30-Pint Portable Dehumidifier, ENERGY STAR is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 141.

Trying to use the bucket is difficult and cumbersome - won't go back in unless you slam it shut. Timer doesn't work. Haven't had a month and was very disappointed. Will purchase something else going forward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Whytner 30 pint portable dehumidifier Excellent purchase. I could tell a major difference in a matter of 12 hours. The two speed fan option is nice, as the high setting is quite loud. I'd definitely recommend this product.

Quiet workhorse that pays for itself; use with a separate monitor for accurate humidity readings. The Whynter 30-pint dehumidifier tank is paying for itself by keeping my 1014 sq. ft. ranch house dry and mold-free in the humid South. The 12-pint tank has filled about every 12-18 hours inside my house from June through August. When used with my air conditioner, it can get the humidity into the mid-40s (see comments below). According to NC state code, some air from the interior of the house flows into my encapsulated crawlspace via a baffle in the duct system. This allows the crawlspace humidity to stay below 55% most of the time, so my HVAC company said it was optional to keep the Whynter inside the crawlspace. Be aware that the humidity reading on the Whynter will run lower than the true humidity throughout your house. In picture 1 where the Whynter is set at 30%, an AcuRite humidity monitor matches the device while on top of it (AcuRite temp higher due to heat generated by the Whynter). Pic 2 shows the AcuRite at the opposite side of the house 10 minutes later, where the true humidity is 48% and the temp is lower. Get a separate humidity monitor so you can fine-tune the settings to your regional climate. Don't remove the tank before it is full or it will temporarily leak a bit; it has never leaked when removed after completely filling. Be sure to vacuum the filter regularly as the instructions say. The filter picks up dust that can be a fire hazard if it is not removed. I was so happy with this reliable and high-value item that I bought one for my sister too. Would choose this brand again.

The reason it gets 2 stars is because it was easy to set up and performed adequately for 18 months, so that's something I guess. However, once it failed Whynter Customer Service was the worst customer service for an appliance I have ever encountered. They won't talk to you but will have someone take down some information wrongly and will then send you emails telling you to do tests that do not relate to your problem. Then after a week of back and forth where you get nowhere, you may ask if you can just buy the part (humidity sensor) that you know is not working. Then they email you and say buy it here but there are no instructions for installing in. At this point rather than try to repair it I will probably purchase another Frigidaire unit as my Frigidaire of approximately the same age is still working fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect product for our new house! We literally purchased this product (builder/family recommended getting a dehumidifier) the day we moved into our new 2300 finished sq foot house. We currently have this product sitting in my basement running non stop. Since we've turned it on our house has become instantly more comfortable. It's insane how a product this small can be so quiet and pull so much water/moisture out of the air. Huge benefit, it comes with a drain hose, most other products did not come with one. If you don't have a hose you are constantly having to drain the tank. For the money this is a great reliable product, I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with this product We live in the southeast and I bought this dehumidifier to keep the humidity in the house to a minimum now that it's summertime. We have been running it most of the day for several weeks and it works really well -- I empty it twice a day if it's running pretty much continuously, and it's nice to know all that water is no longer in the household air. It produces some heat around it but that is probably unavoidable for a machine that is working so hard. You can install (or uninstall) optional casters very easily which makes it easy to move around. The noise is not bothersome and I like that it is Energy Star qualified.

The manufacturer had me try a mechanical fix that essentially required me to take the facing off the unit. The correction did not work and they asked me to return the unit directly to Home Depot. I replaced the Whynter unit with one from a different manufacturer. This replacement unit is functioning perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have had this unit less than a month,so cannot... I have had this unit less than a month,so cannot speak to its longevity, but it is easily the quietest dehumidifier I've owned. It is running on low in a large sealed crawl space and keeping the humidity at a safe 55%,which is where i have it set. So far it's living up to its Consumer Reports rating
