Q:Would it do a better job if you submerge the lumber in the product

      Answer This Question

A:  I don’t think submerging the lumber is necessary.  It goes on real easy using a paint roller or brush.

      by|Jan 14, 2023

A:  yes it would. two hours or more will allow it to soak it up.

        by|Jan 13, 2023

A:  I’m sure it would be good to submerge the wood. I believe the instructions suggested to dip any wood that would be making contact with the ground. We laid our plywood siding flat and painted it with a heavy hand and allowed to dry.

A:  Happy to help, Rhet! Pre-treatment by dip method before installation is the recommended application method for Wolman CopperCoat Green Wood Preservative. Below is a link to the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) for CopperCoat, this includes complete application instructions. https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/6c/6c4778d3-b6fe-4468-944b-80c038ab71e7.pdf - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

A:  It can be brushed on the surface or end grain. Ends of boards can be soaked for about a minute. Weather pressure treated wood can be life extended by brushing on. For large jobs it’s better to buy pressure treated lumber, which is cheaper than using this on large projects..  It can also be brushed on damaged wood after loose rot is removed to extend wood life.

A:  Thanks for reaching out. Wolman CopperCoat Green Wood Preservative can only be applied to bare wood, it cannot be applied to wood that has been primed. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

A:  It’s made to go directly on the wood.  I believe it wouldn’t do anything on top of primer.

                  by|Jan 21, 2023

A:  Yeah you can however if you don’t treat the hollow section on the inside you’re not really going to get true weatherproofing otherwise it can pour out from the inside. Copper coating is basically the same treatment that you would put on pressure treated lumber however in the situation it’s not fully pressure-treated it’s only pressure-treated from the exterior but not from the interior so you’re taking a big risk doing this it would make more sense to buy a new pool but for argument sake yeah go ahead and treat it it’ll definitely be better than having on treated lumber on the exterior

                      Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help, Mary! If applying an oil-based primer, paint or stain over Rust-Oleum Wolman CopperCoat Wood Preservative, we recommend allowing it to dry for at least 24 hours. If wanting to use a water-based topcoat, you will need to wait at least 30 days to ensure full adhesion. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

                        Terrible color
Put on bottom of split rail fence post. I was under impression that it would be a faint color and would fade. It’s been 9 months and still looks terrible. It’s an ugly black against the natural cedar color. Am I supposed to paint the split rail? Ridiculous!

This stuff is potent! The case I received of four one gallon cans came with a convenient pourable spout mounted to the lid. While pouring out of a full can the flimsy bottom of the can "oil canned" causing a belch of the fluid all over my hand. Rinsed with water as directed but my finger tips were numbed for hours and my hand stunk. Wear chemical resistant gloves and eye protection when using this product. I think the bugs and rot spores are going to get a little numb as well if they get close to CopperCoat

                          Great product
I was able to use this product to coat/protect the bottom of my fence posts and it worked great. I used the dip method and thought it worked much better than painting it on. Highly recommend but use precaution when handling the product.

A longer life for exterior wood.
This product is one of the best wood preservatives I have ever used. I highly recommend Woodlife® for all applications where the wood may come in contact with the Earth. Unfortunately, you will have to order online as it is not a stock item and your local Home Depot. Where I want the project to look aged I mix 50/50 Woodlife® and black latex paint. When dry it will provide a weathered gray appearance and greatly extent the life of the wood. I have also done the same using red latex to offer a weathered redwood aspect. Application is easy using a brush, roller, airless spray or dip. Regardless I highly suggest that you use latex or rubber gloves. Cleanup is a breeze using soap and water.

Great for fence posts and wood fences.
I used to use old fir logs for fence posts untreated for a quick fence but after awhile they rotted at ground level. but I put up a fence around my garden using 7 foot lengths of Doug fir for post and braces and soaked in this stuff they not only look good and rustic but they're still holding up strong even the partly rotted brace. It's good stuff, but the smell stays with you awhile. I'd suggest wearing gloves and coveralls when using it.

                          They nearly tripled the price
Yes, between spring and fall of 2022 they jacked up the price for 5gal from $108 or something to $280 Come on, that's just greedy. It was a fine product but it's not worth being price gauged. Copper napthanate is an old product, not proprietary, I'd suggest finding a different company and retailer.
