I suppose it should be okay as it doesn't use much AC power (mainly for electronic controls).

You can put in a cross over valve at the furthest point from the water heater. This will open when the water gets cool and the recirculating pump in the unit will pull it through the cold water line back to the water heater. The question is, what is the balance between heating water that cools in pipes and waiting as you have been for the hot water to arrive. This valve costs about $75. When do you break even on water savings and time versus loss of efficiency? This unit keeps 3.1 gallons of water hot, so it does not take longer to get hot water where you need it, as is the case with many whole house tankless water heaters.

If you price out a similar Rinnai unit that has a recirculating pump built in you will find that the Rinnai unit is much more expensive. The recirculating pump has the advantage of giving you "instant" hot water when you want it and let me just say I put in this unit in my home about 1 month ago and its working great. I have the recirculating pump set for 6:30am - 8:00am mon - fri when my wife and I want instant hot water in the morning for showering. You turn on the faucet and the hot water is there. You don't have to wait for it to turn hot. Saves on water, gas and electric useage and you can program the recirculating pump to fit your lifestyle and useage.

Yes but consider where you will run the vent lines, the existing water heater's vent won't do.

Have had this Water Heater installed and running for a year now. We have had no issues with it. We are a family of 8 with; 3 1/2 bath, Washer machine, Dishwasher, and 6 sinks in our house. We can run the washer, dishwasher, sink, and shower with no issues in this unit keeping up. We have never lost hot water. **PLEASE READ** I installed this unit myself. I read over the entire manual probably 12 times before even taking this unit out of the box. There are a lot of details, instructions, and specifications you NEED to follow for this unit to work sufficiently. Don't go by knowledge just follow exactly what the instructions say and you will love this unit. Important notes are the intake and exhaust levels as well as proper room and temp where this unit is stored. There is maintenance that needs to be performed monthly and yearly. Make sure you do it.

Loving this water heater so far. I selected this one for two specific reasons that together set it ahead of the rest: 1) outdoor unit, 2) built-in recirculating pump. Though the MANUAL IS TERRIBLY WRITTEN for how to mount the unit, I am overall very pleased with the unit itself.

RUN FAR AND RUN FAST- DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!
I think long and hard before I make a review that is bad as I realize once it is out there it is out there forever. So, this review has been done with thought and not malice. I chose this brand because I felt Westinghouse had a good name and could be a trusted company; however, the savings of this unit and paying a plumber to install is NOT worth it! We bought this unit in June of 2018. Within a week it needed to be replaced. We had to pay for another installation of the second unit. Now, two and half years later, we are having to buy a new unit because of the failure of Westinghouse's customer service and tech support. We have been out of hot water for two weeks as of today because the manufacturer didn't do what it should have done from the beginning... send out the parts in a timely manner as they said they would. The hold times usually run 30-60 minutes. They have poor records and when my plumber called in today they said they had no records of a trouble ticket yet they sent parts out twice. Yet, they had the ticket this AM when I called to get the tracking number to find my parts. They kept telling the plumber that they don't send out parts and that is not how the handle warranty issues, but yet it was the way they handled it as they sent out parts twice. So, after $600 in charges, first $300 to trouble shoot and then second $300 to install the parts the manufacturer said would fix the problem, we are now having to buy a new one as we can't continue to spend money for a plumber to work with a lack luster customer service and tech support. I asked a manager to call me and never heard from one. Said they would overnight parts that were under warranty, but instead they sent them ground. Which took a week to get. I asked them to overnight another set to get them to us sooner, which they did, but they mailed them to the plumber's office rather than my home, which delayed the parts to be installed from Friday to Monday. It will cost you more up front, but you are much better off with going with a local plumber who has parts on their truck for the units they sell. I can't stress enough the tech support's failures in our dealings with them. DO NOT BUY!!!

I have had several leaks. When I was able to contact support that make you take lots of pictures to prove you didn't void the warranty. This last time they wanted me to take apart the the whole top of the combustion chamber to take pictures. It makes me sick that it cost so much and I have to replace it (with a different brand). No to this water heater No to Westinghouse products

Terrible unit , MASSIVE with multiple drawbacks. Don't do it.
What to know before you buy! 1. The unit is huge and heavy. Really closer to the size of tank rather than tankless. Most tankless units out there are maybe 9” to to even 12" deep. This thing is 18" deep making it not allowed to be installed in 3 foot side-yards as it blocks the passageway. 2. The manual states that this water MUST have a "combustion analysis What to know before you buy! 1. The unit is huge and heavy. Really closer to the size of a tank rather than tankless. Most tankless units out there are maybe 9 to to even 12" deep. This thing is 17" deep making it not allowed to be installed in 3 foot side-yards as it blocks the passageway. 2. The manual states that this water heater MUST have a "combustion analysis" performed by a qualified technician or there is no warranty? All the plumbers I talked to said they has never done that and DO NOT OWN a tool to do that ??? . Westinghouse tech support says to call a HVAC person instead and those guys told me that 1. they had never done that and 2. they do not work on water heaters. 3. The biggest problem is the noise and vibration from the built in TEMP mixing valve. After days of trying to figure out the noise that sounded like a foghorn or a vibrating phone that you could hear throughout the whole house, and after getting shipped a new one, and still no improvement in the noise, we had to take out the whole unit and return. According to Westinghouse, the noise is normal? 4. There IS no remote control pad to operate like the Rheem has so in order to do anything , you have to remove the front cover. 5. Tech support were dismissive and uninterested in helping to solve the problem with the noise. Had to take it out and return at a huge cost in labor to me. Purchased a Rheem at 9.5 GPM and 199,000 BTU and it is literally plug and play. In summary , the good The price at $1699 is good for a 92% plus unit with a recirc pump built in and with a 199,000 BTU 11 GPM. It is the cheapest out there with all these features. Also the unit does seem to be very well built with thick metal with lots of space on the inside should service need to be performed BUT the bad, The temp valve is noisy and that is a deal breaker, the unit is massive, the manual insists that a so called combustion analysis be performed meaning any DIY or it seems ALL plumbers can’t install and no remote control so you have to remove panel to even change the temp and terrible customer service.. HOME DEPOT WERE GREAT IN ALL OF THIS THOUGH AS USUAL.

A product is only as good as the company that stands behind it.
I bought mine in 2018. Installed it and it has worked well until earlier this week. I got an ERROR 45 which is a leak inside. I removed the four screws holding the cover in place. I found the leak at the joint where the 17 Hot Water Adapter and the 18 Hot Water Thermister meet. It looks like the o ring has blown out. The documentation showed the 2 o-rings in the diagram but failed to list them in the parts. The documentation on the website has the part number. My guess is this is a common o ring I can find at Home Depot but they dont list anything about it. So I have to wait for the part to arrive. The website has the part. They sell it for $9.20 each and you need two then shipping for $15.97. I assume there is something special about the o-ring for them to charge $9.20 each. I assume they are made of platinum or something. I'll know when it gets here. An o-ring should cost under a dollar. An o ring is small and flat. it can be dropped in a envelope and mailed for the cost of a stamp. This is extortion prices. They company knows a family cannot go without hot water and will pay the extortion prices to get the $1300.00 unit back working. This is way past fair market value or supply and demand. This is simply greed and as I said extortion. Westinghouse should be ashamed. This is no way to treat a customer and I will not buy there products again.
