What is the difference between "electrical ignition" and "continuous spark ignition"?

Asked by slider October 4, 2020
1
Answer

Hi Slider, They are referring to the same thing. The burners use electrical ignition by generating a continuous spark - which in-turn ignites the gas emitting from the burner and creates the flame. Hope that helps. Travis

I think the stove and oven are both great. Mine came with a griddle of sorts that goes over the oval burner. I cant find a word about it anywhere. Im not sure what i would use it for other than pancakes! I included a picture

Customer review from whirlpool.com logo
The "motherboard" went out in this oven after 3 weeks of use. An hourglass suddenly appeared on the screen in the middle of baking my dinner, and it simply not go away. The screen and oven were frozen. Needless to say, I was very upset. It was covered under the warranty and the new part was installed by our local appliance dealer. This oven has great features, and it's very nice looking, but it worries me that there's so much that can go wrong with the electronics. One thing I didn't realize is there doesn't seem to be a very hot self-cleaning cycle with this oven -- only the AquaLift® Self Clean, which is an absolute joke. It does NOT work to remove heavy build-up in the oven. Only time will tell if this range lasts as long as our previous Maytag gas range. It was 21 years old when the oven finally went out. Pros The pluses would be the stove-top burners are excellent – if not to big – but really do the job. They did not skimp on providing heat to the burners. The 5th burner on top has a grate – flattop for grilling/pancakes – can’t wait to try out on the grand-kids. The panel for changing the oven features is on the top of the stove easy to use and out of the reach of small children. The panel is straight forward – easy to use – just like a regular oven display. Has all of the same features as a regular oven. Has bake, broil, convection bake, convection broil, convection roast, keep warm. Has temperature calibration in case the oven gets out of adjustment over time (I thought this was a good feature since ovens can get out of adjustment over time). Also has assisted cooking much like a microwave has selections for popcorn and other quick meals, the stove has multiple selections for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the bake and convection bake settings. Cons This part of the review is similar to TMAC14 – the stove panel clock changes time for no reason. I called Home Depot and asked for support and they gave me a phone number for support for Whirlpool. The technician gave me two options reset the clock, I had done that and rest the breaker (really). That was the extent of their technical support. This could be due to heat as it seems to change when using both the oven and stove-top. Not sure what to do now. The lower drawer is too small – but I can see additional space has been used to add to the oven area. So, in my case I simply added an additional storage area for the pans and this solved the storage issue. I would buy the stove again, and recommend to a friend.

This is a really beautiful stove. It's almost everything I wanted in a range design: - Continuous grates - 5th burner with removable griddle (included) - Slide-in that sits nearly flush with the wall, creating a high-end look - Knobs on the front face (instead fo top) that aren’t huge - Sleek display with lock feature for easy cleaning (yes, this exists! There are other reviews that complain about not having this feature, but they must not have read their manual...) - Optional convection cooking That said, there are a few “ticks” that kept this form being a 5-star review: - The display randomly blinks every so often. I can't quite pin-point it, but I'm hoping its not a sign of electronic failure down the road... - The two largest and hottest burners are in the front. This just doesn't make sense to me. It essentially means large pots need to be in the front and you have to reach over them to get to the small pots, kind of a precarious design flaw. - Not impressed with the convection feature (maybe it's just me?). Yes, the cooking time was shorter, but it did not provide the crispy edges like traditional baking. - Tiniest little storage drawer I've ever seen. Good for storing the removable griddle and that's about it. Also, I have not connected the wifi feature and don't have any plans to - it's just not something I think I'll use in my cooking routine. Plus, all the stories about smart devices getting hacked recently, I just don't need that hassle :P Overall, I high-end looking appliance at a reasonable price (got mine on Black Friday, so it was a good price for me at least, may be higher now).

Nice oven!
Customer review from whirlpool.com logo
I'm happy with this oven. It cooks well, is functional, and looks beautiful in our kitchen. One thing I have noticed is that the glass surface where the display is can get dirty from dust and finger prints very quickly. I find myself cleaning it almost twice daily- which is fine with me,, however when cleaning it, and wiping over the touch screen, the screen reacts and turns on. After several swipes, the oven can get confused since it's assuming you want to perform a task (like turn on the oven), but then you press the "off" button to shut it down. Not sure if this sporadic on/off cycle will cause a problem with the OS after doing it daily for years, but I guess we'll find out. Would be nice to have a "clean" switch that would temporarily shut down the touch screen for a minute or two so it can be cleaned. I also have noticed that the clock will all of a sudden show the incorrect time and you have to go back into the clock/time setup menu and reprogram it. Not sure what is causing that, but I'm certain it's not related to any power failure. The grates are very porous, so if/when cleaning them with a sponge or towel, fibers get trapped on them - which looks unsightly. I'm tempted to take some sand paper to them to see if they can be smoothed out a bit. Hard to describe, but when placing a small pan (like an 6" sauce pan) on one of the burners, the design of some of the grates do not extend far enough to cover a good amount of resting surface for the pan, so the pan has a tendency to tip over unless it's positioned just so. Not good. Then, when it *is* positioned to prevent the tipping, it's no longer even with the burner's flames - which can create uneven cooking. The cooking timer volume is rather low when cooking is complete. I have it set to the maximum volume level. Other than these things, we love this oven. We don't use the auto or wifi features that much since we don't bake/cook a lot of frozen prepackaged meals. Only fresh foods. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Very nice range
Customer review from whirlpool.com logo
I have been using this range/oven for a few weeks now and am very impressed. The app features are so easy to use and very convenient. Baked my first batch of cookies after the initial heat up to burn off the “NEW” and they turned out better than the old oven could bake. This is a very impressive unit and I will enjoy cooking in it as I already have. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Some Things to Consider
Customer review from whirlpool.com logo
This range is beautiful and may do well over time. I've had this for just a few weeks. I’m not an excellent cook, so I’m still getting used to all of its features. I’m somewhat pleased with the purchase. Some of the negatives that I’ve encountered are: 1. The grates: a. I miss the 4 separate grates of my old stove. If you have any hand ailments, it’s difficult to hold up the grate while wiping underneath. b. When I use a small pan on the small back burners, the pan wobbles. This is due to the spacing on the grate. It’s too wide to let the small pans sit stable. 2. The Touchscreen a. I didn’t think about the danger of having the touchscreen face upwards rather than to face the front. I see a small nick in my screen. I don’t know how it happened, but it seems it can be damaged if a pan or utensil is accidentally dropped or set too heavily on it. Not something I would do intentionally, but accidents do happen. b. It’s very sensitive, which is good and bad. Something as simple as spraying cleaner on this panel, the force of the spray will trigger the controls. 3. Scan and Cook a. Not all foods qualify. Where is the list of foods that work with Scan and Cook? b. Once the settings are ready, I still have to walk to the stove to push start. If I pick up a food product at the store, I’d like to be able to scan it right then so that the oven will be ready when I get home. 4. Cook Timer – if I set the timer, it begins counting down right away. This will include the time it takes to preheat, which shortens the cook time. I’ve found that I need to wait until the oven is ready before setting the cook time.
