Front Control Built-in Tall Tub Dishwasher in Monochromatic Stainless Steel with 1-Hour Wash Cycle, 55 dBA is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 7788.

It replaced a Whirlpool that did just fine with our dishwasher loading practices, detergent brand. and water heater settings ... I was surprised and disappointed with this appliance's performance. To be blunt, it does not reliably get dishes clean, even with heavy cycle, extra hot wash, sanitizing rinse, rinse agent set to maximum, and running the water at the faucet until it is hot. Between having to prewash instead of just scraping off the food, rewashing about 10% of any load, setting the water heater higher, and having to use the high-energy features to even get a 90% clean load, this is not saving any energy at all. PROOF: The attached photo is of a refrigerator container that had held roasted onions and potatoes. It was dirty side down, not dried out, nothing blocking it, facing the upper spray arm, and stayed dirty through the "heavy" wash cycle.

All else being equal, technique makes all the difference. The first 3 photos show how I loaded the dishwasher with two meals' worth of dishes for my wife and me. Details are in the captions. Normal cycle, High Temp and Heat Dry options, 1 scoop of Bubble Bandit detergent (Google it) in the main wash chamber. Didn't purge the hot water line. The last photo shows the result of a torture test. A workman's mug crusted with coffee and almond milk residue was deliberately placed in the right rear corner of the top rack farthest from the reach of the wash arm. Aside from color balancing the images in GIMP, they are otherwise unaltered. Load it right, feed it right, and it'll treat you and your dishes right.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Dish Washer. Cleans well, and is very quiet. Be warned if replacing an older dish washer. This is a high efficiency, HE, dish washer not high performance. In other words, it doesn't dry the dishes the same way as older models. We called Whirlpool after a week, and a service technician came out. We thought the heating element was broken. Our old unit would sizzle if water was dropped on it when drying. The service technician said to me: "here, feel this". The heating element gets warm but not sizzling hot like older units. New units are HE, with plastic tubs instead of steel or ceramic. The tub would melt and it would not be energy efficient if designed like older units. Ours didn't dry dishes until the service technician told me about the sterile rinse option. That uses the heating element during rinsing, which raises the temperature and evaporates the water during drying. In other words, the dishes dry themselves during the dry cycle, not the heating element. FYI before calling in a service technician.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful Dishwasher With One Flaw Our previous dishwasher gave out on us, and I am just not a fan of handwashing dishes. My husband found this dishwasher at Lowes. It was easy for him to install. What I like about this dishwasher is how quiet it is as well as how clean our dishes are after we run them through. Our previous dishwasher would clean the dishes... but this dishwasher really cleans the dishes. Just the other day, I put a dirty meatloaf pan in the dishwasher because I wanted to see how it clean it would get - and it got incredibly clean. In regards to noise, the first time we ran the dishwasher we opened it after a few minutes because we didn't think it was working. It was working and it's just that quiet! What I don't like about the dishwasher is the detergent compartment flap gets caught on the top rack when I'm opening the dishwasher. This design flaw is small, but I'm concerned that at some point it might break if someone opens the dishwasher with too much force. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to operate....looks great I replaced my non-working (non-Whirlpool) dishwasher with this model and found it easy to install and simple to operate. I like that it does not have a spray wand on the top, which prevents you from putting tall things on the top shelf, however, I have but two small complaints. The first one is that one of the retaining clips on the top rack broke after about two weeks of use....not a big deal, I put a wire tie on it temporarily and order a replacement on Repair Clinic.com, since I did not want to mess with the warranty process. The other (and this is not a knock on the dishwasher itself) but this model has the silverware rack on the door....not a bad idea, but it gets to be a pain in the neck when you load it, as you have to either take it off the door, load the silverware last or keep moving the bottom rack in and out to load the silverware. Other than that, this is a good dishwasher for the price. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cleans well, easy to install We replaced our original Whirlpool dishwasher after 20 years. This Whirlpool was highly rated in Consumer Reports - 81 out of 85 points as I recall. I like everything about this washer except for the silverware holder which can be mounted three ways. Pro's: Cleans well. Great value. Con: One really. The design of the unit allows for the silverware holder to mount in three ways: 1. On the door itself, so it lays flat when the dishwasher is open. 2. Outside the bottom rack, attached by two plastic parts. If hanging outside difficult to get at the bottom rack to pull on it and concerned tabs will break off it. 3. Inside the bottom rack. If inside the amount of usable rack space is significantly reduced. Hanging on the door itself is probably the best long term solution but again it is somewhat more difficult to access the silverware. Would have been far more intelligent design (IMHO) to have the silverware basket mounted along the parallel side of the lower rack. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This 520 model has the basics, only four cycles and very little ability to adjust the racks. We have only used it for a week but so far it seems to work fine. We find it quieter than the old unit. IMO the 8-page user's manual wastes paper describing cycle details while not telling one how to unlock to remove the filter or the details of how to set the controls. It refers to a more detailed user's guide, which seems not to exist. But one figures it out for oneself in due time. The quality seems fairly good to me for a basic model. The 1-hour wash works for us but we rinse dishes before putting them in. The heated dry function dries just as well as our old dishwasher did. Perhaps the one feature that we will miss is the food chopper. It depends on how often we have to clean the manual filter.

It should be a complete embarrassment to Home Depot to be selling such a poor quality product. First my order of a complete suite of Whirlpool products was back ordered for multiple months. Customer service at Whirlpool and their delivery company continues to be a nightmare! Then when the order was finally delivered this product did not function properly. The heated drying did not work from day one. After 4 wash cycles the "Normal" wash cycle stopped functioning. Then the "Heavy" was cycle worked for 1 wash cycle. Now after only having/utilizing the "brand new" dishwasher for less than 3 weeks the unit no longer functions. The blue light goes on for 30 seconds and then turns off; very expensive 30 second mini night light!!! Multiple emails to customer service unanswered, long wait times on hold and relatively unhelpful customer support when the call is finally answered. This is a complete and utter disappointment to a made in the USA product from my own home state.
