Yes... these tear through metal roofing in 29, 26 and 24 gauges. Long handles give great leverage. Blade are tough and sharp.

can it cut 24ga. stainless steel sheet metal?

Answers

24 gauge stainless runs at 0.0235 inch (0.5969 mm) which is well within the cutting capacity of these. However, to answer your question properly we must consider the TYPE of stainless being cut. Martensitic steels can be very hard. Austenitic steel is not harden-able. The easy way to determine steel type is with a magnet. Place any magnet on the steel. If it is attracted, then the steel has Iron in it, and probably some other elements ( Carbon, Nickel ) that can make it hard and-or tough. These are not meant for cutting that type of steel. If the magnet is NOT attracted, then the steel is probably Austenitic, so these will cut that material easily with no damage.

It's good to cut off roof shingles?

Answers

Although these can cut shingles, they're not the best tool for that job. The reason is, shingles are very abrasive and quickly dull or damage cutting tools. That's why a utility knife with disposable blades is much better for that purpose. It's also much easier to cut a long straight line with a knife and a straightedge... faster and cheaper too.

(What's this)
I didn't realize how big these are when I ordered them. They are BIG!!! They have a 3” cut length which gives you some idea of their size. I wish we would have known about these years ago when we put up vinyl siding on our house and metal roofing. The super sharp offset head would have made those jobs so much easier. The only modification we made was to loosen the screw a little so it would open and close easier. Other tan that, we are well pleased!

If you use the cutter for short 2-3 inch cuts they are fine. I needed to cut aluminum trim and it is necessary to force the tool to the right, the aluminum trim that is being cut rubs the pivot bolt in the tool (on the left side) causing the tool to cut to the left. I will grind the bolt and possibly the body of the cutter and fix the problem.
