Q:How big a box can be carried up the ladder
by|Nov 21, 2022

Answer This Question

A:  Figure on a width of 20 inches… you don’t get a full 22.5 inches with the finish framing and supports. If you have the space they make a larger unit.

by|Dec 11, 2022

A:  Model AE2210: Inside of the frame work, at the point where the hinges and the gas struts attach, the opening is 18.25 inches wide. The dimensions inside the frame of the AE2210 are 51.75 inches by 20.5 inches. You will have to determine the size box, to carry. Do not exceed the duty rating of the ladder. It is the weight of the user, shoes, clothes, anything that is carried while on the ladder is not to exceed 375 lbs. duty rating.

    by|Nov 22, 2022

A:  The opening is 50 “ x  17.5” that’s about the size box  that should fit through the opening.

A:  I have gotten some awkward ones up to the attic. However I have no issue with the plastic storage totes. All sizes have fit through.

Q:my rough opening is 31"w x 54" L. Will this work? I don't need it to seal the entire opening as it is for a loft in an unheated garage.

A:  This unit is insulated and more for installations that are in at least one heated area. Why get this one when they have a good selection of regular styles.

                    by|Sep 19, 2022

A:  Sure, you just need to do a little framing to narrow the opening down to 22.5" ... it has to be fully supported on all 4 sides.

                                  Faulty Ladder Poor Customer Service
We purchased this ladder about 3 years ago. It was used about 2-3 times a month. While putting the ladder back up the rivot from the hinge bent and eventually separated from the stair. We contacted customer service and stated the ladder was not under warranty and to take it out of service since it was not repairable. We have since installed another brand and it works great. We also installed the other brand in our son’s house it has worked great. I will never buy another Werner ladder again due to the poor quality and lack of customer service. See pictures.

Good product and install was pretty straight forward. The trick is to ensure the opening dimensions are square. We were pleased and would buy again.

                                      Good ladder, tight seal
I expected it to be a chore to install and I was right. But I was pleased the way that it turned out. I watched the installation video a couple of times and read the instructions. They help, but I was glad that I had experience installing doors and windows. I used a metal square to square the frame rather than the cross-measure method shown in the video. But, other than that, the installation pretty much followed both the directions and video. The door is heavy for one person. I did it alone but I really wished afterwards that I had gotten help. I had a pulley and a rope to hold it. But it took a bit to get it in place even at that. The video makes it look a lot easier than it actually is to muscle up and in. The door itself is thicker than a standard attic door, similar to a standard low-end bedroom door. So it will extend below the frame about a quarter inch. But once framed, it looks fine. There is good insulation all around and it forms a snug, pretty air-tight fit. There will be space around the frame after shimmed that you may want to put installation in. I used “good stuff” spray foam. Be sure to wear gloves!!! That stuff really sticks to skin!! I used gloves but got some on my wrist and got to wear it for a couple of days as a result. Cutting the ladder was expected from watching the video, but the cutting length in the table guide is an inch off (at least for me). I measured my ceiling height several times before cutting the recommended amount off. The result was about 1 inch short of have the base of the ladder fit exactly on the base of the feet. I was still able to mount them okay using the center of 3 pre-drilled holes in the feet. But I would have preferred the ladder to extend beyond the bottom hole. The ladder operation is smooth and the door is pulled up tightly in place when closed. When extended, the ladder feels solid and I feel safe carrying things up and down.

These stairs are low quality. I'm taking them back out. They don't sit flush when closed. The stop is mounted too low so the stairs won't close all the way. Also the frame is not square.

This Attic Ladder was perfect, amazingly not as heavy and still very solid after the installation. I was not aware that the length of the ladder needs to be adjusted at home by cutting the aluminum ladder, however it really makes sense as not all the houses have the same height; cutting the ladder was a bit unexpected work but it worked great.

Seems sturdy and well built for the price. However, the dimensions of the box around the stairs was not square. The width at the end away from the hinge was about 1/4" wider, which led to some serious installation issues. Especially before we even realized the box measurements were not symmetrical! And yes, the attic opening was square and had the same length and width measurements. Stuck with it though (easier than uninstalling and returning), but I wouldn't buy it again due to poor quality control from Weber.

A very strong ladder; I'm glad I opted for the 350# capacity aluminum model. It's relatively easy to install, provided you've located the headers squarely, measured correctly, and have a good assistant for helping lift it into place and screwing it into the headers and trusses.. My only complaints are that the frame was kinda crudely assembled, and the door bottom was made of very cheap hardboard. Some 1/4" a-c plywood would have been a whole lot nicer and stronger! The hinge and actuating cylinders work very smoothly. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the product. I'm 71-years-old, and if I can tackle this project, with a little help securing it, most folks with a little carpentry experience should have no problems at all with its installation.
