I prefer these mechanical outlet timers over the electrical ones because they are easier to program and adjust. There is a dial where you turn the arrow to point to the current time. Along the outside of the dial is a circle of little popup pegs where you can indicate the on/off times of the item you want to plug in. It is very easy to adjust and you can even have whatever you plug in turn on and off multiple times throughout the day, if needed.
The shape of this timer is long with the timer dial off to the side. This is great for if you are using this behind a large piece of furniture, the timer dial on the item is a little easier to get to. This timer even has a little light that illuminates when plugged in. This one has a three prong grounded outlet so you can plug in nearly anything. It has a switch on the top of it where you can easily flip the outlet from "on" to "timer". It works great for lamps or holiday decorations.

Mechanical 24 hour plug timer
This is a mechanical (dial and pins) 24 hour plug-in outlet timer. It is “heavy duty” and appears to be rated for 15A, up to 1250W Tungsten lights. While it does have the mechanical dial that turns, it is quiet, and makes no sound. There are 96 on/off pins around the dial, so you can control the plug in 15 minute intervals as needed. It is simple to pull out or push in the pins around the dial to turn the plug on or off at the times desired. There is an easy to reach override switch on top of the timer that you can use to turn on the outlet to override the timer if necessary. It only requires one outlet in the wall, and provides one switched outlet. Because of its shape, when plugged in a dual outlet, the other outlet is not covered, and still available for use. I’m very pleased with this timer.

The Woods 24 hour heavy duty mechanical timer is a great addition for anyone wanting to program lights, or other electrical items, in their home. This timer had 96 "pins" (each pins controls 15 minutes of time) which allow an unlimited number of on/off cycles in a 24 hour period. Many people use timers when they are away from home, to give the impression someone is there. The advantage of this timer is that you can have your lights go on and off numerous times a day/night. The heavy duty grounded receptacle is nice if you are programming a small appliance. The timer is unusual in that it is designed to only cover one outlet. That is a real plus.

Reliable timing so far. The main advantages of this timer over others both by the same manufacturer and different brands are the available grounded outlet (a lot of indoor timers only allow two-prong plugs) and the offset round timing dial which is extended off to the side to allow access to the other wall socket. The timer is analog and quick to set by simply rotating the dial to the current time. Each hour on the timer has 4 pins to set 15 minute intervals as either on or off. As many on/off cycles can be done per day as you would like. The interrupter switch on the top bypasses the timing function to a constant on so that you don't need to unplug it when the timer isn't needed. When power is on through the plug a front LED is lit. Good timer to have.

Got this timer to use for some Halloween decorations in the house. It functions like most household timers that we're all used to, push down the tabs for the times you want the timer on, and leave up for the times you want off. But the best part is they finally got the design right, it only takes up the space of one outlet leaving the other one free for something else. It's also a grounded timer so it can handle heavier loads than just a small light.

I just love my new Woods 24 Hour Heavy Duty Indoor Plug-In Grounded Outlet Mechanical Timer, White. It lets me set all of my necessary lights in 15- minute increments, instead of the older 30-minute increments, giving a more realistic appearance of someone being home while you’re away, thus adding to your security! I found that the instructions were written for the older 30-minute increments, but that was easy enough to figure out and correct. It has an LED light to let you know it’s working, and its unique design gives you access to the bottom outlet while using the timer. I highly recommend this product.

This is a very good timer with a nice design to where it helps to keep one outlet free. You are able to set your lights to operated in intervals of 15 minutes. I am using mine upstairs to keep it cool during the summer using a fan to draw the air threw the room during the hot part of the day.. You can use this timer on Christmas decoration in your house just remember not to use this timer outside. Another nice feature with this timer it has a LED light to let you know this timer is on. This is very good timer and nice design. Very easy to use and good instructions to follow.

This Woods 24 hour heavy duty mechanical timer is fantastic. It had a 3 prong plug (with ground) to the outlet, but the connector to the unit itself is also a 3 prong. This will be great to use with an extension cord. It is a 24 hour timer with 96 pins for on/off settings. There is an override switch on the top and an indicator light. The unit is designed in a way that if you plug it into the top outlet, you can still use the bottom outlet, unlike some timers that are so large you can’t use the other outlet once the timer is plugged in. You can set this timer for multiple on/off during a 24 hour period and it repeats daily. It has a 1 year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Instructions come with the unit in English, French and Spanish. There is a support number with the instructions as well as the company’s website. The package is comes in is completely recyclable. It is made in China. This is going to come in handy year round and especially during the holidays.

We have backyard lights (Italian Cafe lights) that we run from spring to fall (and around Christmas). This time has the power handling to manage the two long runs. We placed the outlet in the shed so it's protected from the elements (this is not an outdoor unit as noted in the description). It can be timed in 1/2 increments and its simply a matter of pushing up the tabs for "on" and pushing down tabs for "off." It's a grounded outlet and there is a light to show when it is "on" which is helpful when setting it up. This would work great for a coffee maker or any grounded plug device.

I love this timer. The unique shape of it make it easy to still use both outlets without blocking one of them like a traditional box timer does. The dial is very easy to set. The outlet that you plug your item into is nicely off to one side making it a breeze to plug any shape plug into it. There is also a nice little LED light on the front to tell you when the power is on. I highly recommend this timer
