what I can tell the older version didnt have any of these issue. Why Weber? Why?! Is there at least an optional chrome wire grill replacement I can buy? Would honestly add 2 stars to my review just having a proper grill top. P.s. would add photo but it says photo is too big. At all sizes. So it doesnt truly let you add photos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable, excellent In 2004 or 2005 my friend moved into a new apartment and found a rusty old Go-Anywhere on her balcony. Knowing I liked to camp, she offered it to me. Knowing it was a Weber, I gladly accepted. I cleaned it up and used it untl 2017, when my ex-husband wanted to borrow it. It got a lot of use at Walden Pond with the kids, but when I picked it up this morning, it was moldy and rusty. I cleaned it up, scrubbed it down, and--wait for it--the ignitor still works. After all this time and some careless treatment. The only problem is that the baffle is rotted with rust, and I can't find a replacement baffle. Nevertheless, I'm about to take it with me on a 5-day camping trip/mountain bike festival. I also have a Q-series propane grill (neighbors moving overseas left it on the curb after a yard sale before they moved) and a Smokey Joe (charcoal) (also street find). I think Weber grills are the best ever. But I'd love to find a replacement baffle for my portable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cooks Very Well I used this for a week this month and it cooked very well. The cooking surface was much easier to clean than the older versions (I have owned 3 over the years). I marked it 4 stars because the igniter does not work. I have never had a Weber where that device worked. Instead I just use a lighter or matches. The Coleman stove I have had for several years, lights first time every time with the igniter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not impressed I bought this gril lthinking it would be great beacause its a webber. however i cannot keep the thing lit . A small wind blows and its out. very frustrating.I have to build a fort around it every time i want to ust it. the cooking grate cooks like a steamer instead of a grill. The orface on the regulator seems too small , the flame on high setting is very small.
