A:  Yes. I use it for my model Railroad project lighting.

A:  Yes excellent product

A:  Hey 5456, It would depend on what your hobby projects are but as a general soldering iron for hobby use this one is great. Thanks!

    by|Dec 7, 2020

A:  Absolutely, I use mine for my model railroad where I solder circuit boards and track. However if I were to buy a new one I'd probably spend a little more and get the kit with the stand so I could be sure the iron had a place to rest that is more solid than the little stand that came with this one.

A:  This is great for hobby projects. Use mine mostly for guitar work. Very precise.

      A:  It will

      by|Oct 17, 2020

A:  Yes it will melt small holes in plastic if that is what you need it for!

        by|Nov 12, 2020

A:  I actually returned this soldering iron because it was UNSAFE TO USE - the flimsy stand kept falling over, allowing a hot tip to come in contact with anything it touched. Besides that - this tool is MUCH too heavy-duty for your needs. I got a terrific cordless, battery-operated iron called the Hakko 6-Watt Battery-Powered Soldering Iron from HD, which works great, & would be perfect for your needs!

A:  I am not sure. I bought this for soldering electrical connections. I ended up trashing this one and getting another since it did not get hot enough for the 60/40j solder I bought at the same time. It did get hot enough to possible burn your hand, and may melt plastic; I just don't know for sure.

        by|Sep 25, 2020

A:  This should do the trick as long as it has a pencil tip om it.

Good general purpose iron used to solder broken wires on home tool. 25w quick solder melt, no complaints there. Would have bought online as the cost was no great, but needed tool that day. The stand that comes with it is more useful when you screw it to a piece of wood and have a nice platform to work on

I needed a small solder iron for hobby and electric work. This unit works well. I like the selection of tips from pointed to flat blade. I use this unit not only to solder but to cut holes in plastic. You can even make your own cutting tips and screw them on with a short screw.Having the ability to change tips is very helpful. The LEDs are also a help in illuminating the area. A Super Solder !!!!

Worked perfectly for my application. Needed to solder XLR ends to microphone cable. Needed to wire brush the tip to keep it clean of course. It was 32 solder points in all. Knocked out the job very quickly.

                Great soldering kit!
This is a really nice soldering kit that has all the bells and whistles that you could want. I'm really impressed with this set up and it works exceptionally well. Heats up quickly and is pretty precise! Comes with some solder, the soldering iron, stand and different heads. This is my first soldering iron but have worked with them before. Does a great job and I'm definitely a happy camper with the results. Highly recommend!

                Very solid
This is a very solid home use soldering iron, not fancy but it has an excellent warranty and looks like it will give years of light duty service. The kit comes with 3 tips, which is rather nice, I'll be using this primarily for art projects and I had one by the same company years ago and it lasted seemingly forever, I gave it to a friend after using it for years and it was still going strong. I expect this soldering iron will give me the same service.

                Useful Soldering Kit
General: Good quality and useful soldering iron. The LED lighting comes in very handy when working outside of a work bench. I’ve used it to solder wires on a boat where there is low light; which is when you can really appreciate having the LED lights on it. Material/Construction: Looks and feels like a good quality soldering iron. Functionality: Works as it is supposed to. Heats up fast. There is not temperature control, so you would have to be a little more careful when soldering. The smaller tips that come with the kit are useful when soldering smaller components on circuit boards. The iron is fairly light which is nice when working with it for an extended period of time.

                Light Weight Portable Soldering Iron
Let me start by saying I’m a soldering novice. I haven’t done much soldering other than simple experimentation now and then. I’ve used other tools in the past, just experimenting including soldering guns, torches and even actual irons heated by a flame. I wanted to pick up this kit for occasional work on small electronics or other projects. The kit comes with the soldering iron, a very basic metal stand (punched from a thin piece of sheet metal and bent into a stand like shape), three soldering tips, a soldering aid tool, a small coil of lead free solder, and a user’s guide. The user’s guide is essentially just a square of folded paper with some basic soldering instructions, safety guidance, soldering iron care, and warranty printed in three languages. The typeface is pretty small, so don’t forget your reading glasses. When I first plugged the iron in, before I even started to solder, the tip produced quite a bit of smoke while it heated. I was glad to have a vent hood fan in place over my work bench to send the smoke outside. The soldering tips screw on and off and are securely held in place when finger tight. The soldering iron is not temperature adjustable and seemed to take several minutes to heat up enough to melt any solder. The lights included in the handle focus nicely on the tip and provide adequate lighting for working on a project, even in a dark area, without much of a shadow being produced by the tip itself. I found the iron easy to hold and manipulate at my work bench. I would have liked the power cord to be more supple and perhaps a foot longer. Since the power cord is a little stiff, and the iron itself is fairly lightweight, you need to be very careful to set the iron down securely so that the power cord doesn’t cause the iron to move unexpectedly. The included stand is almost useless because it can’t prevent the iron from moving if the power cord is jostled. I was able to solder together a few wired electronics connections, so I achieved the goal for which I obtained this iron. Overall, I’d say this iron is good for occasional, light duty soldering or when portability is required. Since it doesn’t include features like an on off switch, temperature control, or an appropriate stand, it is less suited for anyone looking to do frequent or heavy duty soldering..
