Quality, for a bundle of "#1" singles is spotty-- at best. I am a newbie, shingling my tree-house siding, but had a friend who is a carpentry expert helping me. He has split shingles himself, from raw lumber. I had 4 bundles. At least 20% or more, of each of the first three, were plain, or flat- sawn, and useless as shingles for appearance's sake. The rest were quarter-sawn, and pretty nice. These are roofing shingles, so they are not pre-cut on the sides for parallel. For me that was fine. We used the bad shingles as a starter course and covered them with good singles. Then, I got to my 4th bundle. A good 80% were all not quarter-sawn, like a shingle should be. Useless. The folks at Bollinger in Cupertino were unsympathetic, even though they are advertised as #1 singles, which these are not. Since I did not have my "original" packaging, they would not refund my money since they were not in "sellable" condition. But there is no way to check the quality of them unless you unpackaged them. And...Who would want to sell that to a customer? Apparently, Home Depot wants to sell that junk back to you. I suggest you look very VERY carefully at the grain edges of both sides of a bundle before you walk away with them. They might be cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for here. A lumber yard would have backed up their product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst excuse for shingles ever, do not buy Most of the shingles in a bundle are not 16 inches, and most are not cut parallel, so you have to waste your installation time cutting at least one side of each shingle. Further, these are not split from vertical gain cedar, they are cut, on both sides, from sap wood, the grain as much as 1/2 inch wide or more. This makes them extremely weak, and probably won't last very long either. I installed half of one bundle, then took the rest back and went to a real lumberyard, where for $10 more per bundle, got perfect 18" shingles, good for 25 - 30 years. Like most of Home Depots plywood, these shingle are junk.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works for me High quality and tight grained, they are 16" for 5" to the weather...I don't know what that other "GUY" is talking about. If you are doing a small area I would seal both sides of shingles with deck and fence sealer to make them last even longer..
