I have installed two of these in the last few weeks (1 LP and 1 natural gas) and I am very impressed with this heater. Due to the length of the exhaust and intake pipes, the settings do need to be tweaked a little and you need a combustion analyzer to do that. After adjusting mine with the analyzer, it makes no noise and runs perfectly and no error messages. I also have recirculating pumps on both my heaters and they work together well. I am truly amazed at how quickly it heats water and I feel that a family of five (with a 50 gal. heater) would never have to worry about running out of hot water. I can't testify to the longevity because of the short time I've had mine, but other than that, I give it 5 stars in all areas. It took about 3/4 day for the first one and about 1/2 day for the second. I was legal to use local intake air and I used a 2 in. exhaust.Good instructions for the install and adjusting and a YouTube video by HTP (maker of the device). I read a review that said he ran 3 showers for a long time it kept up and actually turned off and on showing it had capacity to spare. You can find used combustion analyzers for about $250 or buy a new Fieldpiece new for $350. All said if you want capacity and stainless steel tank for longevity I highly recommend this water heater.

Purchased this unit to replace my two hot water heaters in parallel which delivered hot water domestic as well as radiant heating for my 2600 sq/ft home. Installed per Aurora, CO codes and was easy to connect and setup. I needed to run horizontal intake and exhaust for the closed venting which was quite easy and also run a condensate drain to the floor drain but with the tear out of the old and the installation of the new unit was 12 hours. Much of the time was re-locating plumbing lines since it is quite a bit shorter and also all connections are on top. Plugged the unit in and it heating from 52 degrees to 130 in just 16 minutes. Overall I am really impressed and would definitely recommend it to anyone whom needs lots of heat fast and high efficiency to go along. High altitude Note: You must check the fuel burn ratio and adjust this unit above 3000 feet. I live at 5280 feet so it needed to be leaned out to meet the spec's.

Not cheap, but installed easily and works perfectly. Time will tell how long it lasts, but so far, it exceeds my expectations. Very quiet and looks great.

Very Efficient but Manual Lacking
I purchased this water heater almost two years ago from HD and am very pleased with its performance as it is unbelievably efficient. The installation instructions are very detailed but leave out two important things causing me to deduct one star. One, it says “If for any reason the throttle needs to be adjusted it is very important that a COMBUSTION ANALYZER be used to ensure safe and proper operation”. While this is true, it should be noted that it is important to have a service tech with a combustion analyzer adjust the gas valve (throttle) when the water heater is first installed. With a high efficiency water heater like this, valve adjustment is very important and WILL vary with altitude, propane supply regulator pressure and intake and exhaust venting (length and number of elbows), etc. Therefore, even though the gas valve was likely adjusted at the factory when the water heater was manufactured, the factors listed above will be different with your installation causing inefficient combustion if not reset when installed. Two, HD states that no anode rod is needed. While it is true that stainless steel tanks do not require the sacrificial anode rod that glass-lined steel water heaters do, I found that hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg odor) developed as I have a private well with no chlorine added to the water as found in municipal water supplies. The solution was to install a powered anode specifically designed for stainless steel tanks. This seems to have resolved the issue.

I purchased this water heater six weeks ago, installed it myself and am very happy with it. I ordered it online and picked it up at my local Home Depot. It arrived a couple of days earlier than the date given when I ordered it. It is a heavy unit and comes in a very sturdy wooden crate, so you will need a pickup truck or trailer to haul it home and some help setting it in place. Installation was straight forward and it fired right up as soon as I plugged it in and turned it on. You must specify which gas type (natural or propane) when you order it as it is not possible to convert it to another gas. For instance many water heaters come equipped for natural gas but one can purchase a kit to convert it to propane, but not with this unit. Mine is propane and works flawlessly. I was a little concerned as one reviewer mentioned the need to have a service tech with a combustion meter adjust the unit to get it to run correctly, but that was not the case with my installation. The heater runs very quietly and recovers quickly to the 125 degree set-point even in the eco mode. The installation manual is very detailed and helpful. You can download it at the Home Depot website which I did before I purchased it to determine whether or not I would be able to do the install myself. The tank is very well insulated. I turned it off for two days when I was out of town and the water temperature was still 75 degrees when I returned. The initial cost is about twice what a power vent unit costs, but with the stainless steel tank (long life expectancy) and low fuel consumption, I expect to recover the cost in about 4 years. In summary, this is a high quality, very efficient water heater and I am very pleased with it so far.

Hoping the stainless steel construction will make this a reliable long lasting unit. We needed a higher capacity for our bigger family and no complaints as of yet. The outside of the tank is good looking and the LCD display is impressive.
