A:  Yes, matter of fact they come with the nipples. But you have to install them yourself. Dont remember if they where brass or stainless. Even had to install the supplied brass drain valve on the bottom.

A:  Having a Hot Water Heater fail... especially leak... or flood... is not a pleasant experience. Then one has to be without until they find a plumber... and pay a hefty installation fee. Because of the Stainless Steel Tank and Titanium components... this Heater has the potential to last a Long... Long time.

A:  Hi MJ, The comparative quality in this model I found to be unmatched against any other models. My previous water heater had a 6 year warranty, guess how long it lasted? For the price difference, (lifetime warranty), I value my time. If by chance you are a DYER like myself, water heater replacements are not at the top of my list of things to do. The Westinghouse heater has been doing a great job for me, especially in energy savings & longer retention of hot water. Just do your research, you will then understand why I made this choice. Good luck.

        by|Dec 7, 2019

A:  Just to add to my other answer. I would not pay more for the lifetime one since it is the same as the 6 year. You are just paying for a warranty like some other water heater brands do. I have not had great experiances with HTP. The company that makes these. Still recommended the water heaters and would be hard to find a better one. But the warranty has so many loopholes so close to worthless. First you have to register product and wait for a reply you must save. This has taken an average of 3 weeks for a reply. And other company's dont require you to worry about a reply. Next they changed so now only the tank has the lifetime warranty. Next has to be installed by a licensed plumber. I have installed at least 50 water heaters in my lifetime ( contractor but not a licensed plumber)and it is a simple process that would be hard to mess up so it damaged the heater. For anyone that does some home repair. I feel these two things are unreasonable and makes it look to me like they are going out of their way to have a reason to decline a claim if ever needed. But still not anyother I think is better. Have only been using the brand for 4 years so will wait and see. Also now it is hard to find some water heaters without some type of digital display on the longer warranty models. These you do not want. Used some over the past 15 years. It is just something else for marketing that will go out and triple the problems you can have Just to much heat for unneeded added electronics. The old simple standard systems are best. Like Rheem I think theirs lasted about 2 years before they had a recall on the digital display ones.

A:  So a 6 year warranty 40 gallon Rheem performance (#205810668) is $398.00 a 6 year warranty 40 gallon westinghouse (#300903227) is $478.00 The Rheem is not difference than anyother brand. They buy there tanks from the same manufactor in mexico I think it is. The westinghouse has a stainless steel tank. Benefits are well known since they dont rust and dont need an anode rod. And you will find plenty info on internet that tells you that replacing the rod after a few years will extend the life of the tank. So makes since not even needing one since no steel to rust would be better. The only one with a stainless tank . And with 100% stainless elements. Rheem no longer even sells one with stainless coating on the element part like they used to. With no rust no need to ever flush the tank like is recommended with others. With the stainless tank they are the only one that can offer a extended warranty for a lifetime warranty. You do pay for it with buying the same one at $763.00. Which is still much cheaper than the Lifetime Rheem model at $1079.00. And is a composite tank that has had some longterm problems.

2 defective water heaters in 2 years
Highly recommend you stay away from Westinghouse products and this water heater in particular. Bought this for a new build in April of 2018. We thought it was working great but stopped working about a year later and needed a bottom heating element replaced as it was no longer working. Westinghouse sent a replacement heating element, which worked for about 8 months and needed to be replaced again. Before the new water heater could even be delivered, it caught fire (December 2019). Defective water heater was replaced and not even 6 months later, the bottom element started leaking again. This time Westinghouse deemed it was best to refund us the money. Unfortunately, they are not part of Home Deports RMA program and do not refund directly to a customer. We went round and round for about 5 days, with zero help from Westinghouse, until the store manager at our home depot got approval to refund us the full amount.

Time will tell if this was a great purchase. Assuming a high grade alloy was used, there should be no question that a Stainless Steel tank should last many, many years. Also because of the Stainless Tank and the Titanium heating elements, there should be no oxidation (dielectrics) of the components. That means a sacrificial Anode Rod is not installed therefore, never needs attention and nothing to replace. So with a monthly or annual draining of the Tank (how often depends upon the mineral deposits in your area's water supply).... this tank could well last a 'Lifetime'.... keeping in mind the heating elements will eventually need replacing with another Titanium element. I adjusted the Upper Element to 120 degrees and the Lower Element to 125 degrees as I believe the Upper gets electricity first and when that Thermostat is satisfied... then the electricity switches to the Lower Element and finishes the heating process. This is a legitimate review... when it comes to purchases like this... I spend my time buying the best product/value I could find and hopefully my review is helpful and accurate. Check with me in 10 years to see if this tank is still working :)

Very nice quality throughout, includes brass drain valve and T/P release valve, brass heat traps and pipe insulation. Nicer to look at than most water heaters, looks more like an appliance. Hot water seems to hold out longer than the 50 gal water heater it replaced, so far we haven't run out of hot water even once. Very quiet, can't even tell when it is on. I would recommed this heater to anyone who wishes to spend some extra money on a quality unit.

I purchased this stainless steel water heater because I never wanted to replace this tank again. It sets in a very narrow closet (i.e. I had to take out the door jam to remove the old one and install this tank). The heater worked great for 13 months when the lower element failed (completely corroded). Until that failure the water heater worked great and there is NO heat loss. The insulation is great. Back to the element though. The manual clearly states the replacement element is the Westinghouse titanium variety, at nearly $50. I ordered and and installed this claimed "best in the industry element" and will let you know in a year how it is doing. My beef is that the element that came with the water heater that failed in 13 months is not the titanium model. I would have happily paid $100 more for the water heater to have the "best" element. I won't go so far as to say this is false marketing, but they cleverly made me believe I was getting all the best components in this water heater. Let the buyer beware.

Great looking water heater and quality is excellent. Really liked the lifetime tank warranty. Tank is made of steel not fiberglass like most. Came with a copper drain valve as well. Did a lot of research before I purchased this water heater and ratings were all positive.

Received undamaged. Installed all fittings with teflon tape and teflon based thread sealant real tight. (Stainless threads are notorious bad sealers). Pre-tested the heater for leaks, no problem. Easy instalation and works like a charm. No more anodes and off color and nasty smelling water and no more extra aluminum in my diet. Only couple of weeks old so I can't vouch for longevity but I do not forsee any problems other than replace elements. No fancy electronics to go bad.

I live in Las Vegas and got tired of replacing water heaters every 4 or 5 years from the tank corrosion hole thru and leaks also corrosion debris in all the faucets and showers. I got this stainless steel tank water heater on 10-16-2016, it took 2-1/2 weeks for truck shipment from the east coast and it was crated in a wooden 1 x 4 frame with a wooden pallet base. I installed and and the install was seamless, I also installed a seismic straps as my old house didn't have this. removing the old heater took more time (several hours) as the drain was plugged from debris of a deteriorating tank and lifting the old tank off its stand. The NEW Westinghouse water heater came with everything. The T and P valve and the drain valve tube. It does not look like the photo but it will work (It has a screw slot with a hose type thread connection. The opposite end has 3/4 pipe thread. The dielectric nipples also came with the new heater (Usually you have to buy new ones). I had to install the cold water dip tube into the heater. I also made a change and elected not to install the Westinghouse supplied drain and installed a lever type hose bib to allow a full 3/4 opening to allow a full drain opening. After the initial install I had to adjust the temperature settings for my hot water production. I use a thermometer and recorded my old faucet temps. I waited 24 hours until the tank stabilized and made my electrical adjustments in the thermostats both top and bottom. I have no regrets on this water heater. I did IMMEDIATELY register my warrantee on line as soon as I turned on the water into the heater so I can insure MY life time warantee. The web site could use improvement with clearer instructions as to type and model number installed. I experience no problems the tank was not damaged in shipment, I also placed a label on the water heater to show when I got it, installed date as well from Home Depot! At this time its still brand new. BUT I can say I will NOT miss cleaning my shower, sink and kitchen sink filter screens every week from debris on my old water heater! I do have a whole house filter installed that filters all water before the water heater and I also have a water softener on the whole house cold water supply. I know previous installers had their problems BUT I think they actually read the complaints and took care of all of them. I'm sure there will be some that may have problems, At least this deserves 5 STARS!!!

                    update on previous review
Everything in the previous review was and is true. However, after just three months, the upper thermostat fried. It shorted out from a previously unnoticed leak. Apparently, the hot and cold water nipples mounted into the top of the heater are often (because it has happened to many others) leaking. When I opened the thermostat area to see why the heater had stopped worked, it was absolutely sopping. The thermostat was fried, and the reset button had triggered and was also damaged. They sent replacement parts, and instructed me to have my plumber remove and retape the hot and cold water inlets, then send them a copy of the bill which will be availuated to see if they will reimburse. I must say, they are many other water heaters offered that are good, this one isn't worth the headaches.

Lifetime stainless steel is the way to go/upgrade!
Well packaged for the journey from factory to home. Easy access to electrical panel/ wires , but drain plug promised in instructions was not with unit. Had to purchase my own. Works great, is super quiet and never gets warm to the touch on the outside of the tank. Worth paying a little more for to get the lifetime warranty! Feel like I got what I paid for!
