I like the design, but after installing it, I found the handle form the outside does not return to its original position. If someone pushes the handle down, the handle stays down and I have to manually pull it back up to the normal position.

The Bayfield handle by Wright products is a sturdy and heavy-duty screen door handle. The finish is clean, smooth, and attractive with a high quality paint finish. The installation will require some small hand tools and a drill with both ½” & 5/16” metal cutting drill bits. This product was installed on a 1” thick door, but it is also made for heavier and sturdier doors. A few measurements, and a straight line were used to install this handle. If you are replacing a handle, as I did, note the you will most likely have to move the handle further from the frame than the existing handle. Be sure that the new handle will cover all the old holes. Very nice product, heavy-duty, nice finish.

It works so much better than the cheaper ones for ten. I spent about twenty dollars and it latches very well and looks wonderful too!

Wow ! This handle set is so ,so bad ! I had it for two years and now I know that I should have taken it back when it was sticking so bad it damaged the screw on the top and it actually broke inside which made it impossible to replace the screw.So,I used it like that with only one screw until two days ago when the part that the bottom screw was screwing into broke so now my storm door has no handle but I will never buy a Wright product again.

I have a Larson storm door that came with a similar cast zinc handle, in brass finish. I suspect the original handleset may also have been manufactured by Wright for Larson, due several similar design features. Unfortunately, on my original handle, there was a zinc casting that broke -- the part inside that attached to a coiled spring which returns the handle to a horizontal position. Oh well. The finish on the original was shot anyway, so it was time for a new one. I found this unit on the Home Depot website, and headed down to my local HD for a quick eyeballing. It appeared it would fit the bill well, and I would not have to drill any additional holes. My old unit also had an interior deadbolt, but I never used the outside keyset for that anyway, and this unit's extended plate covered the keyset old holes nicely. I mixed my parts, retaining the old interior plate and deadbolt with the external new handle, and new interior paddle set. This allowed me to retain the deadbolt's functionality from the inside, while replacing everything else. On this Wright unit, the outside handle does not contain the position-return coil-spring mechanism as the original did. Instead, it is housed inside the interior paddle mechanism. At first assembly, when I tightened the screws, return function of the outside handle was a bit "muddy" and didn't always bring the exterior handle 100% back to its starting position. However, after uninstalling it and judiciously applying a little spray silicone -- be careful to avoid the screw threads if you do this -- the handle rotated a lot more freely, and I was able to gain much better functioning. It's also possible to install the handle in a vertical position, if you like the look of that, and allow gravity to assist with returning the handle to its starting position. Color was not a factor for me, so this one being white was OK to replace my old brass unit. Other than a. slight adjustment to the door jamb strike plate, I was good to go. On the whole, this handle set is a reasonable value at $25, and being available in stock at my local HD was very convenient. It was definitely a LOT easier than ordering a handle from Larson -- and Larson no longer offered an exact-match replacement anyway, just one that I was told "should fit OK." Time will tell if the mechanism or finish on this Wright replacement unit lasts any longer than the original handleset, but at $25 and an easy installation, I can live with that.

The handle doesn’t rotate and sticks often. The installer had to drill new holes into the door frame to install.
