i am replacing an existing over the range unit of conventional size (16x17x30) which has a rear r...
Asked by stuart April 8, 2021I replaced a 20+ year old existing Nutone range hood, that was vented through the wall, with the Whirlpool low profile microwave / hood combo unit in 2019. The position of the Whirlpool unit's rear mounted rectangular vent duct perfectly aligned with the the existing through the wall rectangular duct and exterior wall vent from the old Nutone range hood. Based on that experience, I do believe the Whirlpool unit does conform with whatever standard(s) that might exist for range hood rear vent positioning. However, that does not guarantee that your existing standard sized over the range microwave's rear vent is positioned in the same standard position. I've attached a copy of the Whirlpool unit's rear vent dimensions and position that was copied from the Whirlpool installation instructions. Compare this Info to the measured position of your existing unit's rear wall vent to confirm that it matches. I do not know the difference between the 3 model numbers you listed, however, I do have the WML75011HZ-2 model, which was made in 2018. Its rear vent location perfectly matched the position of the rear vent on a previously installed 20+ year old range hood which leads me to believe that it is in a "standard" position. Per the Installation instructions If no wall studs exist within the cabinet opening, do not install the microwave oven. We can not recommend you install the Microwave with only the wood paneling.
