Replaced an old traditional 40 gal. gas water heater with the Westinghouse hybrid. The install was a bit tricky with my limited space and clearance.
Got everything accomplished & passed inspection. On the first firing I was admiring how quiet & well it was operating when after just 10 minutes it shut off. I thought that something was wrong! Ran through all of the diagnostic levels---nothing! I was shocked to see that the hybrid water heater had heated the 53 F supply water to the 147 F cutoff temp. in just ten minutes . . . I could only call it amazing!
I found that reducing from hottest to the hot 127F setting worked best. Once it starts up, the water heater rarely runs at the full 100k BTU rate unless two extended showers are taken at the same time. This is something we could not even hope to do with the old 40 gal. water heater.
It's been a month now & we really like the Westinghouse hybrid WH. You get almost all of the benefits of a whole house instant WH with none of the instant WH bad habits. Looking forward to the energy tax credit and expect to see an on-going reduced utility bill. If this month is an indicator, the installed price difference should be covered by the savings in less than two years.

I've had this water heater for the past year and a half, it's worked as advertised. We've never run out of water with 2 showers running at once, in a house with 4 adults and 2 kids.
It will completely fill up my bath tub and there's still hot water coming out of the tap. I have a 70s house so our gas line wasn't large enough for a traditional tankless, but this one works just as good. And it doesn't require the yearly flushing (though I installed those connections anyway).
For install, be aware that you need to convert the exhaust for a condensing. In other words, I converted the Type B metal exhaust to PVC. I also had to add a condensate pump, which isn't difficult. I drain the condensate pump where the emergency relief valve drained, no extra plumbing was required.

DO NOT BE TEMPTED. DO NOT BUY.
I bought this unit during a home build based on specs and the promise of a good balance between tankless efficiency and always available hot water. It took several months to finish the build and get this unit online. I was really happy with it for about 13 months. Then the gas valve started flaking out and causing it to error on start. I’m an engineer so I looked at the manual and schematics and was able to determine that the gas valve solenoid is faulty.
We are a 3-person family and generally light water users. This is very light use for this unit. It’s an obviously poor quality or defective part.
After calling Westinghouse for warranty coverage I found out that this unit is manufactured by HTP. They seem to handle support for the unit. Support was friendly but completely declined to cover the failure in any way. Even when I pressed them on the obvious component defect. So now I have an expensive repair on a very expensive unit one year into service. Not acceptable, especially in this premium range.
Even worse, they won’t recommend a service provider and I have yet to find one. Two local companies, both dispatched by Home Depot, have declined to work on it. So, Home Depot, the seller, has completely failed to provide service and the company that makes it refuses to even help me find anyone to service it. I have purchased a replacement valve online (for an outrageous $200) and am now attempting to have a friend who is a licensed HVAC professional install it for me. If that doesn’t work I’ll have to install it myself, which I don’t want to do but I’m running out of options aside from simply removing it and replacing it altogether.
If the prospect of buying a $1700 water heater with faulty components, zero warranty or customer support, poor and expensive parts availability and no local plumber/technician support sounds appealing to you then this unit is perfect. If not then I’d suggest you stay clear of anything sold by Westinghouse or manufactured by HTP.

Unit failed at 3 years
Unit failed at 3.5 years. Water temperature mixing valve failed and ignitor was having problems too. Luckily it was covered by the Home Depot protection plan I had bought, and is being replaced and hope the new one does better. When it was working I actually liked the product.

Hot water heating is great but flow rate is 2.3 gallons a minute. So filling up a tub or using a shower with higher flow rates is a problem. I'm currently looking for a solution as we already installed water heater.

Best purchase ever?...
Yes, as far as a hot water heater, this 'hybrid' was exactly what I was looking for! Our water temperature in the Winter is between 38-42 degrees, so a reserve tank 100 btu is perfect for my application; expensive but worth it!...
