Questions & Answers

Can I use a full sysnthetic 5W-30 Mobil1 (Car engine motor oil). Oil that came with generator is 10 w 30 and designed for 4 cycle engine.

Also, where can I get a gasoline without ethanol?
Asked by: OOTRA
I would recommend using a non synthetic oil for the first 30 hours of operation before switching to a full synthetic. The mfg also recommends breaking in the generator for 30 hours before placing full load draws on the generator. They also recommend changing out the provided oil after 20 hours of use. I changed mine out after 10 hours to a non synthetic. After 30 hours I will consider a full synthetic. Hope this helps... We have several options for non ethanol fuel where I live. All are premium non ethanol fuel. We have Cenex stores that carry it and some Conoco stations. That is a good choice, that is what I use on all my small engines..

Page 21, of the operation manual, item 4 says that the 120/240-Volt, 30-Amp Twist Lock Outlet (NEMA 14-30R): Outlet can supply either 120V or 240V output. How does one select 120v or 240v and what protection is there to prevent the wrong voltage from being used?
Asked by: David
It would depend on the cord that you purchase to connect to the generator. I have a cord that connects to the 30 amp plug that has 120v receptacles on the other end. 240 volt output is really 2 separate 120v legs. This means that the 30 amp plug has 4 prongs 2 with 120v, one with neutral and one ground.

Is it possible to switch to propane fuel? What is the cost? Can it be made to run both propane and gasoline?

Asked by: racyt
To switch to propane fuel, you would need to change so many components (if they are even available) that it would be more cost effective to sell your generator and buy one that was specifically designed to run on both propane and gasoline.

7,500-Watt Gasoline Powered Electric Start Portable Generator with Battery is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 237.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dependable Bought this generator last year after Hurricane Mathew. This year when Irma came for visit was the first time to pull out old dependable. This item had never been started in over a year since purchasing. When the power went out I had it ready and it fired up with electric start on first crank. We have now been without power for 5 days. We have it wired to panel and can run just about the whole house including well for water. Thinking of getting another. Would not hesitate to purchase another Westinghouse generator.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleased so far.....easy to start.... Bought this following Hurricane Matthew last year....and haven't had a need to put under a full load. Electric start has not worked the times I've tried it, but the pull start was not too stiff and started the engine within 3 pulls. Looking at charge level on the included battery to remedy electric start. Only gets four stars because of a small fuel leak above the fuel line valve where it connects to the fuel tank.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dead on arrival No spark wouldn't start. Customer service no available after hours or weekends. Not to mention getting a generator repaired in time two days before a hurricane is impossible.

It was easy to set up wheels and hand grips. I filled it with provided oil and gas. It started and ran noticable more quiet then my older genrac. The battery came charged and the gen start with a quick push of the start button. The reason I bought this unit was i wanted to have electric start and was hoping for some a little quieter then my older generator. Im glad i bought this model . Its set up in my shed and feeds into its own 12 breaker panel im ready for a blizzard and not worried about trying to pull start it during a storm in the dark when its 20 something degrees out.
