What is the significance of different size naps?
The longer the nap, the rougher/more porous the surface to be painted/coated is. Short nap of 3/16" or 3/8" is best for smooth surfaces, interior walls and flooring applications. A 3/4" nap is best for rough surfaces, like stucco, cement block walls, etc. The length of the nap also determines how much paint they pick up. A short nap will not hold as much paint as a longer nap but if you use a long nap on a smooth surface you could get stippling on the wall.
