What is the yearly energy use of this model (WEC080C2X045) and WEC080C2X055?

Asked by consideringtoinstall October 31, 2020

Answer

This unit takes regular heating elements so energy usage depends on water usage .if your buying this unit its because or craftsmanship, its large and all stainless . its a well built unit . Where I live the water is hard will eat through regular water heaters in 5 yrs . It fits my needs , if your largest concern is energy go tankless. but if your water is hard tankless wont last long either. its a great unit just make sure you have the room .

Would this be a good unit for radiant floor heating and will the warranty cover it with this use?

Asked by Carol September 24, 2020

This unit is for domestic hot water use. Radiant heat uses a boiler like you would for baseboard hot water heating systems. This unit is not intended for what you are asking for, which requires a room thermostat to adjust the heat level like you would with heat in the house

Check with local building codes. It absorbs thermal expansion as the water heats. Relieves the pressure off the tank and pipes.

We purchased this unit 2.5 years ago; was great for the FIRST YEAR
For the first year or two, this was a great unit, then we started experiencing times that the water wasn't hot, but it was sporadic. Two weeks ago we were totally without hot water. We ended up having to replace 2 thermostats and 2 heating elements! The heating elements were pitted and full of holes. Our plumber said that he had never seen a hot water heater less than 3 years old have heating elements in such poor condition; he felt that the elements had to be sub-standard in the first place to not last even 3 years. Westinghouse told us that the warranty on parts ends at 1 year - in spite of the "lifetime" wording in the overall description of the unit - the only part that is guaranteed to last 10 years is the tank itself. I was extremely disappointed that Westinghouse products have slipped to this degree of substandard quality and that their customer service is unable/unwilling to assist any more than they were. This experience has made me determined not to purchase anything from Westinghouse again.

Install was easy. Buy a pan for bottom of water heater - glad I did. 2 years and 1 month after install, there was a leak at the top electric element, where water was eating away the metal. There were no wires touching the metal, but that's what is looks like. Cheap parts. Removed the bottom element, and same thing was happening, so I needed to order 2 new elements. I called Westinghouse and they said since the unit warranty was never registered, parts are only guaranteed for 6 months - not sure how a company can only offer a 6 month guarantee on a $1,000 water heater? We have acidic water, however the neutralizer is well maintained.

Our water tanks usually last 5 years or so. Wanted to get water tank that lasted longer. Figured a stainless steel water tank would last longer. Terrible tank so far. First one lasted 6 months. Rust was leaking out of bottom. Customer service was great and they send us another hot water tank. Had this one professionally installed too. The next one started leaking at 6 months too. Costumer service was great again and sent us another water heater. We are on well water with water conditioner. Had water tested and it is fine. The base of the bottom thermostat had rusted out. Installed the third hot water tank. Praying this one will be a good one. Lifetime warranty is no good I’d keeps leaking.

Bought this in February from Home Depot, this is only July and both heating elements went bad. They say they don’t need anode rods in these,I disagree. I’ve read other reviews that have the same problem.Replaced both elements and thermostat just to be safe.Have not contacted Home Depot or Westinghouse with issues because I installed it myself.I don’t want to go through the hassle of the telling me I should of had a licensed plumber do the work but I work in a electric utility for over 20 years and replacing a water heater isn’t brain surgery. We will see what happens in the next few months with this heater.Right now it is no stars.

started leaking and bottom element burned up, literally, within 9 weeks of installation. Home Depot passes the buck to Westinghouse, who won't do a thing since home owner installed (not licensed plumber). Ironic though, since purchased at a store that markets to home owner. No accountability.

This water heater appears to be of high quality manufacture, and installation was not difficult. The instruction manual is comprehensive, easy to follow, and it comes with parts needed to connect to existing plumbing (except for hot/cold flex lines). Due to the height of this heater, I relocated it to our basement requiring plumbing and electrical modifications. Even so, we had hot water restored in about 4 hours doing all work ourselves. At 115 gallons there has been zero issues with ample hot water supply, something we did experience with the 50 gallon unit this replaced. It's factory set around 125 degrees which we increased to 135 to meet dishwasher needs. The heater is well insulated as the housing remains close to room ambient temperature in operation. Being made of stainless steel, there is no sacrificial anode rod to periodically replace. However, this does make it important to follow the maintenance instructions which call for monthly draining of a few quarts of water to remove sediment. Therefore, I recommend installation in an area that accommodates easy access to the drain valve. Our heater has only been in service for a month, but we're very satisfied customers so far. Packaging of the heater is a negative. It arrived at Home Depot in a flimsy plastic-wrapped open crate with a square wood top and bottom with virtually no protection against dents. One of the thin wood corner braces was broken and it did have a few dents in the housing, small but noticeable. It needs to be shipped in a sturdy cardboard box to prevent damage from handling. To summarize: positives are design and quality construction, stainless steel tank, large capacity, and ease of installation (even though it is heavy); a negative is the poor shipping container. Overall, I highly recommend this heater.

Talk about never running out of hot water! Baby we can fill a pool with water hot enough to cook lobsters. One thing that really drew us to this was the fact it has no anode rods. The water chemistry we have caused our water to react with anode rods and make the water stink. We eventually took the rods out of out old tank...it lasted 17 years without the anode rods...This tank doesn't have that issue to start with so I was hoping that the sulfur smell would just stay away, and it has. We've had it now about 3 months and no issues. It's a a big tank, no doubt but it's more tall than bigger around so it's height that you have to deal with. There's nothing special this tank needs to work over a 40 gallon tank. I believe it recovers fast enough that I could leave the bathtub faucet running and it would never run out of hit water.
