I bought this to replace a broken ceiling light globe and think it’s a bit large for a wall sconce. If the orientation of the globe would be vertical, there would need to be enough clearance from the wall.

Yes, this could be used as a pendant. But you're asking to basically make a new pendant. Fitters can't be swapped without taking apart a fixture entirely. You should look for glass that will work with what you have or get a new pendant.

you need to measure the fitter. A fitter is what physically holds the glass.

When an accidental collision with a kitchen chandelier shattered a part of it, I expected to have to replace the whole thing. It was a surprise to discover that my local Home Depot had the exact matching part- this white globe. It fits seamlessly, and the fact that it's a replacement is undetectable. 2 hours after the original had shattered to bits, the fixture was good as new!
