what you are doing seems to be the correct method to bring it down, possibly one or both sides is stuck and needs lubrication, or possibly a spring is broken or damaged. You may also make sure that you are pushing it up high enough to release the two supports.

I had a werner 24' fiberglass extension ladder for 15 years. I used the heck out of it. After the Texas SNOWVID-21 storm in February, I had to take down 40 branches. Dang, lugging that ladder around was a workout over a week. I sold the fiberglass ladder online and purchased the Werner 20ft aluminum extension ladder. The aluminum ladder will carry all possible loads that I would need. It is super light. I can lift it over my head easily - like 30 lbs. I noticed that everything was just a bit lighter than the previous ladder, but still, I am satisfied with the quality and stability. I finished off some branches, etc. with no problem. Moreover, I hung that ladder from the garage ceiling easily. I feel confident it won't fall. I was not comfortable hanging the previous ladder for fear of falling on my head, even though my hooks were strong enough. I don't think about the new ladder overhead at all. Good product for my use case. Loyal Werner customer. (Have yet a 3rd step ladder also).

1) Not heavy. 2) The right hand side of the rungs on the extension ladder are higher than the left hand side that can cause the load or weight to slide to the left. 3)The left hand side spring loaded lock comes in contact with rung of the main ladder when put in lock position which is transferring the load from the extension ladder to the main ladder while the right hand side spring loaded lock does not. This situation puts a lot more of the weight and stress to the right side of the ladder specially the left leg which was designed to carry only half of it.

Great ladder,,,,,,,, just wish Home Depot would stock have stocked one,, understand you don't sell them everyday, but looks like you could track sales in every region over the years and have one store in that region carry one, so that when one is needed it could be transferred that the store in needed within a couple of days for the customer to pick up, and saving the $75 delivery fee plus having the ladder quicker.... thanks

Very strong and durable. The envy of team mates - especially the price paid at HD. It is a bit heavy and learning how to set the feet on solid vs. soft ground is tricky. Should include a diagram on the side of the ladder.
